  • Zapper101 was one of the dislikes -_-

  • Mana Khemia - Nefertiti

    Why not on the top?

  • Soooo why isn't one winged angel #1?

  • @Cloudstrife1188 because your a KH fangirl(even if ur a guy!)! Lol jk i has no beef with u OWA is a good theme

  • Awesome!

  • I heard that they arent going to make anymore FF Console games after 13-2...

I hope this horrible rumor that is false- I have been a gamer since 1984, and Final Fantasy is a small part of life that I really enjoy...so whats next? Is that it?

I hope I am not being a dick and scaring people, but this is making me wonder what they are coming up with.. :(

  • @RubicantX Since FF6 they were all pretty much overated anyway. FF7 being the worst of the whole series.

  • @RubicantX

they should still make games, but slow down production and put a greater emphasis on quality. since they made the transition to 3d games their quality has fallen a lot.

maybe they should take a lesson from Nippon Ichi, they still use sprites and their games are fantastic... grindy as hell but fantastic and often humorous plotlines.

  • Every monster is kneeling

  • Mystic Quest was metal as FUCK.

  • One word. Eargasm.

  • 7 people couldn't beat the first boss on this game which btw they just lost!

  • @NintendoVeteran85 This game challenged some people, including me when I got to Pazuzu and beyond...But then again, I also beat 7th Saga with relative ease, so I am the master of these games!

Now bow down to the next Shah of Iran- Yazdgerd IV!

  • Giant Fiest

  • I loved Mystic Quest back in the day

  • Turnbasedcombat.exe has stopped working.

  • I have so many fond memories of this game I LOVE IT!!

  • I DEMAND YOU REMOVE THE WORD "HARDCORE" FROM THE NOTES IN THAT VIDEO~! THIS MUSIC IS WHATS CALLED "POWER METAL".

it came about in 1983 by the german speed metal band Helloween. but dont compare Helloweens style of power metal with this. search for songs by a band called Celesty in their album Reign of Elements.

AGAIN, THIS IS NOT HARDCORE. ITS BOMBASTIC!

  • This is definitely deserving of #1. All the music in Mysic Quest was amazing.

  • One of the best themes ever for sure.

  • Awesome music, didn't like the game however...

  • Not 8 bit? xD whatever. played it some days ago on emulator. great game!

  • Badass

  • Man, I remember this song always pumped me for the bosses, epic!

  • that good ole 16-bit music.........good times....its something about 16 bit music that makes a game feel like a GAME.....only in final fantasy

  • Cant believe ive only just heard this for the first time tonight on a LP video. And i call myself a final fantasy fan =(

  • @AdamC316 No worries, this is much more of a spinoff with the US audience in mind unlike other FF spinoffs.

  • @Zapper101

I guess you could call it a spin-off, but other than the odd sequel, most of the games have nothing to do with each other.

  • @Zapper101 Baby's First RPG is how I've heard it described multiple times. Holds true too, since when I was 8 this game and Mario RPG were what got me started on RPGs.

  • @Zapper101 The Japanese game companies thought / think we are dumb. well maybe I am, but I can still play final fantasy damn it! (this was final fantasy kindergarten, which is cool too, a neat way to get people into it)

  • @jdspencer60 This was my first rpg ever , i was probably about 7 or 8 years old was so hooked lol, even bunked off school pretending to be sick to play it. :D lol i suppose this is what started my interest in rpgs although i never completed many.

  • @AdamC316 HCBAILLY FAN!!!!!

  • @Normansmight lol! Busted xD

  • @AdamC316 yeah cause i was like. wait a second....i just heard this for the first time on an LP! ...im addicted

  • This game's soundtrack (and especially this song) proved two major things for its time: 1) you do not have to be Uematsu to crank out an amazing Final Fantasy soundtrack, and 2) the SNES could rock out hardcore (see Pokey Means Business from Earthbound for another example of the latter point). I support your decision to place this theme as #1, even if some of the other songs are a bit more epic.

  • click click click cast escape -> win

  • Do you have a link to download your compilation?

  • I think you meant to say Uematsu had NO involvement....

  • how the bloody hell did i forget how freakin awesome this game was?! it was the first final fantasy game i ever played and the only game i played on snes besides mario and zelda!

  • yeh. seriously epic music. too bad the gameplay wasn't on par

  • nice, but my fav is Heat of Battle <3

  • I Might not be old as you guys here (im 16).

But when i hear a master piece theme song (even if retro)

    I can't help but FRIGGING LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Dont u agreee??????

  • this sounds like any megaman boss theme. Best boss themes are in the megaman games (Especially x series)

  • Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2 use this style too, well, for battles at least, though the soundsets themselves are quite different.

  • eargasm :O

    ITS SO EPIC

  • Somebody is finally doing it right

  • This really is the best boss theme of all time.

  • The awesome game with awesome midi arrangement. almost heard like MP3 LOL

    the composer is epic

  • I played this a couple years ago because my friend wanted all of his SNES games beaten (like 100+) I started one day before class and beat it the next day while skipping class. It may be the easiest, fastest RPG I've ever played, but I have absolutely no idea what the story was even about.

  • @rickjamesia

the game had a story? Never noticed. I just know its about a guy who goes around kicking ass, occasionally someone tags along and you end up kicking the Dark King's ass, and sailing away on someone else's boat.

  • Awesome song. Mystic Quest had great music.

  • THE boss theme!

  • Sorta embarrassingly, this was my first Final Fantasy. I liked it because it reminded me of Dragon Warrior/Quest. Of course I was blown away by Final Fantasy 3/6, my NEXT RPG, but it still holds a special place in my heart, and it has great music, too. The boss music helped you get really pumped up.

  • LOL, I dont understand why ppl bother so much to complain about someone PERSONAL favorite list of whatever.

  • Oh my god, i remember this game!

it was like the sword of mana series AND final fantasy >.< I loved it

  • YES. I'm not the only one who thinks this game had the best music. The drums and other parts are just insane on this game.

  • Awesome top 3 I have to say. All different and unique. Catchy/Intense, Stylish and Epic are all good words to dscribe 1,2 and 3 respectively.

  • When i saw the music i went WTF, but the game is not bad... i think :)

  • die mucke war so der burner :D cräääänk!!

  • You get the prize.

  • I love this type of music. So fast-paced and extreme, it's like rock in 16-bit.

  • so this is what happens when Megaman X meets FF

  • hey he looks like bartz from ff5 :)

  • This is a pretty solid track, havent played the game..Cant imagine this made in slightly higher quality it would be BEAST.

  • all i have to say is i jizzed alittle..

  • This is GOLD!

  • this is pretty awesome, reminds me of dragons lair for the SNES for some reason...

  • I think its more than nostalgia that keeps this song sounding awesome its actually a very solid rock song in its own right. I mean listen to it the thing has a good beat, a catchy riff, a melody line, bout the only thing its missing is a solo! (if it does have one just correct me its been a while since i played it)

They must have got a real band to pop in and write the song

  • Never played Mystic Quest, but I'm thinking I should now

  • I liked this song, but personally I liked the Dark Kings theme better.

  • I TOTALLY MISS SNES GAMES DX

  • You have a good taste of game Music. Mystic Quest Legends (So it was called in my Country) is on of my favorite RPG's. Okay, the last Boss is just too easy when u use the normal Heal Spell with your Main Character on him. But that game got a good Difficult and Music together.

  • S&A... Simple and Awesome!

  • I find it REALLY hard to beleive this is 16-bit...O_O

  • I think this is my favourite boss music too! I agree, the catchy, almost rock music is unique and very cool.

  • Deserves to be at the top.

PS: where is the clash on the big bridge theme man !? :@

  • Never played it, but immediatly like it. :)

  • @MyTrashy OMG dude,play It immedeatly!Best spin-off ever made!

  • @36256564874847848487 Still havn't buyed it.

  • @MyTrashy I don't bought that game too,I just downloaded an emulator and this game.

  • @36256564874847848487 With that I mean I still don't own it.^^

  • @MyTrashy Just download that game from google.

  • Ah, this brings back memories.ice choice, I kinda agree with you here.

  • FFMQ is VERY underrated, IMO. I had a blast playing it. If one plays it just expecting a really fun game, and not something as grand as a FF game, then they will enjoy it. This game had some of the greatest battle themes ever. I personally prefer the final boss theme over all, but this theme is amazing.

  • Agreed... this is an awesome one...

fear the 32 bit powah !!

  • @Drachenxx

    16-bit...

  • @Drachenxx

    You mean 16-bit power?

  • This is such a fucking awesome song, only topped by the final boss theme of the game.

  • Yeah FF4 was my first RPG too, so I also have a special bias for it. Unfortunately, I hated Mystic Quest with a fiery passion, so I was really surprised to see this as your #1. Of course, this is your list, so its all good :)

  • haha i played this way back when, the last boss was so easy just use cure and he is fucked

  • Ha, oh yeah, I remember playing this, I always liked the boss/battle music in this game and I still do.

I think this was my first RPG.

  • same was my first rpg and didnt know it had anything to do with FF. Pretty bad game tbh but the music was awesome!

  • K, stop this feud. Any further comments from anyone on this string of replies get deleted.

  • @Zapper101 VIDEOGAME...MUSIC....YOUR WRONG.

  • @nahor23 I thinkhe means dominant cuz FF7 is overrated lololololol

  • Yeah I just couldn't get into the other boss themes but this one is like chocolate to my ears. Crunchy sweet tasty chocolate. Mmmmm....

  • @nahor23

I have played plenty of games, and final fantasy games always have the dominant sound track. go look it up, i was watching xplay one day and FF7 got rlly good reviews cuz of its music and the storyline.

  • @Mage13246 Too bad FF7 is overrated.

  • @ZblueboltZ

Yeah keep thinking that, it's still one of the most popular Playstations games out there (amazingly). Final Fantasy has a lot of music that keeps going through the game and the long boss fights. Hell, I'd keep playing it cuz of the music.

  • To each their own and all but still, there is more than just Final Fantasy music out there as I've been trying to prove, and even if something is popular and well-rated, some still may not like it so let that be. Let's just start any feuds.

PS: Only info I seem to find about X-Play regarding VII is that your childhood sucks video.

PS2: My favorite game OST is Ys: The Oath in Felghana :3

  • @Mage13246 thats because it's overated and everyone buys it. unfortunatly I dislike one winged angel andf the boring parts where it's literally a line to play through, the parts where you basically go to clouds fake and real past. Every player agrees that they wanna do stuff and not be bored.

  • @ZblueboltZ

You say it's over rated but I say it's still one of the best out there. You are basically stating the wrong reasons why ppl enjoy the game. People enjoy it cuz of the music and story. If that is not true then I guess people must hate The Black Mages.

  • @MrPsyStorm mother 3 is better than FF7

  • MQ was a VERY basic RPG. But fun as hell.

    And the music rocked.

  • Sephiroth? Kujas final battle theme ;'(?

  • I approve of your number one by far

  • sick i am gonna play this ff i have to play them all ff junky 4life

  • We got a lot of Final Fantasy haters here.

  • I always like listening to Seymour's theme and dancing mad. One-winged angel is good too.

  • whose been derating my comments? Lol it's true that Final Fantasy Music is the best.

  • Cool opinion, bro.

  • i really love this song, but i like "the decisive battle" (FFVI) more

  • Hmm... i feel like there are 1) a lot of games missing from this list and 2) some of your rankings are a bit off when it comes to things, but it's a mostly solid list.

Not sure how i feel about this being number 1 compared to everything else, but we all have our own opinions.

I'd suggest you check out some other people's lists (mine included lol) and see if maybe there are some games you did not know about, musically.

  • the text pieces go to quick dude -.-

  • Great song. And I think you meant to say Uematsu DIDN'T have any factor in this song. You might wanna fix that.

  • I had this game for SNES and LOVED it. I must have played through it 5 or 6 times.

  • HEAVY METAL BOSS MUSIC FTW!!!! Like you said, this was one of my first RPGs. Back then I was currently playing games like FF1 and DW3 so when I picked this up for the first time it blew me away! Thanks for the great posts!

  • Man, I agree with you, I've loved this song since I was just little... nostalgia... I completely forgot about this, and you, my good sir, have caused me to remember a great game with great music. It's too bad our old copy has a nasty habit of deleting the save files =/

  • Hey! You should have had "Awkward Justice" from Tales of the Abyss on here. :P

I certainly won't argue that you chose a terrific song for number one though! The list just needs a *little* more Tales Of.

  • Love this theme!

  • Ahhh the memories, I remember as a wee lad hearing this for the first time, I turned up the tv and literally pressed my ear to the speaker.

    good times

  • Nostalgia indeed.

  • This game was epic

  • OH MY GOD!

FINALLY! I found the name to this game! I've remembered bits and pieces of it, but I could never remember the name of the game!

Then, when I saw the cover on this game... I said to myself, "This is it... the game I've been searching for..." Thank you so much...

  • I like this game since it was simple and they didn't cram 10000 things into it.

  • It's funny, the appearance of a boss taking damage at intervals is something that most games still haven't embraced as they probably should. This game is responsible for my never again putting my faith in a review, and testing games based on my own research.. with many positive returns.

Very underrated game, great soundtrack that I still listen to once in awhile. Heck, I even play the game every now and then.

  • What I thought was cool was that the weaker the boss got, the more damaged it got. For example, the Bone Dragon. The closer and closer to being defeated it got, the more collapsed it'd look. Of course that also allowed for special attacks to be done at certain phases of the boss fight as well.

  • Truly one of the greatest boss themes in the history of video games.

  • ^^

    This.

  • This game is really underrated. I found this game almost more entertaining than any of the other Final Fantasy's I've played.

It's simple, fun, and straightforward. My second playthrough which was like a year ago had absolutely no grinding for experience, everything you need is right there for you as long as you fight every enemy in every room on your first time there. Overcomplications like the required grinding are what turns me off. This game had NONE.

    Straightforward, and rocking out.

  • @BBoyFureyu Even Final Fantasy VI? O_O

  • @BBoyFureyu

    ...Grinding is complicated?

  • @BBoyFureyu Basically since almost everything didn't require beating a monster is some respect (but rather the main quest) it's a good idea to simply have resources found within challenges not given by fights such as the main quest or perhaps puzzles, yes? (Like how you needed to bomb some walls for extra resources)

  • i love this tune hey men . use sendspace :]

and add all song for doanload :]

  • I love this Boss Music. =)

  • Oh man, I loved this game, it might not have been my first RPG, but damn, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't enjoy it, and towards the end, it was pretty epic. This boss battle theme was awesome too, as was the whole soundtrack in general. I can see why you chose it to be #1.

  • Its funny, when i first played this game, I didn't think it was too good. But I wanted to see if the boss battles were any good, and when I made it to that Bone Dragon, and heard this song, I NEEDED TO FINISH THE GAME! EPIC SONG! XD

  • He looks like Bartz...

  • thats what i named him =\

  • lol, and with good reason...

  • It used to be butz. :Z

  • SERIOUSLY??!!!!

    ROFL!!!

  • MQ, like Secret of the Stars, was a rather average game with a stellar soundtrack. (disagree as you will, some tracks in SotS are fucking beautiful)

I never hated this game, though, except for Pazuzu's tower and Pazuzu himself.

    Pazuuuzuuuuuuu!

  • "some tracks in SotS are fucking beautiful"

Fucking agreed. The Upperworld theme was just amazing. :D

  • Kustera and the 4 Followers battle songs stand out in my opinion.

The Actos Shrine and the sad village music (plays in Hidon) are great songs, too. And the circus song always makes me grin.

  • This game was awful. But the music was easily the best in the entire FF series. Even the normal battle theme was good.

  • heck yeah!!!!!!! :D i f'in loved this game. :)

  • Ah, Mystic Quest, my very first J-RPG ever. remember the time I played it on my Super Nes on the living room, I still was a kid, but I was a great time.

After years without playing it I've tried again, it was difficult (not to get my eyes metled), but the pleasure was exactly the same.

  • If you ask for my opinion, Mystic Quest isn't much of a great game... but it has some of the most wicked BGMs ever... gotta love Ryuji Sasai's style. I also loved Rudra no Hihou's BGM for the same reason

  • I love your videos, but it amazes me that you didn't include boss themes from classics like FF6.

Your opinion I guess, but hey.

  • cus ff7 sucks balls

  • I.. I.. didn't see FF7 or FF9 boss theme on there.....

  • there is an ff7 song on 37.

  • A lot of people seemed to hate this game, but it's instantly one of my favorites. There are some flaws, but there are flaws to every great game, and this isn't an exception.

This is definitely my favorite song on the entire game. I even have it on my iPod. Aaaah, nothing like being 6 again and beating the tar out of a giant squid...

  • i still have this game for the snes the story was sooo awesome i loved it

  • waaaaaah! not better?!

  • I still have the game with the official Walkthrough Guide, a great game I'd like to go throught once more someday

  • Nostalgia for me? BIG TIME!! These old school RPG classics by square soft always have a speical place. I have a wii now, and I have seen the FF games on play stations. to me the final fantasy gamse of the 90s are a league of their own. I miss playing them. FFMQ was the first game I played, but I actually beat FFIV/II first.

  • Did Nobuo Uematsu compose this?

  • *points to description* nope, but fair mistake though.

  • This reminds me strongly if the wanderers of Y's III music.

  • i, in a way, agree with you here... though if it was just themes in general, would you have put dark castle on?

  • Well I'm doing a dungeon theme countdown if you have not noticed. You'll see. ;3

  • This game was developed in Square America and the differences definately show that.

  • hell yes. I cracked a smile as i looked down the playlist and noticed the little image... you sir, have an excellent taste in music.

  • I have got to say.

This is the most legendary, memorable and fitting pieces of boss music Nobou Uematsu has written.

Even if you aren't sure you can defeat the boss.

This song comes on and fills you with a kind of bizarre Zeal!

It lights a fire inside you and makes you think.

    This guy is goin' DOWN!!!

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

    ......

    At least i think i does :P
