  • Totally agree with this and the work of Mr Wales, especially after I heard the (no doubt elitist) retaliation of the Encyclopedia Britannica with regards to the relative infiltration of Wikipedia to mainstream audiences over the last couple of years or so. It was seemingly all about 'business' when in reality it works greater when free of such constraint.

  • its so amazing how far wikipedia has come. i didn't know it would last to be quite frank.

  • I like your guest man and your work.

  • Ron Paul 2012

Bet Paul's wikipage gets the most hits more than Obama

  • "Amateurs"? No, Wikipedia is IMHO full of professional teachers that write on Wikipedia in order to get free texts for their education. We amateurs contribute by writing stupid questions and fixing layout issues.

  • Wikipedia is down worldwide since the 21 / 22 Jan. They say its overheated servers but what's the chance that all would go down including backups? Something strange is happening. Imagine if all that data is lost? Some people are even saying they are going to restrict the internet; probably because the truth gets out.

  • @miravatv why?

  • Excellent and very useful interview, Mark. Thank you! ~ e

  • A shame Wikipedia's admin are such ignorant ***holes.

  • asdlkfjlkdsjfoiewrofdgkjhdfjvkjkjfdgkjdsf no this is not spam i just dont give a fuck

  • Library of Alexandria in my bedroom?

    Yes please.

Thank you for this amazing contribution to humanity.

  • This guy needs to stop pestering people for money.

  • @gallowspole oh...the hatred of the good is alive and well.

  • Isn't being "credentialist" inherent in being paid for what you do? If you contribute, if you improve, you need to reap the benefits of your production and ...in some wave shape or form, credential must exist. The Open Source paradigm should extend to every area of human civilization, but it should reinforce and reinvigorate the economy and individuals ..not shatter it.

  • The Open Source paradigm makes more information available and drastically cuts costs of obtaining any information.

If you want to talk economics, the contributors get utility through the satisfaction of doing a community service. Even if there is no monetary reward for specific contributions, you get rewarded indirectly by having free unlimited access to all other information available on Wikipedia.

  • That my friend is god dam communist! I will not stand for it you red!

  • Free flow of information is not communism. Get your facts straight.

  • Thanks you so much for understand. It is like this too. Communist is a good idea in theory only.

  • google Filll (yes 3 L's) on wikipedia and see why it sucks

  • No wonder why wikipedia is such a nasty propaganda machine. It is as if spokesperson of Armenia. But i dont care. Long live Turkia. and Fuck armenia fuck wikipedia.

  • Wales is neither the founder of Wikipedia, nor the Chair of the Wikimedia Foundation.

  • I guess the fact that the guiding philosophy and drive behind wikipedia is open source, it leaves little room for elitist beating of the chest. Look at the leaders of other large open source movements...Gosling, Torvalds.. these guys never claim anything for themselves, rather, they claim a community effort.

  • Wonderful work Mr. Wales. You have influenced the world ...

    Wow, that is just awesome!

  • YAY OBJECTIVISTS!

  • Love his beard...suits him so well...maybe I could get a date with him?! He's so good in that interview. I love you Jimmy!

  • thanks Mark

  • I love to watch a video like this and comment down below it then, makes me feel so clever. And yes, that was sarcasm.

  • Wikipedia rocks! Great stuffs there!

  • Amazing interview. Jimmy Wales is so likeable and proves someone can be successful without being elitist! Great job Mark.
