hi, i saw this a while ago and thought it was really good, recently had a thought: do you think on a ledge muscle ups would be possible this way ( i don't think there would be enough grip on a bar)? and well done.
It would be possible to muscle up like this and you could even do it on a bar, but it's likely to require a lot more strength and/or speed than what I currently have. I've actually experimented with a pull up on a bar that uses the finger points only which is similar to crimping in climbing, but it's something to consider if you want to build more finger strength and you're interested in expanding the realms of possibility.
Hey i discovered i could do this the other day and i completly understand what u mean by it being smoother but once im above the wall with top half of my body i still have to switch after ive pushed up so i can swing my feet inbetween my arms and onto the wall
When I've been climbing up recently I use just one leg on the outside of my hands as it seems more natural than in between and requires less flexibility.
Have you tried to do this method with a proper topout? I really don't know if you can get it to be fast and efficient but hey what ever works for you. BTW good control, keep up the hard/safe training!
What's a topout?! What I was aiming for here was being able to lift at least one foot onto the wall with the same motion that brings your arms up.
The funny thing is I haven't trained any climb ups since this video, but I'm sure it'll be easier as I've been working on my pulling strength in a lot of different ways.
That's good but you can do the same thing with landing your entire fingers over the top of the wall. Still no need to switch grips during the climb up and you get the added benefit of a stronger hold on the wall.
I don't land with my hands in a position using the whole length of my fingers which is why I've never tried, but I'm interested in giving it a go. Come to think of it does anyone land like that?
its looks like a interesting way of trying it, but it does look like it puts lots of strain on your wrists becuase if you do the transitons then your weight is on your palms not straining your wrists?
Regardless of whether you are using your fingers, just the bottom of your palm or your whole hand, holding your bodyweight on your hands can strain your wrists. I would agree that you need stronger wrists to do it this way, but as always the key is to build up. I think the only real way of knowing whether something is possible or not is to actually try.
I think it all depends on experience. I've done various things on my fingers for years, like tuck planche and handstands, but at the same time I take it easy when trying muscle ups because just a few of them can be quite taxing on the wrists. I did about 50 of these today. When I didn't have the strength to go all the way I just held it for as long as I could and then slowly lowered.
I hope that nothing we do proves to be damaging in the long run.
You're very strong! I would need to develop my upper body and arms for a long time before getting anywhere near this. I think that would apply for most people.

I do the same but after about a year of doing it now I can hardly bend my fingers with the pain. Id go back to the way used to do it asap.

You mean overgrip? Overgrip is the easiest technique of them all but you're limited to where you can do it.
eightyeightdays 3 years ago
No. using more of your fingers rather than just fingertips.

This could definitely be useful, I'm imagining scenarios with small ledges and no space in front of you or things like that.
I hope it's not damaging for wrists..

that would be so fast if you traind it alot i think. but it mite put alot of strain on your fingers etc ?
