I'm guessing you don't like Livia. XD She certainly created a lot of waves on the show. As for Hope, I am a huge Hope fan...but that might have something to with me being a huge ROC fan. ;p

Oh no, I like Livia as a character, with all her Eve transition and stuff. I just saw most of the situation from Xena-s or a mother-s point of view. ANd I must say that-s gotta hurt! Lol! As for my comparison, Livia lost her temper and objective jugement easily and she could be influenced with the right words. Hope was more calculated and in control. :)

True true, it would really have been hurtful to Xena, you're right. :) Also true that Livia flew off the handle all the time. Hope was certainly a very focused villain, knowing exactly what she wanted.

this is a really interesting concept. Even after season three they still had the urge to nurture and protect each other, i mean who doesn't want to protect those you love? But i think as Gabrielle began to grow more as an individual (she was very 'clingy' in the beginning)we see less of xena mothering, like teaching Gabrielle skills she needs to stay alive, and more signs of her 'other' interests (if your a shipper you see those signs everywhere, or at least i do lol)

Insightful concept AlphaLuna, and I think you're right about the changing relationship dynamic as the seasons go on. My take is that while Xena is physically protective originally (and Gabrielle quite clingy as you mention), Gabrielle is quite er emotionally protective of Xena. Or protective of her "goodness". Of course as time goes on Xena has to play role reversal and becomes protective of Gabrielle's goodness. It's very full circle. Awesome show *sighs*.

That is true, and i really noticed the role reversal in 'to helicon and back' when it was xena who prevented gabrielle from killing that man after the war was over.

I really like how you put that; she was protective of Xena's goodness. and it was very true, it was always Gabrielle who pulled xena back from the 'brink' of evil.

Yep I agree re "To Helicon and Back" (great ep) when we see Xena playing Gabrielle's usual role. They were good for each other hey. ^^

Xena and Gabrielle's relationship thankfuly changed dramaticaly over the six years, and by the third series they were lovers and partners for life!, not mumsy and bratty offspring, they became full fledged human beings, with desires wants and needs towards one another that doesn't take a rocket scientist to go figure out!

Thanks for the comment, Amy! :) Although I'm a Xena/Gabrielle shipper I would respectfully disagree that they were lovers/partners by the third series. In canon, that is never really defined... I'm not saying they had a mother/daughter relationship, just that there is an interesting psychological dimension of trying to mother each other (and others) at times. o.O O.o
