The album is just a little more mainstream than those 3 tracks they released before the album was released. You also missed a great version of I believe in you and surely :-)

    Peace... lol

  • "Yeah! That's a nice date!"

    "Haha- what?! ..... Haha"

Great job Trixie, Brian and Daniel :)

  • Holly mother!

  • Brian is an extraordinary drummer and Trixie a most talented singer/composer. None of them needed a clown - Daniel - to make this video worth watching...

  • "Lanois is a joke"?

Lanois has the finished song in his head. He knows EXACTLY what the drummer needs to do, he knows exactly what the singer needs to do. He's the conductor.

Might just be the reason why he's the producer of choice for Dylan and U2....

  • Fail at Lanois, Blade and the singer made this song good, Lanois is a joke!

  • @CommanderSwagger you got no idea what ur talking about?.... Blade never played this song before this time in the video, lanois is everything but a joke...

  • Looking forward to the London events shortly.

  • Wow. Amazing. The only thing missing from this otherwise stunning performance was Trixie and Brian absolutely kicking the shit out of Daniel Lanois after the take for stealing their thunder (third wheel if I ever saw one) and for his biker face and neck beard. I kid Daniel.

  • 12 losers in the house!!!

  • YES!!!!!

  • Ha Ha Ha !!! There is a side of Daniel you don't see! Great song, great video and us east coasters cannot wait for Black Dub's extensive tour here!!!!

  • I'm so loving the connection between Lanois and Blade... Beautiful to watch, really :)

  • This is such an awesome song!

  • Should have said WAS a genius. Tragically, Chris Whitley died young.

    YJ

  • Now this is INTERESTING. With all the over-produced commercial crap out there, this is a refreshing change. Trixie definitely got some of her dad's genes. Check out Chris Whitley's stuff if you haven't. He's a genius. And this is good stuff. cheers.

  • this song made me cry because it's so beautiful

  • Lots of blessings your way.. love your deep heart soul~

  • Lanois is a producer. The producer's role in the studio is to coax the best performance possible out of the players. He's doing his job and doing it well.

  • @artbizness A producer's role is OFF the stage.

  • @smackbat This is backstage footage. He's already off-stage.

  • @smackbat

not if your daniel lanois. then your job is to play along and be inspired by what others are doing and inspire them also.

  • @artbizness

He sure is. I love this video.

  • Lanois is a producer. The producer's role in the studio is to coax the best performance possible out of the players. He's doing his job and doing it well.

  • Lanois inclusion in the scene and participation in this video is totally unecessary. Otherwise this is just one of his ego trips. I would stay quite happy with Brian and Trixie alone!

  • What you may or may not realize is that what you are watching is not what you are hearing. I'm sure they did a few takes and decided to go with one that was more mellow dynamically overall instead of what Lanois was feeling at that moment in the video.

  • @andyselbymusic

Actually I think we are hearing the drum take we are watching.

  • Can someone please direct me to more artists and music like this? I'm just starting to get into soul, and I'm really liking it. :) Thanks.

  • I though in the beginning of the drums it was the intro for the song PAPARAZZI LOL anywayss THIS SONG IS WAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE EPIC LEGEND!! :D xD

Ici je me sens désolé. Moi, poête, écrivain, philosophe qui n'ai jamais rien écrit mais au moins qui y croit et y aspire.

    D'être si fragile. Merci.

  • I am truly in awe! But why? Why was this gem left off the album? I surely hope it's to get me to buy the next release. I truly rather go blind than not have this to listen to. Daniel give it up now!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time!

  • Nobody deserved a clown (Lanois) here.

  • Still hate the background vocals 3:33

  • Where can I get this song? Red floor records dot com only does pay pal and I don't. Gotta have it! This song is phenomenal... I wish it was on the album!

  • @thetroyjac video2mp3[dot]net, piece of cake to download any youtube song u like for free :p

  • Lanois is badass. Blade is badass. Trixie is badass. I fucking love Black Dub. Daniel, quit giving U2 and Neil Young records #1 priority over your own! Please keep it coming!

  • the dude's dance is retarded. Joe Cocker is better. :)

  • Nicely done.........

  • Fascinating, brilliant, surreal, haunting, moving.

  • when you get to the point of dissecting every note, every move, every movement... you are destined to never purely and freely enjoy music again.

    REEEEeeeeee....LLLLLaaaaaxxxxxxxxx

    ................and listen

  • i've been dreaming of someone 'producing' my efforts for a while now. Daniel might be a little bit more 'hands-on' than i had in mind, but he clearly can haul his freight. he and Blade have been together for a long time, so i don't suppose there are any problems there.

  • You can grab the audio-mp3 of this track at grabyourmp3 doht cohm.

  • love.

  • I'm proud to be from the same city as Daniel Lanois, I will definately be buying this album.

  • Love Black Dub ! If you haven't seen them live, you need to watch their live Tiny Desk session on NPR. "I Believe in You" is amazing!

  • That's a nice take lollll

  • I LOVE this. Everything about it. I'm a huge fan of Chris Whitley and it's amazing to see his haunting intensity and distinctive singing and playing style living on in Trixie. She is amazing. This is the most raw, honest, emotional, captivating and fresh music I have heard in ages. Inspirational. Love this band

  • great stuff

  • its awesome, just like Chris Whitley, it's a shame he's dead.

but his daughter is doing great to!

  • just great music... Get yourself a fucking good meal on me... I'm buying this.

  • Ok. Who are the 10 douchebags who disliked this? Fucking idiots.

  • I looooooooooove this. wow.

  • This is great... three artists in peak form... I love Lanois here... so into it... all of them are... I wish I could see more of the raw footage... I'd love to hear the discussions before and after... and I'd love to see how Lanois works with other greats like U2 or Dylan. I can hear Trixie's father in her voice... killer tune.

  • Loving that groove.

  • No one..I MEAN NO ONE, gives direction better than Daniel.. The communication going on there is something that very few can understand, although I am in a position that many have not been. Daniel and Bob (his brother) are both artists from the word go and they don't care whether you like how it looks or whether or not it would distract you. Perhaps that's why some people don't get the calls that Brian and company get. Trixie is a gem. I had the pleasure of meeting her father on a number of occa

  • love this song...saw it on cory dee's facebook

    good job!

  • @pastafazool56 .. Bobby who? ;)

  • just because lanios is dancing cymbal crashes at the end of the take doesn't mean there was anything wrong with the killin' groove blade is slaying or where it was going, these are moments of inspiration folks and the tune rules, try and dig it for how great it is rather than talk about how it could have been better!

  • Music is based on impulses. Lanois was showing his excitement toward what was happening in the moment while merely providing suggestions. Blade, as a professional musician, played what he felt while taking into consideration Lanois' ideas. The result: sonic bliss. Lesson: a little encouragement never hurt anyone.

  • @yonopuedo90 Yep!

  • @yonopuedo90 stupid ass comment. and just so you know, Brian had never heard or played the song before this moment. Trixie says so in an interview published today.

  • So good...

  • Yeah.. He only produced a couple of records for U2, Joshua Tree, Peter Gabriel etc.

    Definetely a "nobody" ;)

  • @KasperMollDrummer And don't forget that Bob Dylan guy too.

  • I find it funny that the big name in this group - Lanois - is by far the least talented.. like i thought of him as some sort of burned out cabbie driver they asked to play on the session when I watched I Believe in You... but if he writes the most of the stuff or something I take it back.

  • love love love black dub. if you haven't heard their album yet, you can stream it on NPR. it's incredible.

  • gorgeous end section and brian's one of my favs

  • Lanois has a pretty stunning track record as a producer. I guess the easily distracted aren't invited to his sessions.

  • Great song. Her father is smiling down on her

  • can't wait for the album , so close

  • @e30will

What's the title of her new album? I will get it for sure. I met her Dad a few times. He was so kind and shy and just amazing in concert. Even his autograph is awesome. Full of light. ;) Great memories.

  • Where do you get it wasn't helpful? He and the drummer seem to have a pretty good rapport. Blade was smiling most of the time. I guess not being a musician I don't feel I can be quite so presumptuous.

  • @devinbret

It sounds so good but if someone was jumping around in front of me like that during a recording I would be so distracted.

  • Love this song

  • I just love this song

  • everything Lanois touches is GOLD.

  • someone knows the lyrics of this song?thanks

  • A nice take. Indeed. Take a listen. Black Dub's album will be out Nov. 2. Can't wait.

  • You can see what Daniel wants at 3:20 and you see it go bad at 3:24. Daniel is entertaing but Trixie and Brian are terrific. You can see Trixie appreciate Brian at 2:11. Great Stuff!

  • Awesome song, I love her voice. Kind of reminds me of Adele.

  • I've been non stop listening to this song.

  • I love the whole vibe of this! Twixie sounds great and Brian Blade is just killen'!

  • pre-ordered the CD yesterday...

Now just sit back and wait :)

  • nobody breaks his good taste!

  • Wow! I love it!! :D

  • sometimes don't comment... just dig what is happening... peace.

  • What beautiful notes at 2:02

  • all i hear is magic

  • I love their laughter at the end, great track

  • From what I've read in the comments some folks are distrurbed by Daniel. I love it when there's someone in the studio to pump the music along to coach or just to add another personality to the musical collaboration even if they don't play anything. The atmosphere changes depending on who's in the room. Daniel is kind of playing as a kind of director or conductor. Being driven by how the conductor is feeling or interpreting things can be a rich experience.

  • Who let Francis Ford Coppola in the studio?

  • @ploopymops Daniel Lanois is one of the best and most respected producer/guitarist in the industry I think someone needs to grow up a little, seeing as how he most likely produced a large sum of your favorite songs.

  • @JonathanAschalew Yes I should grow up but I don't want to. I hope that's o.k.

  • @ploopymops It's advice not a command ; )

  • @JonathanAschalew- Friend, my silly comment was meant with love, and you're right, he has produced a couple of my favourite albums, Time Out Of Mind being one that springs to mind as I type this.

He is a special and rare talent indeed, and long my he continue to produce really good music and pull together the talent.

(but he does look like Francis Ford Coppola!)

  • @ploopymops I think Daniel would take that as a compliment.... as I believe Mr. Coppola would as well. I seem to remember Bono describing the filming of Rattle and Hum being like Apocalypse Now, only with more helicopters. I'd love to be in the room when D. mixes, I bet he plays the board like a pedal steel.

  • Get Well Soon Danny Boy!!

    luv you trixie!!!

  • It's great! She's very talented and her voice is awesome!

  • Daniel Lanois was in a pretty serious motorcycle accident but apparently he's getting better .. thank G

  • I'm choreographing a lyrical dance to this song :)

  • Geniaal!!

  • I am Brian Blade's greatest #1 fan, sans the kidnapping and feet mutilation....(get the Misery association) he is my drumming GOD....

  • i feel so not alone by watching the producer ! and she is just awesome pure !

  • nice lines this girl sings, creative one.like it

  • This is great! I can see why Lou Reed likes your stuff, there is no better praise than that. I want more!!!!

  • Man, after reading these comments all I can think is who the fuck cares who did what, when, where and how. The result is amazing. Anybody who takes more pride in the music then themselves realizes that (i.e. all performers in this video)... and that's all that needs to be said about that.

  • @MaScotheneyfield x2! It's all interpretation anyways. I mean, did everyone hear what I just heard?! Holy cow man! APPARENTLY they all were happy w/the outcome since that is the one that was released. Therefore, the dream/vision was captured.

  • I once interviewed Dan a number of years ago and asked him how he gets such great performances in the studio from the artist on the other side of the glass. He replied that first off he never separates himself from the artist with studio glass. Here's a track from his latest project... Think of his as a conductor in this situation... You can't argue with the result.

  • I have no problem with Lanois. Isnt it his project, and Blade (who is amazing) is just doing session work? So its his job to fulfill Lanois' vision. Plus, I think 90% of what he was trying to tell Blade was right, he was too mellow at times, and Lanois wanted him to kick it up. I understand how people could disagree, thats a matter of personal preference. I dont understand how people are saying Lanois was being condescending. How exactly was he supposed to tell Blade what he wanted?

  • hahahaah i´ll fight you for brian!!!!

  • @Inshadows worth fighting for =D

  • Haha why argue? Lanois and Blade both seem rather pleased with the outcome. I think Lanois is just into the music. I don't think he questions Blade's judgements at all. Do you?

  • @camlecrone no, not really, i just found lanois' gestures bizarre and unnecessary at times. it was a pretty simple complaint, the whole thing has spiraled a bit because people presume i'm questioning lanois' ability. he is obviously doing a great job as a producer.

  • To thedeservingmany - Yes perhaps you would have a problem with Lanois hand gestures and perhaps thats why you didn't get asked to do it. perhaps you're a little insecure ? Can't you see that Lanois is cueing dynamics from Blade and probably trying to plug himself into the vibe between the artists, he's the producer ! thats what Producers do! How much studio experience have you had ?

  • @clevermedia look, as my original comment demonstrates, i completely agree with what lanois was attempting to cue. it is the MANNER in which lanois does so that i find a tad condescending. it is because i've been in situations where musicians with big egos cue things in this way that i chimed in; it detracts from the music. i promise you, most producers do not cue things like that in the middle of a run. it is very peculiar. anyway, i'm done here, because it seems like you're just baiting me.

  • @thedeservingmany Have you ever seen someone conducting?

  • Lanois and Blade have worked together for many years on many projects, soI doubt very seriously his gesturing was insultive to him and yes Blade is perhaps the best livin jazz drummer. Blade is Lanois' "go to" drummer. Just as Daryl Johnson is his "go to" bassist.

  • @profjhicks14 you're right, blade is probably used to this from having worked together so much, but that doesn't make lanois' actions any more conducive to the production of a solid track. i'm not really doubting his ability in a big way, i just know that if i were in blade's shoes i'd have a bit of a problem with lanois' approach here.

  • remove the producer? he'sa frickin legend...and has produced more music/artists than I can name. zebonaut...Lanois is just looking for a bit more high hat I think. It;s great to see Lanois working with Trixie as he produced her dad's first disc (RIP Chris).
