I'm thinking about building a "78" replica without a Floyd. I think a great deal of his early tone was using the standard Fender bridge coupled with low output PAF type pickups. The Floyd thins out the tone and forces you to wind the pickups hotter to compensate which creates compression. The song "Light Up the Sky" really exemplifies the wonderful combo of the old Fender trem and Gibson pickup, in the way the notes decay.

Pretty good-these comments are only nitpicks: The timing is a little vague on the rhythm part, a little tighter and sharper attack w. a little funk and it would be dead on. Also when EVH slides between the rhythm chords he plays so you hear the fingerslides up and down to the various changes (listen carefully); this is part of what makes him so good. But you play way better than I do, so you have my respect here!

im pretty sure i've asked you every question possible about you evh replica but i've got another one. I was going to put a red coat on my replica this spring, and also install a floyd rose and maple neck, but can i just get a regular floyd bridge? im asking b/c i have a kramer with a floating bridge and its got these prong things on the bottom that i think would push up against the body if i put a floyd on a non-floating type body. your advice is much appreciated.
