My favorite books are "This Present Darkness" & "Piercing The Darkness" by Frank Peretti (I think that's how you spell it). They are Christian fiction about spiritual warfare so if you aren't into that you may not like them. I also really enjoyed "The Da Vinci Code" & "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown. Also, anything by Michael Crichton I tend to enjoy but he is very intellectual & often goes over my head. And then there are "The Chronicles of Narnia" (CS Lewis) & "LOTR" (Tolkein), all time greats.

I enjoy reading weight loss books I just finished reading Confessions of a Carb Queen: A Memoir by Susan Blech about a women who loss over 250lbs.
I know how frustrating it can be to have an off weekend. Just enjoy the time with your friends and get right back on track... that really is the key!
As for books.. Haha. almost everything I read is a period piece. I did recently read "I'm not scared" by Niccolo Ammaniti -- it does take place in the 70's but the year has nothing to do with the book. It is a really quick and easy read, perfect for summer! really beautiful and a bit scary. I think you would really like it.
