  • I turn off my monitor only because it's an LED, and put my desktop into sleep. Only because I am a junkie on conservation of energy.

  • @4illegalalien I do the same thing, But I don't re boot in the morning.

  • 1:07 is the Answer :D

  • i never turn mine off cuz im hosting servers

  • i think its un necessary to expose the computer to the internet for prolonged periods of time because if you have the same ip address for a long time it becomes a security risk

on any high speed cable network it takes 3 seconds after you get a connection and any good firewall will register an attack and if you leave it on for longer the rate in witch these attempts occur increase

i currently use Ipfire as my network gateway and it registers between 10,000/20,000 intrusion attempts on Shaw Cable

  • i sometimes leave my computer on for weeks at a time

  • @gdialpha same, i get no problems, i usually put it into power saving mode.

  • heres my question (IS IT SAFE TO JACK OFF DURING THE DAY WHILE MY PARENTS ARE HOME?)

  • Long as your kind of enough to set your computer to go to sleepmode while your ass is sleeping.

It'll save power and ensure your computer relaxes itself, rather than getting hot, cold until it eventually goes out.

  • google chrome vs maxthon

    Mozilla Firefox vs Mozilla IceWeasel

Windows 7 vs MAC OS X

  • How can you be giving out technical advice when you miss out the fundamentals? Leaving your computer on overnight will degrade your components as they would naturally degrade from casual use. Especially the power supply unit. This is the first thing to go if you are leaving your machine on 24/7.

I left my machine on for about 4 years. PSU broke. Luckily it didn't take anything out with it.

  • I want a vid on how to keep your Pc/ laptop cool

  • If you don't run Windows Updates along with running a Antivirus/Firewall combo, you could be sleeping with someone digging through your stuff. But here's what I don't get...hacking can be fun, but in all reality there's usually nothing worth wild on most of the people's computers that I see (I don't hack...I fix ppls machines through remote and ssh).

  • lol he looks like pruane2forever

  • NO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT YOU POWER HUNGRY AMERICANS. (Think of the polar bears... Sad Face)

  • @JonnyDude2009 FUCK the government. they're in bed with the world banks, NWO, tri lateral commission and think it's ok to spend tax dollars on their food and travel expenses to worship a giant statue of a fucking owl that they nicknamed a another name for the devil. Meanwhile jobs are outsourced. illegal immigrants get free healthcare and every year america's debt keeps climbing. hyper inflation is NOT an IN DEMAND item that the world wants to trust or trade with. FUCK the government!

  • You don't interact with the community as much as you used to.

  • i leave my pc at night and next morning i had 1 virus it was from hell lol?

  • I know it's not exactly good for the earth but more often than not, my computer is on at night. In fact, I find it very difficult to sleep without the noise of my CPU fan. I don't put my computer to sleep though... Because that's usually when I do updates, anti-virus/malware scans and other maintenance. The Monitor definitely goes off though because I'm currently using a CRT and it runs hotter than my CPU.

  • i think you should not leave it on at night...just take it of cuz ur not using it

  • Absolutely no problem - you'll just have bigger electricity bills and MAYBE the parts will wear out quicker than they might if you shut down, but no real big deal.

  • but its not eco friendly :(

recomend the sleep funktion. it boots fast and dont drink too much energy

  • No,its not safe..porn will pop up XD

  • eehhhhh shworld uv shworcraft.

  • i never turn it off idc if it does dmg it

  • i set my pc to sleep after 30 mins

  • i've been leaving my computer on for 12+ hours for the past 2 years and nothing has happened yet.

  • not safe it gonna burn

  • @DontstopxLT if ur talking about the screen then i suggest changing because modern screens dont burn so easily and thts wat screensavers r for

  • @DontstopxLT It won't.

  • Thanks for this, chris. I'm building a desktop and I'm not sure if I should keep it on at night.

  • unless a burglar came in then ur in deep crap

  • What about my Windows 98 that has sleep mode?

  • wow my dog died the day he put this video up thats neat lol

  • hey dude, but if you leave ion at night, doit wastes ram, so you have to reastrt the system

  • is it safe to leave a laptop on at night?

  • it ok to leave it on unless you have been living under a rockand still are using windows 95 which get overloaded and shut down atleast once every 24 hours

  • ok i got a question would u no how to fix a blue screen that displays

    Stop 0×0000007A KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR Win32k.SYS

  • That means either your hard drive or RAM is hosed. For your hard drive, run Check Disk with surface checking and repair enabled. For RAM, download Memtest, make a boot CD and run that.

  • no becouse i have win64k.sys and not win32k.sys

  • GET LAID PLEASE~!

  • I sometimes leave my pc on a night when i'm downloading A LOT of stuff. Never had problems with it

  • You dont need 6GB ram on a fucking laptop. You have 32 bit OS so your PC cant physically use more than 4gb. (A bit less acctualy)

And the 2 drives you see is acctualy 1 drive that is cut in half, So on 1 disk you have windows (Usually its very small) and on the other you have your personal crap.

  • actually my windows 7 supports only 2.something GB of ram

  • 3.86498 gb actualy

  • ok I have a Gateway laptop MD7818u Intel Core 2 Duo Laptop with 4GB of RAM and i was wondering if I can upgrade the ram to like 12GB or 6GB , Also when i bought my laptop it says it has 500GB and when i Check for the memory storage section it has two separate Hard Disks one says OS and the one Says Data but I dont know if you can combine them to have one main hard drive.

  • Google it.

But it basically depends- the highest the 32 bit windows operating systems can handle is 4GB.

But, if you get the 64 bit windows operating system, it's 12gb i believe.

But, it depends, most laptop motherboards only support up to 4 gb.

  • no you kan have up to 186 gb of ram in a 64 bit

  • Really? Well, that's cool :D

  • you can use up tp 16 terrabyte of ram in a 64 bit system but this will take some time until we will need this...

  • nope your waaaaaaaaayyy off

  • The last I knew, 64-bit OSes can have 2 TB of RAM. We just don't have enough memory spaces on motherboards XD

  • my comp has been on for like 3 month only off for restarts after updates and it is bad on ur comp to keep turning off and on it's bad on the internal hardware

my runs very smooth and fast and i hardly turn it off

  • Well, your pc may randomly bsod overnight if left idle on SOME pc's..

  • I only leave it on if I'm downloading something, like through Utorrent, but even then I can shut it off automatically when it's done.

  • LOL 1:08

  • its safe, but help the environment by switching it off!

  • Fuck the environment.

  • @MarilynMansonMedia I have to agree to a reasonable extent with your " fuck the environment" statement on pirillo's video" is it safe to leave your pc on a night". waht all these tree humpers and environmentalist forget is..this planet earth has been alive for more than 400 million or billion ( i forgot which) years. versus humans=a few hundred thousand. this planet has been through a 1000 times more horrific things than humans have put it through. it will shake us when it's ready like fleas

  • i keep mine on at i dont want to wait for it to load

  • i leave mine on. i just is too impatient for it to turn on. and when it wakes up from sleep, the sound is messed up and full screen things like yt videos and battlefield are visually messed up.

  • i use to leave it on at night, usually left it downloading/scanning.

im surprized he didnt mention power surges.

  • I say no! I got a trojan horse and If I leave it on they can control my pc.

Also if someone has a virus and can kick in at that time!

  • solution, do a virus scan and remove the trojan you dumb ass

  • I kinda think he'd a tried it if he's a 'pc geek' or he may not be good at computers at all only thinks he is.

  • @JackDyson1995 Solution, get a mac :)

  • @iapplecentral omg. here we go again. another fanboy. Truth=MAC'S GET VIRUSES ALSO. They are not problem free. ( ftr i own a macbrook pro, win 7 pro 64 bit machine i custom built, and a custom built Ubuntu 10.04 machine) It's 99% of the time about HOW the end user uses the computer. If the person uses COMMON SENSE and stays away from porn sites, bit torrent download sites, and any sites that just seriously look suspect( it's not hard to pick these out), then they will be problem free.

  • @chronofusion uhh jeez, i apologize for my parters fanboyness...i am trying to stop him from being one but, alas, i can't. I on the other hand, completely agree with you. I also know macs can get viruses, it is just harder because of the coding and the fact that not many people make viruses for mac. I also have 4 windows computers and have never gotten a virus.

  • OWNED

  • Thanks mate for that information, it was kind of you to upload a video JUST to answer that question.

I'm just wondering though, If I have an 8600GT, and I JUST make it through the minimum required PSU, will my PC not be safe If I leave that on all night?

  • Yeah, it'll BSOD/your PC will randomly turn off. You'll know.

  • its safe, as long as your computer isnt super beefy. if almost everything is overclocked and you have almost no fans, then yeah, dont leavw it on at night.

  • I leave my desktop on standby during the day and turn it off at nights.... On my laptop I use Hibernation but I do restart it everyday to get system restore to create a restore point in case things go wrong. My Thought: Its up to you...If you want to be safe from hackers just disable your network adapter or turn it off. Desktop:On during day/Off during night. Laptop-Hibernate/One restart everyday or two.

  • Yes, but for the love of god turn it off if it's not doing somthing.

the potentual damage physical from not turning it on is about as high as the risk from turning it of and on the whole time.

  • I put mine on Standby/Sleep/Hibernate, whatever you wanna call it, every night to save power.

  • i was "knocked on" one time and was given a REALY BAD BUG is recked my hard drive so bad that it would not work any more i have got that three 5 times to after the fith time and many hard drives later i get a fire wall..lol

  • Why not get a firewall in the first place.... You can get them for free... Zonealarm

  • I watched Chris record this, great check out his live show love it

  • It's safe, I just keep my PC off when I'm out of town, or to clean up. My power Bill bill has made no big change really when I've had it off for weeks when I go on trips. But Chris is right, off, on, off on all day is going to kill the life time of the PC. People who are paranoid about some one is going to hack them while they sleep lol, just unplug the DSL,cable or what ever you may use at night soon as your done for the day. That way you can rest easy

    Ian

  • I wouldn't

  • It's safe, but it's not green ;)

  • How come I don't see your show anymore? What do you do know? Just asking...

  • JPIMP says YES!

  • I leave it on 24/7

  • sweet! i watched him record this, and now im the first viewer! in his live chat i am mlbird_1992
