i was one when this happened. i live in st. mike's and we had tree branches go through the roof of our family room and my parents bedroom. not cool. we stayed at my grandmothers, but strangely our cat refused to come with us.
I grew up in Fauquier County Virginia in the 80's and 90's. I was a Junior in High School when this storm hit. School was canceled for over 5 weeks. To make it up, our school days were lengthened by 70 minutes and we stayed darn near through the end of June. Sure was beautiful. And fun!
This will be the storm I will always remember. I was 10 at the time, living in Perry Hall, MD. Everything was covered in about 2-3 inches of pure ice. It made for very entertaining "sledding", if you want to call it that. It was not as entertaining for my dad when he came home from work and slid down the bottom of our driveway though.
I was living in Memphis Tn when that happened, we had no power for two weeks; lol, I remember trying to heat a can of beans on the grill while freezing my ass of in the four inch thick ice
I was 14 and I lived in Indian Head, MD. I was out playing on the ice with my friends and dilocated my knee.... spent New Years Eve in Civista (or was it still PMH then??)
Good week, no school, ice skating all over easton. I rember the last day of ice skating in the lawn, ice stared to break, twas sad. Remember broken trees everywhere. Lived in Thread Haven, still live in Easton, just got back from out of the army. I was 11 at the time, good memories of youth. Great year to be a kid.
I remember this storm VERY well. I lived in Calvert County at the time and we were without power for 2 weeks. We had to move in with friends in Annapolis because without power there was no water from the well. You can still see bent trees to this day.
I'm from calvert county, we'd moved to the county the year before this hit wahoo talk about craziness. It was so dark at night you ran the risk of bumping into who knows what! Though I'd have to say that spooky stories and what would have probably been hits during this craziness lol.
I live in St. Mary's county....i was only 4 when this happened but i remember we were able to skate across a field...no freaking power for almost 3 weeks!
God I remember this we lived in one room for a week cause we had no power and had to heat that room with a kerosene heater it was fun as crap though no school for what seemed like ever. just played cards and board games all day with the family
What a mess. School was closed for two weeks. We used to live on a really steep hill. During this storm, my dad tried to drive his car and slid down into our neighbor's yard. You couldn't go anywhere. Ah the memories. They will last a lifetime.
I lived in Hurlock, MD, about twenty minutes from where this video was shot. In your backstory you said power was out for about a week. Our power was out for 2 and a half weeks! We were totally isolated ( we lived in the country side). I remember power companies as far as Canada and Florida coming to help restore power.
Slidding was fun and fast and I laugh at my parents because my little sister was born that November! Guess they had nothing better to do!
i rememba my mom tellin me about this bcuz i was born in fredricksburg va but she was pregnant with me at the time n i was born not to long afta dat now i kno y she was trippen off it so much it luks bad
I actually lives in Lexington park (st marys county) Md. and though i was young, i remember that time. mostly due to the fact we were without power for about a week. but i remember the storm, and the after effects
We live in Colorado now but I lived in Denton & was pregnant with my 1st child when this hit. Our power was out for 4 days. We wouldn't even go outside without golf shoes on.
If anyone needs proof I grew up in Easton that's Idewild Park across the First Baptist church. My father went to the high school that used to be where the parking lot is ;)
I did after most of the ice melted, and limbs stopped falling from trees. I almost cut my thumb off cutting limbs that had fallen in my grandmothers back yard, my uncle wouldn't loan me his chain saw, and wouldn't come around to help clean up.
forget cold ass Calvert county. I finally moved to florida..Calvert county sucks. You did not have to worry about rraffic light sgoing out back then.. there were only two in the whole friggin county
my family and i were stuck in the guidos basement for a few days cuz of this. represent Calvert! woot. awesome video, bud. i love the back story you give so its not just like 'hey, cool... snow?'

I was in Corinth MS. I remember the trees were exploding from the ice seeping into them then freezing and expanding. It looked like a war zone!

This was an awful storm; we had no power for three or so days in Tennessee. I remember when I was 2 years old not to open the fridge.

you should be helping your neighbours get the ice off your roofs and vice versa!

Would like to have seen some live footage of the storm itself as a set up. Nice job of aftermath, though.

I would like to have had some live footage, but, as always hindsight is 20/20.
