This was mine and my now ex husbands song.. still adore it. Saw the band many a time back in the 90's... bouncing with the crowd, singing my head off.. those were the days! :O)
Have to say though, Neil Young is still the master when it comes to "Hurricane"
Neil Young is superb.. but Wayne's voice still makes me melt. This way my ex husbands and I's song.. and whilst he is long gone (thankfully!) The Mission will always have a place in my heart :)
I am so happy that I was on their concert in Belgrade 25 years ago. I am 44 now,and still love it.I used to sing this song every time in my company, when I was drunk...once upon I saw you on a crowdy, hazy bar, dancing on thelite from star to star...
im american, and havent really enjoyed an american band in a LONG time (except for a couple metal bands over the years)! my favorites from the past 15 years are/were from the UK. however, there are great bands from the US- they just cant get an audience now that commercial radio here is exclusively pre-programmed crap. you have to listen to a weekly "new music" radio show, or stumble upon such bands accidentally on youtube to find bands. (great video by the way).
@dragannov : it was in 1990, if my memory serves me well, it was end of October. Great gig. In 2 weeks saw Sisters of Mercy and Mission. Mission show was much better, I have to say.
@dragannov far accross the moonbeam, I knew just who you are, I saw your brown eyes turn and watch the fire- You are like a hurricane, there's calm in your eye, And I am gettin' blown away, somewhere safer where the feelings stay. I wanna love you but I'm gettin' blown away----...
I love The Mission and originally SOM. I have the greys anatomy tattood on my upper back (star with the head). I am 34 now but they saved my life when I was 14 and going through really tough times. I am here today because of the strength their music gave me.
Yes. This is one of, by my count and I'm before coffee - 11 covers they've done, total. There's 10 albums and a number of songs only put out on the b sides of singles. Just search Youtube for Mission UK, that will get you some.
What a great band .They do this classic better than anyone .

Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams walked out of The Sisters of Mercy around 1986 and formed The Mission soon after.

To be honest I like some American bands but UK bands like the Mission and the Cult are sheer class.
