It is because we are a top predator, no THE top predator.

As long as there are humans there will be violence. So the most non violent act would be to kill all humans violently. Ok not violently but just pressing a button wouln't be as much fun:)

I say, Either have this world sink into complete chaos, or finally have a real form of peace. Not this state of life they label as peace when in truth, it's so messed up that kids these days are confused on the basic morals of society.. Plus they are faced with hard facts these days, where as in previous years, these things were either kept behind blind eyes, or people just turn the other cheek to it. People that think the only way to prevent school shootings is stricter guns laws are ignorant. They obviously want to hurt people because of they way they are treated. Guns just get a bad rap because they're a tool poeple use to express their emotions. You should ask yourselves how can I prevent kids from even wanting to do something like this. Even if guns were banned people would use other things like knives, bombs, anything. If you want to help teach them instead of just taking something away

Which goes back to my point, banning guns may bring an end to shootings, but not to killing people. And besides look at countries like Switzerland. Switzerland has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world, but also one of the lowest firearm related crime rates in the world.

I feel that I've hogged the comments area, but must add this: I can't even begin to tell you how many 'near-misses' occur en route to and at American schools regularly. When my kids were young, I swore I'd never send them to private school. That was before my oldest rode on a school bus on which a loaded gun was passed around. The kid who had it intended to kill his teacher and several classmates that day, and was 'bragging' on the bus. He hid the gun behind a ceiling tile once at school. (more)

Everyone who likes this video and is interested in this vital issue in desperate need of reform should see Michael Moore's 'Bowling For Columbine'. I know it isn't as much an problem for Europeans (I'm happy for you, and also jealous!), but the film is incredibly well done, in the same documentary style as 'Roger and Me', 'Fahrenheit 9/11' and 'Sicko'. You really should check it out if you haven't

You know, the more I watch this, the more I love it.

For the life of me, I can't effing figure out the prevailing American mentality regarding this issue. The NYC police REGULARLY consults with their counterparts in London for strategic help in reducing firearm-related deaths and disabling injuries. Nothing ever changes, though. And if McPlain and the Fascist wench somehow get elected, it's only going to get worse. Gun control is one of the top issues I feel very passionately about. ENOUGH!!!

Not only are The Pixies one of my favorite bands, but more importantly, I have supported gun control efforts in every way I can (financially, vocally, you name it) since moving back to the States as an adult after growing up in saner societies. Wish I could say I was optimistic, but Americans simply won't let go of the totally outdated idea that gun ownership is a fundamental human right (and health care isn't!)
