@jdlarrimo They are in the process of draining the ship as we speak! Well. of fuel and hazardous fluids anyway. The water will come later once they patch up the hole. And of course two tugs can pull a ship that size. a small-ish French fishing boat is pulling her sister ship as we speak (the Allegra which has had a fire and lost power). This isn't the first time this has been attempted with a ship before.
The electricity is shot. It is under water. Gensets are scrap. It is on its side and water is in the doors and windows. The lower decks were not sealed as they could have been if they had time. This schematic will not work.
WTF Man!?! It's not that easy! To start, yes they could patch up the damage, but how in the hell are they going to get air bags down there? And even if they did, most likely it wouldn't pop up nice and perfect like that. And lastly, what would really be the point? Pretty much everything on the ship would have water damage and/or be broken from tipping...
You can't rescue the ship because its hull has already been lifted and racked. As you can see in the video, its resting on its side. Like a penny being squished, the structure of the hull would yield to the conformations of the ocean floor. Even if you plugged the hole and managed to tow it to dry dock, they would ultimatly have to scrap the whole ship...
Let's be realistic: The vessel is a total loss. All the modulair cabins will never be able to be used, All electrical, engines, electronics etc has been ruined
Tutte stronsate
It's sad that people wont accept the fact that THIS SHIP IS DONE AND OVER WITH!!! She will NEVER float, sail, or ANYTHING EVER AGAIN! As much as I'd love to see her be raised again it wont happen =[
@unforgivenclan2 its not just metal its a building! that use to float! they would have to rebuild half that ship and by the time they raise it it will be less expensive to build a new ship =[ I would love to see it but id also like to see them make the ship into a reef...
Solution 1: IF they can bring this vessel back to afloat, they will be better off selling it to another company as a fixer upper. The confidence in Costas passengers will make that ship a tough sell. They need to sell her to another company and change her name.
Solution 2: Remove everything on board and sink her in deeper water. She will make a wonderful artificial reef!!
@inflatablegames The ship is most likely a Constructive loss..so It will most likely be (a:Drug out further and sunk...or (B scrapped...although there is a huge potential the ship could sink more if a strom surge or waves push it...The Ship is very close to completly sinking due to the fact near where it lays is it a drop.
if they re build that ship its going to be a billion dollars wasted no ones going to go on that boat and there idea will never work because u would need to take all of the water out of the ship and the steel reinforcment wont hold up from the pressure of the water inside and out it will crippel up the steel and just damage the ship more
Step 4: "Fuck that, let's just leave the cunt in the Ocean and make a Hollywood blockbuster on it instead... Well cast Joey from Friends as the dopey captain. We'll use the profits to pay off the survivors".
What you don't see in the video is the airbags inside the ship. Once you fill the airbags inside the ship and on the sides. You will have to drain the fuel tanks and fill them with air. This will create enough buoyancy to start draining this vessel. Once the vessel is drained, it will be up to the Oompa Loompa's to take it off to Oompa Looma Land for a full restoration.
didn't you think of the thousands of tons of water that are still in this ship?...how could you possibly think to raise the ship and carry it away so easily?
I think they were planning to put the inflatable bags inside the ship itself, Im certain this is the procedure they are actually going to be using to salvage the ship.
I don't get why cruise liners like this don't have a floating device like that to begin with...so if the hull of the ship were to get ripped like it did with this ship...the floatation device would automatically inflate too keep the ship balanced.
@ViewpointSaba Modern day cruise ships have systems to prevent sinking, They have bulk heads which are small sections of the ship that if filled up with water they can be completely closed off to stop the water from spreading, the problem with this ship was that when the captain made a hard turn all the water moving around in that bulk head caused it to capsize, 'IF' the ship did not the turn then maybe it might not have capsized.
"Modern day cruise ships have systems to prevent sinking"
No, they don't. This is the same myth that attached itself to the Titanic. If it floats and it's made of steel, it'll sink.
It isn't just about water intake. It's about the shift of the centre of gravity to a point where it will not recover. The watertight integrity is all within the hull - not the superstructure, which is always meant to be well above the freeboard.
@keyboarddancer No matter how you slice it, the damage to the ship may not be worth rebuilding. They may be better off selling it to someone else to rebuild her. This loss will exceed more than a billion USD
There aren't any expereinces in lifting passenger ships of that size, only some with cargo ships. The balance point of these cruise liners is far higher than that of cargo ships. So those air cushions or ballons would require such a size, which isn't to handle.
We have to keep in mind - we are talking about 120 000 tons
@keyboarddancer if they re build that ship its going to be a billion dollars wasted no ones going to go on that boat and there idea will never work because u would need to take all of the water out of the ship and the steel reinforcment wont hold up from the pressure of the water inside and out it will crippel up the steel and just damage the ship more

1 The ship is FLOODED people! It'll just tear it up even more!
2 How are two tugboats able to pull a 5 giga ton ship? Use your brains people!
jdlarrimo 1 week ago
