no doubt sonu is very talented..but off late he has developed dis habbit of putting lots of vibrato in songs..just listen carefully and u will know wat im saying..vibrato shd come natural and with a flow but sonu is putting lots of fake vibrato and expressions in such songs..I love his understanding of music..i also love his songs but..........

Sony Nigam is one the greatest singer of ASIA. His sound, performance, pitch quality is amazing. I have seen many live shows in New York, Houston of different singers. But, Sonu never gets flat in his singing. He is a versatile singer. GOD Bless Him... fantastic singer no one can do this kind of live remix. It requires such an experience and energy.

It is actually not call 'alap' either. alap is a totally rythmless style based upon free elaboration of the raga, usually in the introductory part of a song.

But it is certainly not a 'remix'. That is a completely different thing.

@uptothe The level of complication involved in both the western and Indian music is so vastly different. I agree that ours is much much more complicated. But you can never say that our singers are better. We will only know if the western singers sang Indian music. Who knows ? There can be an immensely talented Caucasian who can sing better than many veteran Indian singers. But we will never know because they grow listening and learning inferior music .

i agree with the yesudas part. not with sonu tho. at least, udit is as good as sonu. and dont forget the great great s p bala subramanyam - ever heard of shankarabharanam. his voice is devine. also shankar mahadevan?! he is impecccable. too bad he decided to be a composer. his voice may not be as heroic/cinematic sonu, but he is technically more sound than sonu nigam. but ya yesudas is the uncrowned vocal king in india at the momement.

udit narayan is talented but din exploit it well enough..but sonu can improvize, coz he learned music(hindustani in this case). Sp balasubramanyam is amazing too but some times his voice lacks melody.  shankar mahadevan , hariharan, sukwinder , ,,they r all of the same class.but yea it all changes from person to person...

as far as udit goes, i wouldnt really compare him with sonu based on the level of modulations and variations sonu gives to his songs. its basically the difference in singing style. with udit's thick and strong voice, its tough to take dramatic vatiations in the flow of song where as sonu's voice is soft and slender, so he can maneuver it at will. i would compare udit's style and voice to kishore da. kishore kumar had the same limitation since his voice was pretty thick...

udits voice has more bass n is more veratile. ITs deep n melodious, but he can't sing gamakas(microtones) unlike sonu coz he is not much trained in music. remember his first song, papa kaite hein- he clearly was out picth at points..One thing about indian music is th;t, if u knw the raaga, emotions r naturally born, u dun have to create it. th'ts wxactly wh't sonu is doin..

He has rendered his voice for all indian languages except 2of em ( also in english n arabic). he has done highest number of stage performance in all over the place n india- higher than any other indian singer. He was invited to perform for USSR radio. more than 20 state awards in diff languages. ..sung more than 44000 songs so far...
