great song. amazing lyrics but i gotta say it's a lot easier to appreciate with the smoother emotional vocals of robert smith with precise synthetic sounds in place of distorted guitar wails
I saw them live in Toronto this summer 2011. They still rock! The band and the lead singer's voice are in fine form. Several of their songs remain as the best the 80"s had to offer.

Music and lyrics, written and sung by bands that could! Unlike 90% of the rubbish on today's charts. Songs today speak of partying and getting tipsy and other superficial things. Today's generation of Glee'ful youth and young adults have no ambition to become a scientist, doctor, etc, only to be discovered or become famous with no talent or skill. Anyways, both the Cure and PB are not Metal. I do agree, Crystal Castles did a better cover but still credit goes out to PB 15 yrs ago

As a child of the 80's who was totally into the whole big hair glam rock, this is a great song. Never deny that. But also as a fan of electronic music Crystal Castles did a phenomenal job covering it. I absolutely love all 3 versions. They're totally different songs and that's what makes them all great. <3
I remember this so vividly. A couple of kids were stabbed at Nathan Phillip's Square that night. I was in 8th Grade and Platinum Blonde were booked to play my soon to be High School (Notre Dame College School, Welland, Ontario.) All the parents got in a tizzy. They thought Platinum Blonde brought out a violent element. They played and they rocked. It was a great show, and a great time in my life.. Great band.

no no i think this version is kick aaasss. and i knew it way before the CC one, thanks to toronto's best 80's music, 97.3 BOOM :D oh and can we say ANDROGYNOUS MUCH!! lol i <3 its mad hot
How can any1 say the newer version of this song is better then the original? Ya'll just proved the point of why kids arent allowed to vote, its because they're fukkn retarded
@FlyBird So your sayn that the new version is better, ok, I heard the crappy robert whateva version and to me it sounds shit, but thats my opinion. I grew up in the 80s and i like this way better bro but to each is own and I see your on here playn the song so u know its fukkn hype LOL
@combat1con Robert Smith is the frontman of the Cure, a very popular and critically-acclaimed band from the 80s. So you're not "from the 80s" lol. The reason why the song is great is because of him.
Too funny, this song is from the 80's and the band was long forgotten. In comes Crystal Castles with Robert Smith and suddenly people are talking once again about Platinum. I can imagine the reaction of the band members (where ever they are today) upon hearing the great Robert Smith will cover one of their song. Oh well, they'll at least get a well deserved royalty check out of all this.
@grinderman77 i was in forever 21 and i heard this song and stopped because i knew the song but it sounded wrong! it was the crystal castles version! i wish they would just play the 80s stuff because its more fun!
@grinderman77 Well the lead singer of Platinum owns the Mod Club in Toronto and is the resident dj (dj MRK) there. But yeah just goes to show the Toronto mentality, I chuck it up to those 40 ex goth girls still listening to 102.1 and dreaming about their fat king of the goths, Rob Smith. Or the usual synth fans.
@grinderman77 as far as the band's reaction, Kenny MacLean passed away in November 2008 and Mark Holmes runs the Mod Club in Toronto, and Mark knows Ethan Kath (also from Toronto)of Crystal Castles and I'm sure he also knows Robert Smith. .
PB is not long forgotten. they are only forgotten by today's youth. anyone my age (37) and canadian remembers the burgeoning canadian pop/new wave scene, the birth of much music and pb being one of the first successful canadian "new wave" acts. this song from their first album is a bit meh but some of the other tracks are killers.
mark owns and operates the mod club in toronto. it's an amazing club that i've had the pleasure of playing!! he DJs there regularly and it's always packed with people dancing. oh, and he is a huge fan of crystal castles (and spins them when he DJs), who are also from toronto.

Too funny? The arrogance in your comments about what people listen to or what YOU think people listen to can go suck a big one. Maybe forgotten to you! I still listen to Platinum Blonde regularly. They didn't need C.C. or Robert Smith (whom I also love) to be remembered.
The were recognized and inducted in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame well before C.C. released the "NIL Cover". They did a reunion show well before the cover. Platinum Blonde slays C.C.
@whatthefluk Wow, I had to read my original statement again as I was no longer sure what it implied. I think you misunderstood my statement. What I related to was the fact that it's surprising to see R. Smith dabble into a side project involving a song from what could be labeled as an "obscure Canadian band from the 80's". I saw Platinum Blonde in a slimy bar in Halifax in the 90's because they couldn't sell enough tickets at the local arena. To this day, The Cure remains a huge band.
The artist(s) that covered the song (less Smith) know the Platinum peeps. The Platinum front man operates a very successful club at which Crystal has played and debuted albums. It's no surprise that to the Platinum that the song was covered. Did you know that Platinums version was also (technically) a cover?
@shioncherry Better? in what way? both are great songs, Platinum is the one who WROTE IT, you can't make it better if you take someone else song. I like both, kinda dig the CC version a bit more, but it doesn't make it better in any way.
@g33g33H I think it is better version, because I heard both versions and yet I chose which is better in my opinion. If you have your own opinion I will respect
@ElisenHearts -- What exactly did I write that was wrong? There is no Platinum Blonde today because people don't care. Robert Smith covers their song, and all of a sudden people start talking about Platinum Blonde. Don't feel so bad Elisen... next year you'll have them all to yourself again;)
Fashionable!

combat1con 1 year ago
@combat1con LOL it is better tho. This version is great, but the Robert Smith cover is phenomenal.

@FlyBird So your sayn that the new version is better, ok, I heard the crappy robert whateva version and to me it sounds shit, but thats my opinion. I grew up in the 80s and i like this way better bro but to each is own and I see your on here playn the song so u know its fukkn hype LOL
combat1con 1 year ago
@combat1con Robert Smith is the frontman of the Cure, a very popular and critically-acclaimed band from the 80s. So you're not "from the 80s" lol. The reason why the song is great is because of him.

@FlyBird I was born 1977 and Im black LMFAO so forgive me for not knowing this crappy shit but I like the song :-)

I love Robert Smith, and the CC cover of this is pretty cool, but I grew up in the '80s and still think the Platinum Blonde original OWNS. :)

@grinderman77 i was in forever 21 and i heard this song and stopped because i knew the song but it sounded wrong! it was the crystal castles version! i wish they would just play the 80s stuff because its more fun!
lostroxanduknowit 1 year ago
@grinderman77 Well the lead singer of Platinum owns the Mod Club in Toronto and is the resident dj (dj MRK) there. But yeah just goes to show the Toronto mentality, I chuck it up to those 40 ex goth girls still listening to 102.1 and dreaming about their fat king of the goths, Rob Smith. Or the usual synth fans.
sixsix6 11 months ago

@grinderman77 Fun fact, the lead singer Mark Holmes owns the Mod Club Theatre in Toronto, Ontario.

mark owns and operates the mod club in toronto. it's an amazing club that i've had the pleasure of playing!! he DJs there regularly and it's always packed with people dancing. oh, and he is a huge fan of crystal castles (and spins them when he DJs), who are also from toronto.

Platinum Blonde slays C.C.
whatthefluk 9 months ago
@whatthefluk Wow, I had to read my original statement again as I was no longer sure what it implied. I think you misunderstood my statement. What I related to was the fact that it's surprising to see R. Smith dabble into a side project involving a song from what could be labeled as an "obscure Canadian band from the 80's". I saw Platinum Blonde in a slimy bar in Halifax in the 90's because they couldn't sell enough tickets at the local arena. To this day, The Cure remains a huge band.

@grinderman77 Mark Holmes actually DJ's at a club he founded in Toronto now- the Mod Club. Fun Fact. :)

@grinderman77
The artist(s) that covered the song (less Smith) know the Platinum peeps. The Platinum front man operates a very successful club at which Crystal has played and debuted albums. It's no surprise that to the Platinum that the song was covered. Did you know that Platinums version was also (technically) a cover?

CC version it's 100 times better
shioncherry 1 year ago
@shioncherry Better? in what way? both are great songs, Platinum is the one who WROTE IT, you can't make it better if you take someone else song. I like both, kinda dig the CC version a bit more, but it doesn't make it better in any way.
g33g33H 1 year ago
@g33g33H I think it is better version, because I heard both versions and yet I chose which is better in my opinion. If you have your own opinion I will respect

@ElisenHearts -- What exactly did I write that was wrong? There is no Platinum Blonde today because people don't care. Robert Smith covers their song, and all of a sudden people start talking about Platinum Blonde. Don't feel so bad Elisen... next year you'll have them all to yourself again;)
