He probably read alot of philosophy as a young man. Shopenhauer even started his book with the line that the world is only a representation in my head. LSD then is a tool to get to the Kantian unknowable Ding an sich. Great stuff.

By modulating those signals you're changing the way your brain works, so it's not about channels, it's about the way your brain processes informations.
