  • I never understood why they made Egon look like a cracked-out Brian Setzer?

  • The necronomicon, Arkham, Tentacles and someone fainting in the first two minutes? Now THATS a Hp Lovecraft episode!

  • I'm sorry but the fact that one of them is vioced by the same actor who does garfield throws me way the fuck off

  • "He makes Gozer look like Little Merry Sunshine."

LMAO!!! I forgot all about that line. LMAO!!!

  • Me and my uncle used to watch this all the time its sooo cool!!!

  • Garfield?

  • Man TRG fought every god and demon know to man,,and won,,,how can you NOT call them badass.

  • The online quality of this sucks - im gonna go and buy the entire collection on dvd brand new off ebay. I hope they get round to putting all the episodes of extreme ghostbusters and men in black animated on dvd too. Mabey one day get a real movie version crossover of MIB and GB's. I mean if a GB's can show up in Casper the friendly ghost anything is possible right?

  • "He makes Gozer look like Little Mary Sunshine" lol

One day the Old Ones will rise and reclaim the world!

    Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn.

  • Good Lovecraft homage, or the BEST Lovecraft homage?

  • I watched this as a kid, but as an adult I get so many more references. Cathulu makes Gozer look like Mary Sunshine indeed.

  • one great cartoon.

  • wow my ex-girl friend has a PKE valence 9.9 too!!

  • @SoulTroll06 You dated her too?

  • The main Great Old Ones are Cthulhu (pronounced correctlty KOO-TOO-LOO), Yog-Sothoth,Shub-Niggurath,Hastur,Nyarlathotep and Tsathoggua.

Their main enemy are the Elder Gods, whom Lovecraft didn't have time time to flesh out before dying. The Old Ones' can travel the stars and even modify matter with the god-like power of thought, whereas the Elders use trheir super-advanced technology.

  • @SardaukarPrime

First of all, Yog-Sothoth is not, in fact, one of the Great Old Ones. The Lurker at the Threshold, as he is better known, is one of the Outer Gods. Same goes for Nyarlathotep, and Shub-Niggurath. This means that they are in fact more owerful than the Great Old One's and more harmful to your sanity and life, should you incur their wrath.

Second, those puny beings known as the Elder Gods are not rivals for the Great C'thulu. He will destroy them. And then you. I'ä! I'ä R'yleh!

  • @Brandt761 does this random knowledge get or push away the ladies?

  • @dustinxrx no clue.

  • @xombiez117 I'm guessing they spelled the name "Cathulhu" because the Arkham House publishing company is the copyright holder of the "Cthulhu Mythos" proper, and this is a parody, albeit a well done and well-researched parody. I'm guessing they had to ask permission to make this, though, because they use Arkham, the Necronomicon, and a shoggoth.

  • multiple Cthulhu's?

  • Sounds like the score in a few parts is lifted from John Carpenter's THE FOG.

  • Its Ironic, The dude voicing Peter is the same dude who voiced Garfield, then Bill Murray Voiced Garfield in that godawful movie

  • Egon got suspenders, brown pants, and pink shirts way before the Eleventh Doctor

  • In what I heard Cthulu was a myth with a squid face.

  • @BMorales0301 HP Lovecraft pioneered a form of fiction that featured interdimensional entities powerful enough to drive mear mortals insane with a thought. After his death, it was expanded by his contemporaries and fans. Cthulhu is one of the most famous "Old Ones", and is usually depicted as a bat-winged monster with an octopus head.

  • 5:00 No it's not.

  • Was there ever an episode when the Ghostbusters fought Gowser ???

  • @JANEMBA9000 After hearing Egon mention him in this episode, Id like to know this as well. Its Goser BTW

  • SORRY (KUTULU) not katulu

i have a page in front of me and i cant even spell it right

  • im not wrong

    lovecraft wrote it as Cthulhu

sumerians wrote it as Ctha-lu or Katulu

nothing bad happens just by knowing the old ones names its how you use the power words/chants inside the necronomicon i dont advise doing that at any costs unless you think you have what it takes to do battle with the old ones thats what it is all about

well you have all learnt something new have a good day everyone

(check me out if you like drum n bass im not great but im ok i use Magix music maker)

  • @bootboyz86 Master H.P.L wrote Cthulhu cause he didn' know how to write an alien word, it comes from the trought, but, in the internet and in books you find Kutulu wrote, which means in sumerian, as they say, (Lord of the deep" or something like that, i do not know if it really means so.. but.. i hope it doesn't exist, cause we are in trouble XD LOL Cheers!

  • The great one will rise, and even the non-believers will go mad in his presence. Only the sacred few will see the true gaze of the sunken city.

  • could you upload slimer is that you?

  • Uh oh- they better start treating Janine better, she was reading a book called changing your job

  • Ah... New York public libaray, as I recall, in the movie- it was where the ghostbusting buisness began.

  • reliving the childhood...priceless...thanks RGB, you know whats up...thanks again, i now have my 2 year old hooked

  • lorenz is definitly the best

  • Those Monsters... Are They What I Think They Are...

    Are They... THE OLD ONES???

  • @AceHuntera619 Ia Dagon, Ia Hydra, Ia Cthulu!

  • Peter was looking to get a piece of ass...

  • There was another episode that dealt with the Old Ones later in the series in season 6 called Russian About:

  • one of the best tv shows ever!!

  • Ok, serious question. Why has no one just burned this book. As far as lovecratian lore is concerned only one copy of the Necronomicon exists, and it should be as flammable as other books. Just set the thing on fire and roast some hotdogs on the ashes, problem solved. Just don't put it on display at the local museum.

  • @QuantumWalker13

It's kind of a staple of Fantasy Horror that fire never makes anything better, especially in Lovecraftian horror - You'd kill something and spend the rest of your life knowing that somewhere out there strange beings walk in the shadows and in our very skin. Same would go for the book, or even set a whole bunch of nasty shit free when it turns to fleshy ash.

  • @Deckof51

Yeah I agree with you. Fire never makes anything better in horror. It's like having a seance and trying to burn a ouija board. On a serious note they should use white out on each of those pages so people can't read the book and get into trouble.

  • I miss the awesome animation of this era....The crap they're putting out now is just insulting.

  • @Misterunnamed

i agree todays cartoons are all hi colour/contrast cheap crap all a load of old B^$£^CKS

today i mostly watch hey arnold aaahhh real monsters

The Real Ghostbusters ren and stimpy the good x-men cartoons and anime/manga at least the japanese still pay attention to detail

  • PS, Dave Coulier replaced Lorenzo Music for I think the last two seasons. Arsineo Hall left at the same time I think.

  • Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu is the best!

  • Peeter is Garfield

  • @nataspihsrow1 Garfield and Venkman were both portrayed by Bill Murray in 2 movies and Lorenzo Music on TV. In this case, the movie came first, but with Garfield the opposite is true.

By the way, It's June 19th. It's my birthday. If you read Garfield today, you'll find that it's the yearly "birthday" strip. Every June 19th, Garfield has a birthday strip. This year even happens to be a Sunday.

    And it's father's day.

If you're a fan of Rey Mysterio Jr, you know what else 619 means.

  • In all fairness I don't think any way we spell Cthulhu is the right way, for fear of our fragile brains exploding.

  • That guy in the beginning failed his SAN check. ;)

  • back then the animation series were really better drawn then today....

    ...

    cool music at 6:14.......

  • tv show is better than the movie, who agrees?

  • is that the voice actor who does fred on scooby doo?

  • @midflder92

    And Megatron from Transformers.

    And Abu in Aladdin.

And actually Clark Ashton in this very cartoon. Frank Welker is a massively diverse voice actor, doing soft good guy voices as well as harsh bad guy voices, often conversing with himself.

  • 2:39 Somebody failed his SAN test ...

  • This was absolutely THE best drawn episode of the entire series. Especially at the end.

  • @Cen2050 I agree :) I like two, this and mrs rogers

  • These guys really did their homework on this. The Mythos is pretty accurate and there are a ton and a half of inside jokes. This gets three tentacles up from the Campus Crusade For Cthulhu, CSUEB Chapter...

  • radical! thnx for posting!!!!

  • i don't think they spelled it wrong on purpose. the target audience are/were 6-13 year olds, give or take a few years, so i can imagine them discussing how the kids would try to pronounce it, without out ever hearing it. the apostrophe would prob scare little kids.

  • Alright a Gozer reference very nice.

  • Ash from Evil Dead should have made an appearance on the show.

  • This makes me smile for some reason

  • i love the ghostbusters the beginning remind me of tmnt ???

  • "I didn't know the library did rock concerts."

    Oh Winston.

  • A shout out to all of those who were fortunate enough to grow up with the canon of 80's cartoon awesomeness!!! :D

  • Love the character named Ashton, a clear reference to Clark Ashton Smith, one of HPL's contemporaries

  • Part 2

Most of the deities and demons identified within probably have not been effectivly summoned in nearly six thousand years.

Ordinary exercisms and banishings have thus far proved extreamly inadequate; this, by experienced magicians........taken from a 1586 translation i have in my posession......whoops.....oh and to really worship cthulhu is to have ones self possessed by cthulhu so if you think you are really ready to step on the ladder of lights and do battle with the old ones....idiots

  • just a few things to correct a few people

lovecraft wrote alot about the necronomicon but he did NOT create any of it

cthulhu and everything to do with the necronomicon is real there are no effective banishings for the forces invoked in the necronomicon itself.

the rituals, incantations, formulae of this work are of ancient origin comprising some of the oldest written magickal workings in western occult history.

  • A completely fucked up spell book with its covered made in dried human skin and alien symbols written on it that could summon a monster so powerful we are no more than insects to it and which nothing would be able to stop it from a world ending madness inducing rampage where all of humanity would suffer a fate worse than death...

Yeah, put it on display, as if nothing could possibly go wrong.

  • if the developers need an idea for the next Ghostbusters game, they need to just watch this. The Ghostbusters vs the Great Old Ones? I would pay serious money for that!

  • Most epic opening of any of the awesome 80's cartoons.

  • 2:30 commense tentacle rape.

  • thumbs up if you were born in the late 90s and came here to watch a good cartoon not a shitty one on tv like spongebob!

  • @ChadTheWrestleManiac Uh, you do realize that Spongebob is a 90s cartoon right?

  • @ChadTheWrestleManiac I was born in the 80's and lucky as hell to be an 80's kid!

  • I know they had to change each character so they looked more cartoony, but is anyone going to mention how horrible egon's hair is?

    Seriously though. Great show.

  • @artfan101

What's wrong with his pompadour ^_^ At least it's not the stereotypical geek haircut with the side-parting ;)

  • wow im suprised they put as much attention to lovecrafitan lore in this show

  • oh dear god...i havent seen this...well the last time was the 80's...i watched this as a kid, and loved it...and then Lovecraft when i went to college and i became a huge fan....so to see this now

  • Wierd...at 1:55 to 2:01, did anyone notice that the sound effects used there seemed to be lifted right off John Carpenter's "The Fog"?

BTW, John Carpenter is also a Lovecraft fan. You can sense a bit of Lovecraft's influence in Carpenter's "The Fog" and also "In the Mouth of Madness".

  • Cathulhu sounds like what I would name my cat.

  • I love C´thulhu. I mean I know he and other mythical creatures aint real but I´m easily fascinated by such stuff.

  • Ya just know the guard at the beginning was a snack for the minions. In extreme Ghostbusters, which was nowhere near this shows level, they would have shown the guard alive and well. Cannot upset the kiddies of that generation, ya see.

  • Clark Ashton? As in Smith? Kewl :3

  • Check out my channel for Full Episodes of The Real Ghostbusters as well as other cartoons. Advertising is so hard =(

  • ghostbusters + cthulhu?! HOLY FUCKBALLS

  • cracked,com sent me here

  • I just noticed this, but in my copy, the episode name is printed onto the first shot of the museum, instead of the usual title card. Then again, my copy's off USA, so they probably edited it to save room for commercials :P

  • CTHULHU!? IMOSSIBLE! :o

  • this is easily the scariest kid show i saw growing up. Those tentacle monsters gave me nightmares when I first saw it years ago. Today, I'm a Lovecraft fanboy.

  • ghostbusters are my life

  • ok call me nuts but at 2:04 outside the window those sounds are from John CarpentersTHE FOG. Ive seen that movie enough times to know blake and his crew when i hear them.

  • Cthulu hmmm? The Only Cthulu I want is the Metallica's instrumental epic Call of Ktulu

  • i read the book this is based on. terrifying shit, and this episode does it extreme justice ^_^

  • Oh Shit! Cthulhi!?

  • Three people are not part of the cult of Cthulu

  • THIS IS AMAZING! I want this episode!

  • Miskatonic University in Arkham...Hmm, Batman versus Cthulhu anyone? That might explain the Joker I suppose...

  • Rays voice sounds like Fred on Scoobie-Doo. Wonder if its the same dude.

  • The Cthulhu spawn are freaking awesome!

  • Wait there was a ghostbusters animated series!!?!?!?!!!!! When was this!???

  • @arandomperson3 The 80s, you young whippersnapper.

  • ALL GLORY TO CTHULHU

  • I'm 7 yrs old again, LOVE the GHOSTBUSTERS.

  • @TamaraAndTheDemon cool i started watching gb at 5 im 12 now

  • Later at R'lyeh....

  • Crap copy-voiceacting, horrible animation, a complete perversion of everything Lovecraft ever wrote about.

    It's perfect.

  • is cthulu public domain? because thats awesome

  • @kirkenseth

Literature becomes public domain 70 years after the death of the author.

HP Lovecraft died in 1937, so when this cartoon was made it was not public domain yet. It is public domain now.

  • @imtheonlysane1here interesting, i didnt know that , thanks

  • He makes Gozer look like little Mary Sunshine...

    Movie reference FTW!

  • @corjonbett Did you notice the opening scence of the New York Public Library??? Direct movie scene/

  • I ABSOLUTELY love this!!! Thanks for posting =)

  • Thanks for putting it up. All hail Chtulu

  • cthulhu is real? like amyth? woooow i thot south park just made it up

  • lol peter sounds like garfield ;)

  • @DOOMVSHALO cuz its bill murrey he is GARFEILD!!!

  • @KylesNuclearFilms well that explains a lot ;)

  • @DOOMVSHALO lol if you like Bill Murrey you should watch zombieland its the best movie ever!

  • @KylesNuclearFilms lol beat you it ;) saw it at the cinema ages back, loved it

  • @DOOMVSHALO Cool! there making a zombieland 2 they just announced it!

  • @KylesNuclearFilms thanks didn't know so going to check it out

  • @DOOMVSHALO its not bill murray, but it IS the voice actor who did garfield

  • @Ocrisia83 ....known as Lorenzo Music.

  • 3 people are afraid of ghosts!

  • you spelled cthulhu wrong

also thumbs up if you worship cthulhu like me

  • @therealfirekirby I worship Cthuluhu - that's the name of my penis.

  • @therealfirekirby sadly, thats how they actually spelt the name.

  • @therealfirekirby actually it's meant to be Cathulhu, probably just to prevent any possible copyrights by H.P Lovecraft or something.

  • @Deathstorm501 thats bull, it would have been in the open domain by then right?

  • @rayblack2004 H.P. for the sake of time, began publishing in magazines in the early 20's, so I am not sure :/.

  • @rayblack2004 Well, this was a somewhat old series, and Lovecraft was writing sometime i believe in the 1900's, so... I don't think so.

  • @therealfirekirby if you truly worshiped cthulhu you wouldn't be saying it so overtly on the internet.

  • @kirkenseth Why not? He knows you wouldn't believe him anyways.

  • @therealfirekirby Hmm you are interesting. Don't worship anything from the Necronomicon

  • @therealfirekirby VIle heretic! Man cannot truly know the spelling of HIS name. The great and Dread Tulu shall reign down eons of madness upon this fragile shell! Look not for prophecy, seek not wisdom, BUT HIDE YOUR VERY MIND FROM HIS GREATNESS. TO KNOW HIS FACE IS TO KNOW MADNESS!!!!

  • @therealfirekirby Cthulu is mythical. If you went searching for the texts you would realize. It's not real. I went on a search...

  • @therealfirekirby

    Cthulhu is a faget.

    Hastur all day every day

  • @therealfirekirby You worship a fictional character written by HP Lovecraft? Ok. Well I guess that's no different than Christianity *duck*

  • @therealfirekirby dude, Tooloo is one of the acceptable spellings. Don't criticize :/

  • @therealfirekirby It was spelled like that in the original title of this episode.

  • @therealfirekirby no way, dude. Nodens, Lord of the Great Abyss, will destroy Cthulhu. Thumbs up anyway.

  • @therealfirekirby all hail godzilla wearing an octupus hat!

  • @therealfirekirby I worship Cthulhu too

  • @therealfirekirby

was that a joke or do you really worship him?

  • @therealfirekirby its nice to kno people believe in fiction.

  • @therealfirekirby Either spelling is acceptable. Look at wikipedia, he's got TONS of iterations of his name.

And if you truly worshipped Cthulu, you would give him his capital letter for his name and title.

  • @therealfirekirby : NO, Arkham House would not give the show permission to directly use the character Cthulhu, so they misspelled the name on purpose and made Cthulhu red. It was to avoid a big legal issue.

  • @Nagneto You'd think they'd make it a little less similar if they wanted to avoid a lawsuit. They go on to talk about a place called "Arkham", the copyright page, and paperback rights...kind of a slap in the face if they didn't have permission to use the character.

  • @newguy33X Not sure about when the episode was made, but its my understanding that - at least today - most Lovecraft stuff is in the public domain.

  • @therealfirekirby they didnt, the show spelt it like this

  • @therealfirekirby It's because of Lovecraft's trademark I think...

  • @therealfirekirby No, he spelt it as in the title of the episode. They used a slightly different name because like most Ghostbusters storylines it's their own take on something.

Besides, it's kind of pointless arguing over the spelling of a name that's supposed to be unsuited to human language :p

  • @Prophaniti666

Ghostbuster were wise to change the spelling, so as not to infringe the Dread One's copyright. It has helped their pitiful sanity survive for a little longer. Though not long, of course. I'ä! I'ä R'yleh!

  • @therealfirekirby No THEY spelled cthulhu wrong

  • @therealfirekirby The TV show originally spelled Cthulhu wrong

  • you spelled cthulhu wrong

  • Fail. Necronomicon is just pure fiction XD hahaha.

Hahaha. And The Satanic bible would be more fitting.. And the pentagram is on the wrong side up....

  • @schizomaybe Who cares if the Necronomicon is pure fiction? After all, the Ghostbusters are pure fiction too! :-D

And by the way, this episode is NOT the only Necronomicon citation in Ghostbusters. Read the Simon Necronomicon and you will find a reference to "dog-faced demons called utukku-XUL"... remind you of something?

  • Whoa. Hanna-Barbera voice acting.

The first guy who talks sounds just like Fred from Mystery Inc.

  • @tubeofyous thats because it's the same guy. Also Dino from Flintstones and Nibbler from Futurama.

  • References to Arkham, Miskatonic U, and accurate depictions of Cthulhu? I had totally forgotten how awesome this show was!

  • kids shows back in the old days were so much better than the stuff kids see today. ghostbusters was the shit!

  • Ghosbusters: the only children's show to feature the Necronomicon and mention H.P. Lovecraft.

  • The Necronomicon?! Someone say "Kalatu Barada Nicto!"

  • @JamesOhGoodie love the evil dead refrence, but that necronomicon was taken from hp lovecraft, and if you noticed the words ash was supposed to say where the words to disable to robot in the original the day the earth stood still

  • OMG I USE TO WATCH THIS SHOW WHEN I WAS A KID!!!! I can't believe i found it on youtube just now. if it wasn't for the fact that me and my cousen was watching GhostBusters the movie and started talking about it and the cartoons that followed and comic books got me to thinking and reminecing about my childhood got me to do a search for it. THANK YOU FOR POSTING.

  • @Chynaash It's also out on DVD.

  • Never trust a man who winks.

  • Damn, this is violent for a kids show...

  • Bill Murray got that guy fired...he said he didn't like his character sounding like Garfield.

  • @mark1mod0 And yet, years later, Bill Murray ends up playing the voice of Garfield in the movie. Interesting.

  • @BlackNGoldRules-it's funny because there is an entire Garfield/Ghostbusters Triangle going on. Bill Murray was in the Ghostbusters movie. Lorenzo Music was the original voice of Garfield and at the same time, had a role in The RG. And Frank Welker was also in The RG. Then, Bill Murray said Music sounded too much like Garfield. Then later, for the Garfield movie, Bill Murray did the voice of Garfield. Now Frank Welker does the voice of Garfield in the modern animated cartoons. Strange huh?
