on top of being a gnarly badass drummer this jon karel guy sounds like he could definitely make a couple of extra bucks on the side as a physics professor haha, he knows his shit!
I don't understand the idea of wanting the bass drum and toms to have a similar sound. It's false to say that everyone wants their toms and bass to sound consistent. Toms should have their own unique sound and feel. It adds more dynamics and opens up a lot of options in terms of musicality, but then again metal isn't much of a dynamic genre, at least when it comes to drumming. Very one dimensional. It seems as if they treat their drums like a machine rather than an instrument.
@tcslick420 It's pretty ignorant to say that metal isn't a diverse genre. Seeing as it has about a hundred sub genres. So far, only pornogrind is the only genre I've heard that always uses a drum machine.
my pedals have rusted, they do rust, i've played gigs with them and use them for practice, they do rust but i agree with the fact that there "road worthy"
Hi, I have the Tama Speed Cobras and I'm thinking about switching to Axis, I have no way to try Axis so I need to know if it would be worth it, your opinion would help, thanks.
@penguinsauce87 I have, practice is a given when playing a instrument, and it has paid off, but Axis seems to be a little bit better because of direct link. I actually should have asked about direct links in general, but Axis is made in U.S.A. and that was luring. Thank you for answering either way!
@thegriningnumber12 Oh no, I wasn't talking about that, but thanks anyway cause I didn't know what the one handed drum roll was called either haha! But I was talking about the one just before the gravity blasting ;)
@Waxxy57i cant post links for some reson type in the number 12 looks like you drum lesson it should be the first one in this video he talks about a swivel technique for the double bass
@Waxxy57 type in the number 12 looks like u drum lesson (cant post links for some reson) it should be the first one and he talks of a swivle technique for the double bass
ahahahahah he says that he's using the POWER GLIDE pedal, but at @2:46 you can notice how he's actually using the ROLLING GLIDE pedal!!! LOLOLOL anyway, he's a phenomenal drummer!! \m/,
thumbs down to anyone who has ever "helped" a drummer by grabbing their pedals by the fucking drive-shaft and plopped it down somewhere. shame on you.
As a newvbie to the art of percussion you just answered questions that nobody dares to address. MUCH appreciated. The pendulum effect is ignored out of ignorance untill now
@LewisTheDogue yeah, apparently there is lots of play in the u-joints on the drive shaft, and the slave beater always moves, ive tried it, and my old iron cobra and my speed cobra dont have and any problems and the speed cobra is alot fast than the DW9000 pedal, i actually have a speed cobra single pedal, my style changed alot, and i learnt heel-toe. TAMA is ace though right?
@joeyjuniorjunior Ok, i dunno what kind of style you play or what you do with the pedal, but me and my friends dont have any play on the Ic power gide.Just tighten the stuff up, and it holds up well.
So you've had expierence with the speed cobra pedal?
I've heard plenty times that the pedal is slow, hard strokes true, but heavy & slow.
@LewisTheDogue no i meant there is play on the DW9000, i play like Aaron spears, tony royster jr, drummers like that. i have great expeirence with all TAMA pedals
@15thDrummer I've had all three (flexi, power and rolling glide) pedals and they all have differences that you can tell while playing but they aren't that big of a difference. Rolling and Flexi glide's both have a more rounded cam that helps to keep speed and consistency. The power glides cam has an angle in it the makes the kick a little more powerful without sacrificing much speed at all (I don't even notice). The flexi glides (strap) are a little smoother in action. I play the power glides n
At my local drum store, there's a guy who walks in with his Axis longboards for his lesson. He brings them byhand, with no case. Everytime I see him now, My IC's in their nice case and his ALs in his hands, we just squint at eachother and wal our separate ways.
i was thinking of getting some tama iron cobras and i was deciding between power glide or rolling glide
does any 1 know if the power glide makes any difference to the speed at all as its got a wierer cam im quessing it can effect the speed and accuracy Compared to the rolling glide
so what would you guys surggest rolling glide or power glide my bets on the rolling at the moment :D?
I just love what he's saying. The not-triggering, the wood sound ... He obviously loves real sound and loves the Iron Cobra. It's like he's talking out of my mind. Good guy!
@Olepej96 your hands do a 3 over 2 polyrhythm. your left does the 3 and your right does the 2. in between every stroke with the left hand, there are two bass drum strokes, making them groups of 3, converting the polyrhythm to 9 over 2.
@drumfr3k they are actually quintuplets. the pattern is RLRLK. or KRLRL. however you want to do it. i got drum lessons from him and he taught me that fill.
@benson1ification hes holding the iron cobra power glide when hes talking. hes using a rolling glide when playing in the video, and as you can see, its a brand new pedal, along with the drums hes using because they still have the stock tama drum heads. so they just gave him a new set of pedals and drums to play in the review.
@AlecBFlores it does it because the pedal isn't hooked up to a bass drum so it has play in the towers and as u push the footboard it moves the left beater as well as the right beater.
Okay , I have a stupid question here. I have the iron cobra power glides and I was wondering if I could put axis sonic hammer beaters on the iron cobras! Is it possible ?
@Love4Drums1 Yes you can use the sonic hammers. I have used them in the iron cobras, but I thought they were too heavy so I cut the end off of the the piece that the beater heads are connected to about half way and that helped alot, however I also used the DW dual sided beaters with the plastic side and got more volume in my playing with those. Try a couple of things before you decide!!!
can someone help me? i cant seem to get that nearly 90 degree angle he has with his beaters and bass drum head. i have to go farther than that and its annoying cause it makes it harder to play. am i doing something wrong?
Jon really hit the nail on the head when talking about his views of direct drive pedals. I hate pedals that are TOO light, because it throws out any technique you have been working on and makes you start all over again because the feel is completely different. I have to have some throwback from the springs in order to create multiple strokes, just like a stick bouncing off of a drumhead. Jon is a beast, and quite different from other metal drummers. He has a unique approach, like a jazz drummer.
@Musefan6732 last time i checked i didnt ask a fucking question its obvious its turned off thats why i said there was no snare, there was no need for you to be a smartass

"mark white steve white DRUMBEATSTROKE"
I am ONLY interested in helping my fellow sticksman/woman as STROKE is the number 1 INCAPACITOR in the WEST and I [Mark White] have spent the last 2 years trying to give a HEADSUP to RHYTHMATIISTS while I am Paralysed 1H&1F- I PLAY .
I've tryied all three. I currently play the Flexi Drive. I like them all, but (funny enough) because of my playing style the powerglide is too loud for me. Haha.
OUTSTANDING feet and ILOVE the clarity in your ALTERNATE SINGLE STROKE FEET ROLLS UBER UBER HARD TO NAIL as I am trying to do the same but with one PEDAL& ONE HAND BUT I do it MUCH slower .I have a BIG IC but prefer the IC JR single chain
@Greg676 same here, they are great. My guitar center only carries the power glide so that's what I got also. I have a question for you, did yours come with the interchangeable beaters? Because I read online that they did, but mine didn't......
@Grasshoppa065 I saw online that some packs did have the interchangeable beaters, and also came with a flashlight... that was back when the cobra coil was an option too... so it was the Bonus pack that came with the beaters, flashlight and cobra coil... now that the cobra coil is standard that bonus package is not available anymore... I was looking for it myself too lol
Great interview. I agree with a lot with what he has to say about this pedal. :) Couldn't help but laugh because he said 'Wood in your hand". :P But in all seriousness, this pedal is epic, and a lot of drummer could learn a lot from having this.
@xtheasiansensationx don't worry about. The cobra coil doesn't do anything anyways. Think about it. If it's a chain drive pedal than the pedal is only going to lift itself as fast as the springs will let it, otherwise you will have slack in the chain. So the cobra coil doesn't do anything because your springs have to be tensioned high anyway.
@Mp5Drummer Did you say I fail??? Okay, this is simple physics. Yes, it does feel different, it actually creates more unnecessary tension. It won't push the pedal up any faster though, at least not to a degree where you would notice it. Also, the logic behind the cobra coil is so stupid, "Well you see, you have to tighten the springs so the footboard comes up faster, but that makes it hard to push down so we will add another spring (making it harder to press down) so you can loosen the otherone
@Grasshoppa065 Just saying, I find it easier to play with the Cobra Coil on, than tightening my springs. I was confused about it too cos of how the physics works, but then if you think about it, the springs have to do less work bringing the pedal board back up, because the cobra coil is doing some of that, more of the energy can go into pulling back the beater. It feels like that's what's going on. Anyway I prefer it with them, so I'm leaving my coils on :)
The cam is what makes them diffrent because the rolling glide is just round and the power glide is round the goes flat to make some what of a 90 degree angle if you will
@JeremyJunior4352. It must be #1 of your observation because even if he like the rolling glide feel more on the slave peddle side it wouldent matter because the peddle will still be a power glide because the beaters are still on the master peddle not on the slave and master peddle and it's the cam that does it
is that music at the beginning?

I am ONLY interested in helping my fellow sticksman/woman as STROKE is the number 1 INCAPACITOR in the WEST and I [Mark White] have spent the last 2 years trying to give a HEADSUP to RHYTHMATIISTS while I am Paralysed 1H&1F- I PLAY .

I've tryied all three. I currently play the Flexi Drive. I like them all, but (funny enough) because of my playing style the powerglide is too loud for me. Haha.

Wood beaters sound more articulate but they eat your drum heads. You have been warned.

I just purchased an Iron cobra double pedal and due to the para clamp you cannot put it so that both beaters hit it off center!

just picked these up today! love them already! choose the power glide over the rolling glide for that added power at the end of the stroke.
Greg676 1 year ago
@Greg676 same here, they are great. My guitar center only carries the power glide so that's what I got also. I have a question for you, did yours come with the interchangeable beaters? Because I read online that they did, but mine didn't......
Grasshoppa065 1 year ago
@Grasshoppa065 I saw online that some packs did have the interchangeable beaters, and also came with a flashlight... that was back when the cobra coil was an option too... so it was the Bonus pack that came with the beaters, flashlight and cobra coil... now that the cobra coil is standard that bonus package is not available anymore... I was looking for it myself too lol

@Grasshoppa065 I highly recommend the wood beaters, they sound really great

Great interview. I agree with a lot with what he has to say about this pedal. :) Couldn't help but laugh because he said 'Wood in your hand". :P But in all seriousness, this pedal is epic, and a lot of drummer could learn a lot from having this.
eojnotlow 1 year ago
hmm mine didnt come with the cobra coil, how do you get it??
xtheasiansensationx 1 year ago
@xtheasiansensationx don't worry about. The cobra coil doesn't do anything anyways. Think about it. If it's a chain drive pedal than the pedal is only going to lift itself as fast as the springs will let it, otherwise you will have slack in the chain. So the cobra coil doesn't do anything because your springs have to be tensioned high anyway.
Grasshoppa065 1 year ago
@Grasshoppa065 Have you ever used them? My pedals feel different with the cobra coil on and off, and also where you position it. FAIL
Mp5Drummer 1 year ago
@Mp5Drummer Did you say I fail??? Okay, this is simple physics. Yes, it does feel different, it actually creates more unnecessary tension. It won't push the pedal up any faster though, at least not to a degree where you would notice it. Also, the logic behind the cobra coil is so stupid, "Well you see, you have to tighten the springs so the footboard comes up faster, but that makes it hard to push down so we will add another spring (making it harder to press down) so you can loosen the otherone
Grasshoppa065 1 year ago
@Grasshoppa065 Just saying, I find it easier to play with the Cobra Coil on, than tightening my springs. I was confused about it too cos of how the physics works, but then if you think about it, the springs have to do less work bringing the pedal board back up, because the cobra coil is doing some of that, more of the energy can go into pulling back the beater. It feels like that's what's going on. Anyway I prefer it with them, so I'm leaving my coils on :)

Does any of those drummers use iron cobras because they are good, or because they have to(tama as sponsor)?
Villex93 1 year ago
@Villex93 yeah I have a friend who uses these pedals.

The cam is what makes them diffrent because the rolling glide is just round and the power glide is round the goes flat to make some what of a 90 degree angle if you will
Drummingtobreath 1 year ago
@JeremyJunior4352. It must be #1 of your observation because even if he like the rolling glide feel more on the slave peddle side it wouldent matter because the peddle will still be a power glide because the beaters are still on the master peddle not on the slave and master peddle and it's the cam that does it

2:49 is rolling glide D:
