It seems the videos on Youtube using the HDC-SD9 using the new Sony Vegas software all produce the REAL HD quality. I keep getting low quality conversion using Ulead... going to try Sony Vegas very soon.
How can i export my video ,converting it 'or whatever' without getting a messy pixelated and shitty quality ? in other words 'get a fine HD on this camera ? and hopely without using pinnacle..
I just noticed that Youtube doesn't give me the HD option with this video any longer, Just HQ. Very Strange. I'll have to see if I still have the original. All my other videos have HD options.
@SoapsAreStupid Thanks! The poor quality came about when Youtube dumped this video down to standard def for some reason. Camera to this day is still amazing. Can't complain.
I also use pinnacle and the SD9... do you have an easy way to adjust brightness and contrast?
I find it immensely annoying that I'm limited to Pinnacle because I find Sony and Adobe so much easier to use! Also, the end results seem better. I'm left to convert everything to another format just to edit it again! Very akward, don't you think?
Hello. I think it's like any other new technology, companies are slow to accept it. I'd like to see Microsoft incorporate support for AVCHD in WMM. Sometimes I like to use WMM to quickly make a video.
I know your comment was 7months ago, so you probably know, but Premeire CS4 and Vegas 9 both support AVCHD (.mts from HDC-SD9). I have edited with both however i use sony vegas as it seems to process .mts files more efficiently and i've had exporting issues in premiere!
Hello All. Can't believe so many people are watching this little clip. Thank you for viewing! I still feel for the money, this camera is awesome. The color depth is great and there are just enough features to do what I need it to do. I appreciate all the tips as well. I still use Pinnacle Studio 12 to do my editing, seems to work well for me. Biggest tip I found was make sure you have RAM. I upgraded to 4GB and saw a huge difference in performance. Cheers!
PLEASE HELP ME how do I put video on my PC??? I have the same camcorder however I can only put pictures on my pc and cant transfer any HD video.
So please send me some information in how to. Please I beg of you I've been playing around for 6 hours and I cant figure it out. You can either email me or reply to my comment on your video.
To find your videos, they are in the PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM folder. The files are created with a .MTS extension. Copy those to your Hard Drive and do your editing from there.
You either need to convert it to a more standard format such as AVI, Windows Media, or do a Google search for a CODEC for your system to play it. For normal viewing, I convert all my videos but backup all my original MTS files for future editing.
if you want to upload with an hdc-sd9 you want to install the program hdwriter they give you in the box. run the program, press ok. click the first tab that says "copy to pc" after you have done that, go to "easy editing" and convert your videos into "mpeg2". after that you should be able to watch your video with windows media player. and like a regular wmp video upload it onto youtube. easy =].
hi, could u tell how i can do to upload my videos AVCHD to youtube?? i been tryin to do it, but i have to wait for 6 hours, is just 5 minute of video that i want to upload to youtube is to long to wait for that, which program u use? how u do it?? please help me i got the same camara SD9
just to throw my 2 cents in, this camera has a SERIOUSLY hard time getting situated with macs (finalcut and imovie) but it's working for me now with the latest quicktime upgrade and the latest version of imovie. I import to imovie, export to quicktime and import to finalcut, lose the HD, but it still looks great. newest version of finalcut should import it full HD directly, but it's too much moolah for me to upgrade. it looks great no matter what though, great camera, ESPECIALLY for the price.
Hi schustf - great looking video - what is the exact file type that you are uploading to youtube? I am using Divx - which looks good when watching in "high quality" - but still looks bad in "standard quality." Are you uploading mp4? Divx? AVI? thanks!
These videos are all Divx .mp4 format. I use Pinnacle Studio 11.5 with the latest patches from their website, which was a must. I must say, the sd9 is a very nice camera for the money, especially if you can find it for around $300 on ebay. I use this camera for family events and my Xacti for quick point and shoot applications, like grabbing a license plate num.:)
I love this camera easy to use and very nice picture quality, very nice on the 50" lcd tv!!! I have post a quick video i recorded, usin pinnicle studio 11, to convert to hd divx, then uploaded to u tube!! rec anyone to get one!!
you can export to youtube or other formats pretty easily with the editing software, which usually has features to export to a file format and resolution good for those applications.
Or you can just convert them yourself and then post them on youtube or wherever.
I bought this camera last month, the HDC-SD9 for a great price
Great OIS, i set it on top of my dash while driving on the freeway and around town. Superb OIS.
Incredible color saturation and HD clarity. Never had a corrupt file. But bad editing software. Tried Ulead and Sony Vegas 8, both crash all the time with (AVCHD) files.
Nero 8 pack works great. Dual core 2.14GHz with 2GB ram is at about 100% when playing AVCHD files at 17MBPS. EVGA 8800 GTX. Gets choppy, don't know how to improve yet.
What program are you using to play your videos? I found that Quicktime player is about the worst player to play HD videos. I use PowerDVD. Quicktime was very choppy and unusable.
I'm using Nero Vision 5 to edit and play the files. Also plug it into my HDTV and using the edit options available on the camera itself.
Thinking about a iMac with 2.4GHz Core Duo, 4 GB RAM and a 24+inch display and Final Cut Pro ($1000 at least), which I heard works really well and has the features available to make it run smoothly.
Anyone have a PC based solution that works well, Nero Vision 5 in Nero 8 barely works for me. Ulead and Vegas 8 just crash and stop working for me.
I should mention, the choppiness is likely from the playback quality being so high. If there's a feature in Quicktime to reduce that quality somewhat you can get it to play smoothly. This also helps when editing the video too. Lots of people are recommending Final Cut Pro lately.
It records on SD cards. In the case with my laptop, it has a onboard card reader. If you don't have an onboard reader, they make a variety of card readers; USB, PCI, PCMCIA, PCIe, etc. and any would move your files quickly to your pc.
I do like this camera. Easy to use with nice feature set. Video quality is very nice. Stabilization system works well and is a must with HD. Only downside is AVCHD which can be difficult to edit. I use Pinnacle Studio to do any editing.
youtube sucks. try another website.

@schustf Yup. I have the exact same camera, and im loving it to death also.
SoapsAreStupid 10 months ago
download link to the original file would be appreciated.
This is compressed to 640x360, which is a joke compared to 1920x1080, doesn't really do the SD9 justice at all.
Nice colours though.

Is this camera the dearer sd9 (£500+) or the cheaper one on play at £400? I was looking at this camera and noticed on
Amazon there are two models and I was looking at the cheaper one. Thanks.
