What it must have been like to live back in the 1940s. Planes with props, big band music, Hollywood turned out good movies and the actors and actresses actually had talent. Everything back then was american made and had real style.
@kilzwes no, not the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp. According to Wikipedias information the Connies were equipped with Wright R-3350 Duplex Cyclone radials. Each engine rated 3,250 hp. That's quite impressive for a 1940's aircraft, isn't it? :-)
@mr867749 The 049 and C-69 had the R3350 BA series Duplex Cyclone, which produced 2200 BHP. The 649+749 had BD-1 engine which produced 2500 BHP. The basic 1049 had the CB1 engine which produced 2800 BHP. The 1049C/D/E/G had the DA1 or DA3 Turbo-compound engine which produced 3250 BHP. The 1049H and 1649 had the EA series Turbo-compound engine which produced 3400 BHP.
Would just like to point out that this aircraft is owned and operated by HARS. Qantas have nothing to do with it, and actually refused HARS permission to use their name on the aircraft.
the sound of pratt and whittany s or other round engines, will wake me up, i live in south florida and they are used for mosquito spraying, they usually fly right on top of the trees, what skill they have, the hueys too that do the same thing
If you move a few degrees from ANY POINT point in a sphere around the Connie, you suddenly be surprised from viewing a shape you didnt wait (I think it is because of its curved lines ) . That remembers Leonardo´s Mona Lisa ! Which object -in modern world living- have such a performance in space ?
@miguelmouta I am a rare person in having been intimately acquainted with Connies--worked on them, flown them as copilot and flight engineer, --and also am a psychologist. How can beauty be explained logically? I don't think it can be done. It can only be experienced. The Constellation is the "Mona Lisa" of the sky. It is the finest example of industrial art ever. Now 55, I've been in love with Connies since age 12. All those Eastern Super Connies flying overhead climbing out from LGA did it!
Qantas will have nothing to do with her, in case she crashes, I know cos i was a member and have flown a few times in her......

Flew in one of these when I was a kid. Those radials always put me to sleep. Love the harmonics from the 4 engines.
