I would not keep ferrets around any pet rodents because as soon as it got the chance it would kill. I've had a 'pet ferret' attack and kill two of my Guinea Pigs, there was no mercy and it wasn't pleasant.

You should buy your piggie a bigger cage and a friend, he must get awfully bored.
Also, to the commenters: lay off; the guinea pig seems to be asleep, so I'm sure that (Though it isn't smart to expose them to predators) he wasn't aware of the weasel attacking. :D

its how you raise your animals. if you get both animals when their young they can grow up to be friends like you would with a dog and ferret or cat and ferret. the ferret is prey to both those animals and yet some people have both and they get along with each other.

My ferrets can open a SP cage like it's nothing. Plus that cage is too small for even one cavy. Speaking of which, guinea pigs are extremely social, it's cruel to keep them alone. Imagine if that were you, locked up in solitary confinement, in a tiny cell. Then imagine something bigger then you with sharper claws and teeth trying to break in to get you. Besides, cavies are prey animals, having a ferret that near to them (Trying to get him!) is probably terrifying! Poor pig!

Some ferrets will not attack animals, some will, it's just as random as dogs and cats attacking small animals.
We have ones that kill mice (sometimes) but won't harm rats or other small animals. So it's just random.

Because I think thats a good think to know for me.. since I have a guinea pig and soon will have a ferret. They are seperated by an (open) wall and are both in cages when Im not around .. but is there still a chance?

I have a small animal rescue. And one of our fosters had a ferret and he was able to open a cage just like that and killed the pigs.
Just a recomendation, to watch out.

My ferrets can open a SP cage like it's nothing. Plus that cage is too small for even one cavy. Speaking of which, guinea pigs are extremely social, it's cruel to keep them alone. Imagine if that were you, locked up in solitary confinement, in a tiny cell. Then imagine something bigger then you with sharper claws and teeth trying to break in to get you. Besides, cavies are prey animals, having a ferret that near to them (Trying to get him!) is probably terrifying! Poor pig!

my bunny has the exact same cage! But she also has her very own room to romp around in. she is never locked inside her cage unless she is bad...but she is only inside it for like 5 mins. is this still bad?

How can you allow your ferrett to do that??? You do realise that if he gets inside, your guinea pig will be ripped to shreds? Ferretts are very intelligent, you should teach him that that behaviour is unacceptable.
And to keep a Guinea Pig in a cage that small is cruel in it's self.

That cage is much too small for a cavy. You should look into buying or building a C&C cage. Go to guineapigcages(dot)com to look into it.
I don't understand why you wouldn't stop the ferret. That's very traumatizing to a cavy.

If you like spazz pets, go with ferrets. Little critters are always up to something. If you like calm pets who every so often runs around like it's got down syndrome, then go with Guinea Pigs. I love 'em both.

For everyone's information, from what I understand domesticated ferrets are not so much 'predators', merely playful. However, this does not change the fact that a ferret is far stronger than any guinea pig, and could easily kill said piggie even if it were only meaning to play in the first place. If you are going to keep such animals together, I highly recommend that you do not allow them to come close to one another. God bless.

You would have to be mentally retarded to allow a ferret to do that. Ferrets are vicious carnivores; guinea pigs are herbivorous rodents. Prey animals. That ferret would kill that guinea pig in an instant, and the pig is likely terrified. The owners are the worst kind of idiots. I'd be surprised if that guinea pig lived any length of time after the making of this video.

Despite the fact that some animals do get along with one another, ferrets were hunters in the wild, while guinea pigs are herbivores. Guinea pigs can fight (and hard) for their existence, but their first instinct is to run. In this case, it's best not to let the two interact. I wouldn't say that the owners are horrible, since they certainly wouldn't have allowed the ferret inside, but I would advise them not to let the ferret too close to the pig again. God bless.

uhh my guinea pig is a little more visious it got into fight with his brother moc he is stealth and bite part of his ear off and ate it and left cuts amd marks on him... he weighs 2.5 pounds and he can jump out of my guinea pig box if he wants to ferrets met his match?

I don't even like guinea pigs but I think you're being cruel and inhumane. I'm surprised that more people haven't stated the same. Can you just image how terrified that guinea pig is feeling? You're like people that particpate in dog fights.
If you love this animal you should give him to someone that is really going to take care if it and not torture it. I'm not tring to be mean just stating a fact.

Lol usually owners of pets like to have their pets interact. Some ways may seem like offensive moves, but this ferret is obviously very curious about the guinea pig. You were a bit dramatic with the dog fight thing, and I think they eventually would take the ferret away if they knew the guinea pig didn't like it. It seems by the absense of response from the pig that it is somewhat shy but curious too, dude. Lay of your facts, please.

You realize that he is wanting dinner. Ferrets kill guinea, hamsters, bunnies, etc. Do the pig a favor, if you can't keep him safe give him to someone that can. I hope you at least have a conscience and do the right thing.

When you let your ferret out, know this:
They WILL and CAN hurt smaller pets, i.e. hamsters, fish, birds, GUINEA PIGS! You need to either put the cage in a place where the ferret can't get to or put locks on the cage and cage door. I hope you listen to my advice because anything...violent or fatal with happen.
