  • If would be a zombie apocalipse i would use a atomic bomb

  • Upside to compound bows is that you can hold them forever. What draw is this bow?

I shoot traditional bows, i pull the bow with my palm in. Is there an advantage to pulling it with your palm out, if any? Do you see down the shaft of the arrow better?

  • @Antimidation It's just the release device. I shoot recurve palm in same as anyone else. Just can't anchor right that way with a trigger.

  • what bow are you using?

  • @vesperus1981 it was a few years back...i think it was an Ultra Elite. Now I'm shooting a Contender Elite.

  • this may be a dumb question and im deffinatly not judgeing, but why are you in a sports bra. i think i would want a little more coverage

  • @jlcyamaha Mostly we filmed in halter neck tops to try and show what the core was doing. It's more useful to see the back..which there are numerous vids of. Midriff didn't tell much, but you don't know if you don't look :) these are all vids we filmed for the purpose of training and nothing more. it's the quickest and easiest way to show someone what they ARE doing and what they SHOULD be doing. Who knew folk would get all fussed at seeing belly button? Surely you can see more at the beach?

  • @erikaanear i can understand that. im not judging i was just curious, i would want more coverage from that bow string

  • @jlcyamaha why would you be worried about hitting your tummy with the string?

  • @erikaanear i never specified tummy.... and ive seen what bowstrings will do. ive had a buddy get a chunk of skin taken off from a bow that gave a 65 lb dram wieght. ive goton nasty bruises from a 22 lb draw wieght. yes those injuries were on elbows where the bow has way more villosity but still they sell chest gaurds for a reason

  • @jlcyamaha there's no string contact on the chest with a compound. chest guards are for recurve or winter weight clothes.

  • @erikaanear very true. for me its preferance and false sense of security

  • @erikaanear not only is it preferance, but also the arms there wont or shouldnt be any contact with chest tummy or arms unless a mistake is made. so still

  • I prefer a colt M1911 and a ruger mini14 for a zombie apocalypse, no matter how skilled you are with a bow when it comes down to life and death you will pic the easier and for efficiant weapon I am a hardcore bow shooter and tac shooter and i would take a firearm for over a bow an day for silent application nothing beats a bow :) oh btw Erika you are supper hot will you join me in my zombie defense team? :) <3

  • @ocarlson007 I'm pretty sure the super hot chick always gets bumped off early....

  • @erikaanear I won't let that happen, promise, but in perspective most hot girls in zombie movies are nowhere near as deadly as you are lol, not to mention my deadly accuracy with firearms dream team in the making

  • @erikaanear

I've been trying to bump off hot chicks all my life, trust me it's not that easy.

  • @ocarlson007 welll in a city yeah but you gun is gunna draw ever stench in a 10 mile radius so your equally fucked ill stick with a truck and get the fuck outta that city

  • @ocarlson007 ahahahaha! zombie apocalipse!! to meeee!?

  • lolz howd it get to zombies? idk bout you guys but i think its personal preference an what your used to, my longbow and probably something along the lines of a bat if they get to close also are they running or stumbling zombies?

back to the point, nice shooting doin all the right things : )

  • Bit of a Badass arn't ya

  • Semply fantastic!!!! is that an hoyt?

  • Are you locking the nock right up on your cheek or is there space between the back of your hand and your cheek?

  • Compound bows are like training wheels, they are too fragile also with all those moving parts and pulleys, if I had a choice for one weapon in a zombie apocalypse it would be a recurve

  • @Fadsmashers well if we're talking zombies... hard call... i prefer my compound for the job... but recurve is lighter for travel and better for quick shooting... compound would be more effective though.

  • @erikaanear ZOMBIES i prefer my shotgun or my AR15..... Erica i had a question though. Where can i find a woman as beautiful as you that like to shoot? I need to get me one of those ASAP

  • @erikaanear against one zombie yes.. but try seven of them... You better get a re-curve buddy..

  • @erikaanear Zombies!!!! Im using my 10.5" Noveske, but my Z7 tactical wouldnt be to far away, lol

  • @erikaanear zombie apocalypse simple answer... a crossbow...

  • @alahad crossbows are to slow to reload. compound and recurve are way faster and more accurate at longer distances.

  • @erikaanear you haven't been watching the walking dead?? XD and you are right.... I think the lenght of the arrow gives more accuracy the farer the target am I correct?

im so excited I'm getting a recurve :D

  • @alahad i've only seen a few episodes. we don't get that show in Australia... Longer draw length gives more speed and accuracy generally.

  • @erikaanear No no, you both have it wrong, in a zombie apocalypse you should choose an English Warbow (A longbow with over 120# draw weight), simple, quiet, fast, can fire much biggere arrows and when you run out of arrows you have a nice big stick to hit people with.

  • @erikaanear Why do you never answer my questions?

  • @alajreid257 sorry :) busy little bee. can take me a while sometimes...

  • @erikaanear even easier a cleaver (no pun intended) and a gun, and you are set.

  • @erikaanear but the crossbow looks so much cooler.

  • @Fadsmashers

Recurves are proven through history, thats no doubt. But Compounds are MODERN technology. Humans have improved upon the design and application of throwing a stick with greater accuracy/power/leverage through compound bows.

  • @Fadsmashers Always had recurve as a kid. Getting back into it but I'm a weakling so have been considering a decent compound but after watching some videos of them in use I tend to agree.... I'll just work the muscles some more. They require a press to be strung?? People do hunt with them, but would suck having to fix a problem 20miles from anywhere.

  • @Fadsmashers Rule number one. When dealing with zombies DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT,be stingy with the arrows.

  • @Fadsmashers wait till u get to a boss zombie with armor then the extra power of a compound might come in handy

  • @Fadsmashers Seriously now, you could choose a much better weapon for a zombie apocalypse. Take for instance a desert eagle semi-auto handgun, maybe add some HE grenades, take an axe as well if you want to get personal or maybe a sword.. hmm.. definitely a katana.

  • @Fadsmashers I don't think you relize what your saying..... If a weapon is like a training wheel it would be much easier to shoot( which it is) and whould serve as a better survival weapon. Along with being made out of different types of high durible compounds the compound doesnt break nearly as easily. And if it does break, its fixable, a recurve made of wood, not only cant stand the test of time, if its break your screwed, its also harder to shoot....just my 2 cents

  • @Fadsmashers Interesting argument, but if I had a choice for one weapon in a zombie apocalypse, it would be BFG 9000. Not a bow, lol.

  • @Fadsmashers Haha I see I'm not the only one thinking about archery would a zombie apocalypse occur.

  • @PoepOpStokje archery for zombie apocalypse ? you take the bow il take the AR15

  • @Fadsmashers If before the zombies attack, keep a store of rotten tomaters.

  • @Fadsmashers

I shoot recurve, but my choice for a zombie apocalypse is still the 12gauge. It's a classic.

  • @Fadsmashers The topic of zombies sometimes comes up at the range.

If firearms aren't available (if, like me, you live in a gunless third world hellhole like England) you must consider rate of fire:

    Compound - far too slow.

Recurve, not a whole lot better.

Frankly if you're not shooting a traditional bow you've not got a prayer. I shoot recurve.

You'd better pray it's slow, undead zombies and not fast, virus zombies too... you'll have just one shot at the fast buggers before the hurt starts.

  • @KissakiSan tradional archery too :-) This is not proper for tradition bows, namely there using sights, stabilizers, quick rellease's and everything they can to make it easier to shoot a bow Like any rifle. We are in a different class my friend we need nothing of the sort, therefore were looking down the arror in a 3 fingers under the chin. And the fact you break your arm drawing a 100 pound longbow like the are.. :-)

its because there aiming through a peep sight and crosshair

  • elbows to high. everything should be level with the arrow. theb again I dont shoot with a sightn quick release or anything.. justa longbow and arrows.

Honestly thats really not good form, it looks akward. unless its a light pull bow?

my longbows 100pound draw you cant draw or hold them like that hehe .

  • nice how much do those long stabalisers cost on average

  • Back elbow is too high.

  • I shoot locally, by no means your caliber, both compound and traditional (long & recurve). I've seen you shoot both, which do you enjoy more? I find myself going for the recurves more.

    Have fun.

"Shoot low. They might be crawling."

  • @koxiesarmy shooting mostly compound at the moment... just shot recurve the other day for the first time in a year. still love it :)

  • Elbow a bit high.

  • I'm pretty sure that's Laura Croft

  • short draw.

  • 60 lb @ 29" draw.. would it be heavy for someone who does`t train archery.....at all -_-' , on shoulder and so? work out quite alot on the gym but i thought the shoulder take a beating among other things, got any exercises you do at the gym?

it for a paintball-bow, kinda hurt just thinking bout it, pulling 60 lb all day, so any training-tips would be appreciated :)

  • @PunyPirate well it really depends on your build... but yes 60lb is a lot if you're an armchair archer. and why would you need 60lb for a paintball bow?? that sounds a bit psychos r us... :S

After that... it becomes a grey area. I was shooting 60lb when I weighed 125lb. So you don't have to be a behemoth to do it. But I was also training to match the load. I've seen guys struggle with 50lb and I'v seen them not even notice 60lb. Some of it is your own build/strength, some of it is your technique

  • @erikaanear im a small kid and my bow is turned up to 80 with a 30 inch draw and i had 9 pins put in my shoulder less than a year ago..im a b.a haha

  • @erikaanear i am 185lb 6ft 2" and i bought a fred bear grizzly recurve bow 55lbs draw at 28" but my draw length is 29.5" and i draw all the way to the back of my cheek bone. It took me forever to work up my archery muscles to draw that bow and now i can shoot it all day. I think it just depends on how strong your archery muscles, because my friend is could pull back my bow like it was nothing and he has a very scrawny build but shoots a 70lb compound bow all the time.

  • @ipen5 well you gotta be one or the other... a brute or really good :D

  • @PunyPirate heres how you build up bow shooting muscles or how i did it, i shot lower poundage bows for a while and slowly adjusted, im shooting 70 now and im 5 foot 2 130 lbs, anybody can do it, just takes practice, hope that helps.

  • @bowhuntersp i had my dad help me on a 25 pound bow then like the next day i was shooting 35 pounds

  • @PunyPirate lol the airowgun i want to get that =)

  • awesome form and great follow through...makes me wanna start learning back tension >_< i fear it so lol

  • Our youth group has an archery honor for which kids can only use a plain bow with no sights or stabilizers or mechanical release. It can be hard for kids to learn but once they have it down pat, the move to modern bows and equipment shows a huge increase in accuracy.

This young lady shows very good form and control. She has obviously spent many hours in practice. That takes dedication. Salute!!

  • I always find it amusing to see people who have no idea who you are or how experienced you are telling you how to shoot. Believe me guys, Ive shot with Erica a few times at the national indoor championships and she would wipe the floor with the majority of you.

  • I think I have seen her compete at World Cup events.

  • you need to clean up that follow through

  • everyone knocking her technique! wow man,i would hate to see a video of my technique like this. the comments would be flying then!! her technique looks a hell of a lot better than what i see at the range where i shoot. i shoot a recurve most of the time , and i see there is a video of her shooting one of them. im gonna watch and see how much better she is with that than me!!

  • The arrow'll be far gone when your bow starts falling. ..

  • Shit. I can barely use a toy bow and those little arrows with the suction cups. With a real compound bow and real arrows I would probably kill myself. Is it even possible to kill yourself with a bow and arrow? Anyway, Benny Hill did a great skit where he uses a bow and various wierd arrows to shoot lovers with. The skit is called "Stupid Cupid" and it's hysterical.

  • Beautiful form and a beautiful girl, what a match. Very nicely done.

  • @wuqi25 Doesn't commenting on whether you think she's beautiful or not kind of undermine the awesome technique on display? So much for equality...

  • You have a very nice release! More women like you need to pick up the sport.

  • I agree with the follow through comment, I've noticed on a lot of Erica's videos that the moment the arrow is away the bow is dropping and I've been told by more experienced archers to keep the bow on target as long as possible after release.

  • Artificially holding up the bow arm is a waste of time and energy. Let it fall as it will.

lmao and what makes you think I'm not an experienced archer?

  • I was referring to what other, more experienced archers than myself, had told me personally in a bow hunting class I took. I wasn't trying to imply that you, Erika, were inexperienced in any way. Sorry if it sounded that way, poor choice of wording on my part. I have a book that agrees with your view on it, the book states that is the reason for a wrist strap on the bow, because your grip should be loose enough that the bow falls away on it's own.

  • @erikaanear ...I agree...I shoot long bows and horsebows...and I don't really even "hold" the bow...I let the draw weight do the work...and the bow falls away upon release. I don't know what "experienced archers" this guy's talking about...most world class archers "follow through" is even more pronounced than what you're even doing?

  • @erikaanear Agreed! Holding up the bow is a waste of energy. It will not increase accuracy. He or she has taken some bad advice.

  • @erikaanear waste of energy? your bow must be very heavy then :P

  • @Otakahunt nah, I just have weeny arms :)

  • @erikaanear People think that any attractive woman participating in a sport is not a professional or is inexperienced. it's them being stupid. don't take it personal.

  • @cardiacthapoet oh that isn't limited to sport where I'm from.... :D

  • @GenXAccord It's a matter of the bow used. "System" archers, i.e. those using bows with counterweights, visors and whatnot, let the bow drop after release. Those bows are very front-heavy, and trying to hold them up would likely result in a jerky motion, throwing the arrow off-course. What you've been told - "keep the bow steady after release" - is true for traditional forms of archery, without counterweights, visors and other attachments. Keeping a longbow steady after release is easy.

  • @GenXAccord i think trying to hold the bow up longer will be prone to bow torque... once the arrow leaves, the bow has no effect maybe the tip is for beginner archers idk just be sure you have a wrist sling or finger slings if your going to shoot open hand and let the bow drop. my frand shoots with a death grip and hes new to archery but damn hes a natural even with his death grip he shoots super tight groups and robin hooded once

  • @GenXAccord yeah, as soon as the arrow follows through, you can drop it

  • You should be proud. The US has a very strong team of female compounders. Jamie Van Natta, Erika Anschutz, Britney Lorrenti, Diane Watson... to name a few. All great girls to shoot with too.

Nice to hear I'm reaching a younger audience... hahahahahaha never occurred to me that a video to show basic technique was going to cause so much consternation. The bikini stuff has been invaluable for working with the physiotherapist and coaches. Can't fix what you can't see. ;)

  • @erikaanear :D

  • Her form appeared to be spot on, I would hold the follow through a little longer though. I do agree w/superfantasticdave's comment!! LOL

  • Actually I was only shooting 1370s max when this was filmed. I've made a lot of changes in the last 19 months. The draw length is longer. The elbow is lower. Front shoulder is now lower too.

I shot my first 1390 in competition yesterday. Current technique as it stands has not been filmed yet... but this months vids aren't too far off.

  • Can't wait Erika, it's nce to see a female dominating this sport for once!! My daughter loves watching your vids w/me!! Well the ones where you have your shirt on. . . (she is 5yrs old)

  • Hahah i wish there were girls like her where i practice archery, there are only old fat men with long beards :P hahahah

  • @marcos89baires why is it always like that at EVERY club?

  • @marcos89baires hahah dam right, E should be declared Australian national monument.

  • Never shot a bow with more than 6" brace hight.Any opinions about 7 and up.This UltraElite is maybe 8.

  • i love people commenting who don't have a clue......Windwalker940.....no talking about anyone in particular

  • I've tried a bow and arrow. I suck. Then again I am left handed so I have to ask what may seem a silly question. Is there such thing as a left handed bow?

As you can tell I know NOTHING about archery.

This is why I shoot rifles. My bow and arrow isn't very accurate at 600 yards. Haha.

  • There are right and left handed bows, but as far as i know (I'm a beginner) it is more importent to know wether you are left or right eye dominant.

  • @UtahMike41: Left Handed Bow? Very much so. Most makers provide lines for lefties. What do you shoot, compound, recurve, or stick?

  • Lol, yeah fella'. They make left handed bows. Typically though, you have to special order them.

That's why I use traditional longbows, without an arrow rest. Ambidextrous, and it doesn't cost anything extra, because there's nothing extra to pay for.

  • yes there are left handed bows...if you're using a right handed one you are shooting off handed so that might explain why you think you are sucking it up :)

  • i saw two errors!

the release went back, it should stand still

dont take down the bow to quikly

  • i have a guy giving me tips that has trained archers that have gotten within the top 5 at vegas shoots and he told me a good thing to do is touch your shoulder right after you shoot so your right hand goes straight back, its ok for it to go back just not way out to the right

  • @WindWalker940 ... I realize that you made this "comment" a year ago. But hopefully you have gained some insight since. If not... here is a little. Erika shoots with back tension (the only way to correctly shoot) IF an archer is using back tension it is IMPOSSIBLE for the release hand to "stand still" and the bow arm not to move. If you would like to compare techniques feel free to contact Erika..... or me.

  • Great form, what bow are you using?

  • A Hoyt UltraElite.
