years ago, when i first saw this bike a few years ago, i instatly thought "girls bike".
now ive seen a few in the flesh, i must admit, it doesnt look to ba actually, and i think the plain black 2010 model is pretty tasty myself. ive sat on a few, and its comfortable for my , ahem, slightly oversized frame, plus the optional higher seat would be a great buy for taller people.
i would say the seat is a bit thin, but luckly, i got my own inbuilt padding for that
I would have much preffered if suzuki had just updated the sv since it has been 6 years since the last time they changed the design needs updating, but this is far too feminine I would have an er6n over this any day
I had an SV and loved it. It would not have had the same feel if it was 50+ pounds heavier reguardless of the very small horse power increase.. Plus this bike looks like a moped and a B King made love and had a baby, and the baby was a girl.
The Gladius and the SV are two different bikes. Its too bad that the gladius will always be critiqued by such an arrogant community of middlewieght track day losers
I have rode an sv and it`s clumpsy on country roads and houseing estates so much so that any new rider would have to get off the damned thing just to turn it round. the gladius I can turn in the opposite direction very easily and has a better engine range. The gladius is by no means perfect but the sv cannot compete with the gladius modern style or ease of use.
People who dis this gorgeous bike as "gay" are obviously closet queers themselves...99% of homophobes really just want some man meat, it's been shown ;-) So just come out already, boys!
And, people hated the Hayabusa when it first came out too...now look at it....
This bike is wonderful and will be my next one in just a few weeks.
I'm a straight boy and don't find it at all "gay" as some of you consider it. It's just a nice and very funny bike compared to the "tired & retired" SV.
Not to be a jerk, but nice and funny is not what I think most people would be looking for in a motorcycle. I think we'll know soon enough whether Suzuki made the right move when we see what their sales look like for this model. You have clearly never ridden an SV because I've never heard anyone describe it as "tired."
All new steel trellis frame... enough said right there. Take an already beautiful, lightweight, proven, race-worthy frame and replace it with steel. Genius... If that's not bean counting and cost cutting I don't know what is. Yeah it's got more power, but does it have the suspension and brakes to deal with an extra 66 pounds? I doubt it. And they alienated all of the first time riders and females that loved the SV for what it was. Accessible fun. Go die Suzuki.
Well a Suzuki is no Ducati, and whether or not a Monster has a steel frame doesn't matter to me. All that matters to me is that this "new" frame is conspiring to make a heavier bike than the immensely popular outgoing model. That just flies in the face of conventional wisdom. Maybe they should paint all of them red or yellow like Ducati does. They'd still be fat and ugly.
Iirc all Ducatis use a steel trellis frame for the improved handling. Maintaining the same weight or as in this case going lighter with steel is often more expensive and time-consuming.
Sorry I'm so ill about this thing. As a former SV owner and someone who really appreciated what the SV was, I'm just really disappointed in this bike. It is much heavier than the naked SV. And yes it is more powerful but the extra weight is the killer. Plus, the SV consistently got great marks for its great chassis. If anything, they should have spent money to update the suspension of the existing bike and then restyle it if they saw the need. This new bike just makes me sad.
Yeah, a whole 8 pounds is definitely going to "kill" a bike.
It's got about 10% more torque and slightly more horsepower, a stiffer frame, bigger brakes, and better OEM shoes, but no, you're right, 8 pounds definitely killed this bike.
Thanks for replying to my comment. I feel like it's fair to compare the naked SV with the naked Gladius since it doesn't offer the half fairing of the SVS models. The Gladius' dry weight is 426 lbs. The SV's dry weight is 370. Just in case you don't have a calculator handy that is 56 lbs. I had said 66 before but I was using the Gladius' wet number. And it better have a stiffer frame, better brakes, and more horsepower if it's carting an extra 56 lbs. I'll pass, thanks.
I totally agree. I was really interested in this bike until I realized that I'd need to buy a beret and turn into a total Euro fag before Suzuki will sell me one.
You guys hit the nail right on the head. No one should ever have a different taste in bikes, and if they do they should get rimmed and hated on until they buy something everyone else has.
*Vomits*...And the worst thing is...if i want a sv(Faired)...i gotta spend 2 extra grand...Good job suzuki...i think you just broke my families suzuki habit...
Nice bike in some respects. it sounded as if it was dragging the foot peg at times in the curves. Where is the review ?

I think the SV v. Gladius argument can be summarized as this:
"Suzuki could have built upon a great bike, but instead shit all over it and made a bike named after a gay stripper"
