I remember the film well and readily recognized Miss Price. What a voice!!! And, I would like to ditto a question, "who is that .... who dislikes this"? I won't say "stupid", but am surprised, because everyone has his/her personal tastes. Maybe it is not the singing but the film?
My favorite performing this this number is Leontyne Price; what a matchless diva.
@tebubba To be fair, this is a very bad recording of Dame Price. I always thought she was the greatest Soprano of all time. But I tell you, for me now, Mirusia Louwerse is maybe not taking her place, but standing on the same platform, on the same stage. Mirusia probably won't sing opera as a profession, but her voice is every bit as good as Leontyne's IMHO. She will be this century's Leontyne Price in Classical Music.
This to me is perhaps the most beautiful rendition of this aria. Ms. Price creates this unworldly sound and mood that it's no surprise that this director chose this recording. The images with Ms. Price singing are truly unforgettable. -- Just great singing, what else can be said.
While 'Aria' is a very mixed bag of a movie, this segment (along with 'Depuis le jour' and a couple of others) has haunted me from the first time I saw it in the theater on a rainy Seattle night. Both Price's singing and the bleak, compelling story line are absolutely unforgettable.

Beautiful ! But I feel Mirusia's performance of La vergine degli Angeli is the most beautiful I have ever heard. Also her Ave Maria.

Aria magnifique et bien servie par la Price. Le film est très beau aussi, même si je n'ai pas tout compris de l'histoire.
