  • hey dumb ass you aint sposed to puff your cheeks

  • @mrmartian1000 How long have you been playing trombone? I don't think you know how much power is required to make those low notes come out right.

  • @ZachCatastrophe51 honestly, I don't know who to side with. Both are true.

  • I think the Brown note is hidden in there somewhere...

  • is it just me or does it seem like the double slide set-up would start lengthening the instrument way too fast?

  • @abstractGBAM BBb is half the frequency of Bb, which means that it's produced by an instrument that is twice as long. Also, that the difference between positions is twice as long. As such, the positions are the same distance between one another on a double slide BBb trombone as they are on a single slide Bb trombone, while the bell section is twice as long and the various slide crooks add a a bit of length as well.

In short, no, it doesn't "lengthen the instrument way too fast".

  • wow u suck i can play trombone better and i havent even playd it 4 a year

  • @tazrockslikecool456

I'm betting you've never even seen a contrabass trombone, which is on a whole new difficulty level.

  • Is it odd that after hearing that lowest noteI think I soiled my pants

  • thats not music that just sounds like a fire alarm!

  • if you think thats low, look up contrabass saxophone. you might blow out your asshole.

  • You have to to play low notes on brass instruments

  • I thought ur not supposed 2 puff ur cheeks ( Im in band )

  • @NobleTeamLeader28 i guess some people just have to in order to play low notes like that. I almost have to puff my cheeks playing super low notes on my trombone. I play Tenor trombone by the way. :D

  • Just look at Dizzy Gillespie, his tone is fine. There are too many brass players who try to change anatomy to a one embouchure fits all approach which takes players back in their growth. Ego is usually the culprit.

  • 65 people suck at trombone.

  • amazing, but is another slide really necessary?

  • @coolguyhino92 It is actually one slide that wraps around twice, doubling the length of a normal slide, but maintaining more normal slide positions.

  • You can at least say excuse me.

On a serious note this is completely pointless.

  • @ExternalGod

The Instrument is not Completely Pointless. It's a key part of Verdi's Macbeth and Strauss's Alpine Symphony for example

  • 重そう・・・

    でも一回吹いてみたい!

  • wow! that is one cool instrument.

  • my pants r full of shit now :(

  • you dont puff your cheeks >.<

  • @trogdor1432544 When you are playing pedal notes, you have to puff your cheeks. All players know it's a bad habit, but when the range you're in is that low, puffing the cheeks is required

  • @Tuba408Bass

I play bass trombone, I never puff my cheeks, even when I'm in the lower register. If you go to college in music, you will learn that. Like me.... Therefore, puffing is not required, and is a bad and nasty habit that makes you sound like crap.

  • @nickgamer93 This is really dependent on each individual person. Not everyone's oral cavity is shaped like yours, nor their lips or face. That's great that you don't puff your cheeks, but for some a little bit of a puff is good, as long as they don't look like a blowfish.

  • @trogdor1432544 There's nothing wrong with puffing out your cheeks. Ben van dijk does it all the time. Look him up.

  • Not unconventional at all.

  • Few questions:

    1. Where in the world did you find that thing?

    2. How much was it?

    3. How many triggers does it have?

    4. What key is it in?

    5. What mouthpiece size/bore size is it?

    6. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being easy and 10 being hard, how hard is it to learn? Assuming a person already knows how to play a tenor trombone.

  • @Takanuva1110

1.You can find anything on the Internet these days, try Ferguson music or WWBW.

    2.6100-6300$

3.The horn has one valve which lowers it to FF

4.BBb (an octave below the Tenor/Bass trombone).

5.It takes tuba sized mouthpieces usually and the bore of the slide tubes is .547/.594/.602/.622 (quad bore).

6.For me it was somewhere between 6 and 7. and I play both bass trombone and tuba. The positions are the same as a tenor trombone but the embouchure and air support are very different.

  • Nice!!

    Hi I am a young Bahamian composer...This is just a link to a jazz chart i wrote...it features solo trombone...written solo.....youtube.com/watch?v=xxr7L1CHoz8

  • dude i shit everywhere on the computer on my mom the chair everywhere even my neck

  • wâhnsînn_gÈbt_mAl_béÌ_gô0glë:_geldeasy_ÉIn_vøll_kråss

  • sounds like a chainsaw. not musical at ALL. haha

  • On a 5gs?! Epic. That's one tiny ass mouthpiece.

  • 北欧で使用されていたタイプのものを参考に現代風に特注したのですか?

  • for the last bit i thought i was listening to the sound track from inception

  • @krazycid32 hahhahahahahahaha exactly!

  • I think he hit the brown note, too. Way to go, man! :-)

  • YEAH! GO TROMBONES! I have a trombone myself.

  • DONT PUFFFFFF CHEEKS what a noob...

  • @nickgamer93 literally

  • Sounds like shit

  • IMA FIREN MA BROWN NOTE. phhhf

  • ridiculous

  • Double slide all the way across the trombone! What does it mean?

  • that instrument makes me want to splooge my pants

  • was that even a playhouse?

  • I liked, very good, and the sound is perfect!

  • sounded like me on the toilet after that beany cheez burrito!!

  • The next time I'm constipated I'll have to remember to listen to this...

  • puffffsssss

  • wtf?!?!?

  • his ambishur is horrible.

  • @aidankrbe Your spelling is horrible.

  • I smell a troll

  • beans

  • WANT

  • why the 2 slides if you're gonna slide them both at the same time??

  • @SarbearK it makes the whole instrument larger. I take it you have never played band for a school? Cause when the director's teach you how to tune, they tell you that when you, say, pull out your mouthpiece on your sax, it makes a flat note, but if you push in, it makes a sharper note.

  • @SarbearK Actually the two slides are connected. It's just looped around to make the trombone longer and therefore to play lower. It's just one pipe that loops around again.

  • Man that was so boring I just want to hit myself. The reason I said that was because that A: It suck and B: Im BORD!

  • @rowdyruff12345

    He was just testing it....

  • @rowdyruff12345 ...why are you watching this then?

  • Puffing your cheeks doesn't matter once you get to a certain playing level. I've meet professionals who let their cheeks fill up, it makes reaching the lower notes a lot easier. I do it all the time and I've seen it done by the best of the best.

  • what make is that contrabass?

I've been looking for a double slide contrabass trombone,

  • dude me play trombone but me in 6 th grade man that cool

  • Hey, if you got any questions about the contra, i can help you out, but dont critise the instrument or the player. Its probly someone who has not played a contra before, thats why it sound bad. And questions shoot an email

  • I play the trombone, and HOLY!!!! this thing sounds more like a alto Tuba* to me, lol

    *Something that doesn't exist, lol

  • @Meltimedia2009 The alto tuba exists according to a simple Google search result from TubeNet.

  • @OliverKahnNr1 Never knew, great!! XD

  • @Meltimedia2009 its tuned to a b flat tuba

  • that made me dump in my pants

  • Too bad it sounded like explosive diarrhea

  • I think the instrument farted...

  • nahey ho bin so einsam jemand lust zu chattn oder so

  • you all try playing those pedal notes without your cheeks puffed out.

  • Your about to rip that trombone another hole...

  • lyder lide lort.

  • Comment removed

  • anyone who says you don't play brass with your cheeks puffed out, has never touched, let alone loved, a real contrabass brass instrument

  • @enclavevideo

very true. The only brass I can think of at the moment that isn't supposed to puff the cheeks is trumpet and french horn. A tight little embouchure they have.

  • @gerardwayissexy360 You're not "supposed" to puff on any brass instrument but it becomes difficult not to in the lower registers of low brass and even french horn. They way I see it is if it sounds good than it is good.

  • @enclavevideo thats not intierly true......i have friends and play contra when i can. They dont puff the cheeks. This is just for new people because they dont have the ability to relax there embosure without puffing there cheeks. You can play those notes without puff your cheeks on a contra

  • when ever you play a brass instrument you always have your cheeks sucked in

  • @hyperbob101 no, you never suck in...but you do keep them in and not allow them to blow out

  • @babtrombone well yeah not literally sucked in but wghat you said yeah that what i meant...

  • is this at Frankfurt's Messe?

  • I love the bass trombone. But I love the tuba more because that is my main instrument. I also play bass trombone. My point was that the tuba is not a useless instrument like it was said to be by superunderline. Why would I attack the bass trombone...my original comment was one of extreme praise of the Contrabass trombones' awesomeness. There is nothing better than an awesome low brass section of trombones, basstrombones and tuba playing controlled, loud and in tune. Nothing better.

  • Who do you think is heard the most, speaking bass-wise, in the finale of Ride of the Valkyries and the "summit" section of An Alpine Symphony? Answer: The bass and contrabass trombones (written for CB Tbn. in 12' F by Strauss).

Look up the Ride of the Valkyries video with the Mexican orchestra of Jalisco and the BPO excerpt of An Alpine Symphony. You will get my point very quickly.

  • i completely agree and im glad we resolved this(:

Im close friends with all members of my tuba section and as the Bass trombonist its necessary, as i am to bridge the gap between trombones and tubas so the sounds mesh beautifully.

  • Superunderline- I take great offense at what you said. There is no point you being there? Are you an idiot? The tuba is there BECAUSE of its differences. The tuba is like a huge french horn being conical. The tuba is a different kind of loud. I can rattle the walls and ceiling and crack pavement with my huge CC Hirsbrunner and the Bass Trombonist has to blow his ass out his horn just to be heard. You don't know what you're talking about. I'm a pro so I know.

  • Just because you were offended by his comment about tuba doesnt mean you have to attack the bass trombone. I dont have to "blow my ass out my horn" to be heard.

  • WOW! You RULE!!!!!

  • haha it's just one slide, it's wrapped around so that it can have enough tubing so it can go freakin low

  • I think he hit the brown note...or was that just me?

  • @DYINGDAZED I think i need to go to the bathroom!

  • @DYINGDAZED nope, he hit it, haha

  • @DYINGDAZED He hit a pedal tone B flat (6 ledger lines below the bass clef staff)

  • @MunkyRoCks777 thats pretty dang looooowwwwww

  • @DYINGDAZED no if he hit the brown note it would have been 2 octaves lower.

  • i dont like contrabass instruments

it seems like noone can play them so they sound good

  • The contrabassoon, tubas (contrabass sax), and contrabass clarinet are awesome, and you know it. :)

  • actually, tubax and contrabass sax are slightly different

  • Yeah.. I did some research on that a while ago.. embarrassing D:

But contrabass instruments are still kickass :)

  • Listen to Ben Van Dijk and his Contrabass trombone.

  • I played something like that in State Honor Band. Try a tuba mouthpiece. The double pedals come out super easy using a tuba mouthpiece. Also helps to round out the edge just a little. Take it from a professional tubist. I'd love to have a neat toy like that!

  • I know you made this comment an month ago but you freakin rock for making it! I've played trombone since middleschool and I love it.

  • where do u get this? how much is it?

  • too much!

  • ha it sounded like a farting dog or something

  • well man ur cheeks are puffy and it sounded like crap

  • looks like a cheap camera, so of course it sounds crappy

give me a cell phone with audio recording capabilities and I can make even Doug Yeo sound like a middle-schooler

  • Puffy cheeks.....

  • Sorry to all the thick headed people below, but you guys should here this instrument in harmony.

  • Bb contrabass trombone = Bb trombone x2 or "slide tuba". Meaning the length of tubing is 2x longer then a reg trombone. So your choice is have trombone thats 10ft tall or double coil to reduce the overall height and make easier to handle/play

  • I WANT TO PLAY ONE OF THOSE!!

  • did you happen to notice that the title says testing out a double slide contrabass trombone, not playing beautiful music on a contrabass trombone?

  • He is just confidently exploring his range on a new instrument...I don't see a problem with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And you've shown your disinterest by not buying one. If he want's to buy the instrument it's his choice. Who gives a rats ass if you don't like the way it sounds? It's not like you see thousands of double slide contra bass trombone players around? Hardly enough to raise world debt. Or maybe i missed the news reports where the increase of double slide contrabass trombone sales was leading us into a deep global recession.

  • You do realize that the only way for us to get out of the recession is by buying things... u dont go deeper into debt if the people of the country put money back into the economy... now we know someone here's a retard and you're part of the reason why we're so far in debt

  • i don't want to turn this into a political discussion, but, he is not the reason we are in debt... the country is so far in debt because of government spending. The only control we have over government spending is the fact that we can vote into office the people that spend that money... and the current president has already doubled the national debt. anyways, you are right, the only way to get out of the recession is by putting consumer money into the economy.

  • Man do you not think the sound is to do the with player? Whether or not you like the sound you can't blame it on the instrument. It's as much as to do with the player as it is with the instrument. Or maybe in your, perhaps slightly ignorant view, this is not a factor.

  • ok. put it this way.... if u take two beginner oboists who are equally bad at the oboe, and give one an expensive fox oboe and the other a cheap plastic oboe... the one with the fox will sound in tune and as if he knew something about tuning. and this is a professional instrument...

  • anyways i never said the player was good... i just was explaining that if u dont know what ur doing u can make an instrument that already sound like crap sound like shit.... ive heard these played professionally and i STILL dont like it... and y is everyone fucking busting a nut trying to trick me into liking this crap? i dont like it and never will

  • Man what your saying is rubbish. I'm sure a good professional musician could get a good sound from a poor instrument. And in any case your original comment was about sound not tuning. Sound has everything to do with the player ESPECIALLY with WIND INSTRUMENTS. Nobody is trying to get you to like this. just trying to make you see that your arguments make no sense!

  • trust me they cant.....bad quality instruments are for bad quality players.... and i know what im talking about im a pro oboist....

  • Then if you are a pro you should know exactly what my point is about! Mate i'm a professional bass player and i know for a fact that a good musician can get a good sound from any instrument.

But you think that the ONLY way to achieve a good sound is to have a good instrument. What about embouchure and breath support? You call yourself a professional musician yet you seem to have great ignorance over people's ability. The instrument does not make the musician!

  • embouchure and breath support are both very important roles from a player but u cant just make a crappy instrument play a masterpiece with you alone.... because you will still either not be in tune or it will sound airy or raspy... and i am done with arguing and therefore am not responding any more.

  • You're stupid! I'm going to tell you a story: 6 months ago, Christian Lindberg came to my city. During the concert, someone asked him why the trombone was so special. He said: "the trombone is not special... It's just a piece of metal! The music is made by the musician, not by the instrument!"

Don't forget that he plays with Conn trombones, that are usually called amateur trombones!

A bad player get's a poor sound from a good instrument!

  • as I also recall, for brass the music comes from the player (vibrating lips), for woodwinds, its from the instrument (the reed). maybe thats why he thinks that

  • Maybe you wont reply because you know that your points are shite

  • burn lol =D

  • I WANT ONE

  • Good. Gravy.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • that sounds hoarable

  • it'd probably sound better in a big room, it looks like he's in a small room, and that's a lot of DBs flying around a small room

  • CEASE FIRE!!!! lol, sounds like a machine gun.

  • dont puff your cheeks

  • if ur puffing ur cheeks you are restricing your jaw range. its tough not to do it when playing that low but ur right, ya need to try to keep it tight.

  • I can do that on a tenor with an F attachment

Btw there is a mirafone contrabone that looks exactly like that one

  • I know, but that won't sound the same...

Doesn't have the body it should have..

  • Lol true

  • rofl ive got to have one of those x]

  • damn two slide trombone how much is that? iwant that!

  • Oh Jesus!!

  • OMG brown note lol

  • Good that you were able to play low.

  • goddamnit, just get tuba if you wanna go that low.

i would know, im a tubist

  • Then you should know that there is a difference.

  • yes, I understand that, but with this particular instrument, wouldn't it be more logical just to use a tuba if your wanting to go that low? tone quality is abig thing....

I honestly just don't get half of the instruments made to go lower than their original instrument.... or higher, without good tone.

I actually played the bass trombone, but gave it up, since I did not want to look like a poser tuba.

Anyways, I'm planning on becoming a professional tubist...

  • It's because the trombone has a unique sound that people enjoy having in every register. Have you ever heard a tuba in a jazz band? Sounds like crap. Have you heard a bass trombone in a jazz band? Sounds freaking sexy. And go look up "Light My Fire" by Marco Beltrami. There's another purpose of bass trombones.

Don't be dissin' on my instrument.

  • First off, I played the bass trombone for a while, and I personally did not like the sound. Second off, I play the tuba in the jazz band at our school, and it is freaking epic.

  • You probably don't like the sound of it because you play the tuba, and can't get the right sound out. Have you listened to any professional players before? I have yet to hear a good sounding jazz band with a tuba in it. The tuba basically just doubles over the bass guitar. If it's really that epic, I'd like to hear it. Though I doubt it actually is.

  • I do not like the sound of it, because it sounds like when I was a beginner tuba player, and I had a tone that sounded like a hair dryer. That's why I do not care for this instrument.

  • ... So what you're basically saying is that you hate the bass trombone because you suck at it? Mmk... Everyone has bad tone when they start a new instrument. It's pretty much a given when it comes to brass.

  • check out videos of New Orleans Jazz bands like Rebirth; there is no bass, just a sousaphone, and I think it sounds pretty good...there are ups and downs in both instruments: the tuba has a nice pure tone for good bottom end and the bass trombone sounds great for impacts...you can get a great brassy sound without taking over the entire band like you would if you tried to get that sound with a tuba

  • Actually I have heard great sounding jazz ensembles that have a tuba the USF Jazz Surge and the WDR Big Band have tuba players. Actually The WDR Big Band has a tuba player and a bass saxophone player! The bass trombone player doubles on tuba, and the low reed player plays bari sax, bass sax, and bass clarinet.

  • bass trombone is a completely different instrument to the tuba,

the obvious difference is the slide, but i'm not just talking about being able to glissando, i'm talking perfect tuning

the bass trombone has a cylindrical bore like any other trombone which means it can be loud and brutal

why do you think composers use it for incredibly loud sections of pieces

and you know in orchestras the tuba pretty much just plays the bass trombone part down an octave... there's no point you being there.

  • There's quite a point considering tuba makes much more sound. The low range of a bass trombone are very brutal, as you said, not dark. The bass trombone adds bite to the tuba part. I play tuba in many different styles including orchestral playing and when more volume is needed it comes from the tuba, not the trombones same concept in my brassband, and college bands. The only time a tuba could be considered unnecessary is in a quintet.

  • Cheeks, bad habbit

firm the corner of your lips up

spread your teeth and drop your jaw,

and keep the air stream full

  • what the fuck is that!?

  • some people are under the false impression that is the only way to play low but when I'm doing mega pedals the cheeks don't change at all

  • He is using a bad method, You are not suposed to puff your cheeks when playing.

  • to hit those low notes you have to

  • You actually dont have to, if u drop ur jaw it deepens the sound

  • totally true
