omg Ron has hit itright on the mark. His official support is apparently quite weak, but in open ended, online, and more public polls and blogs and such stuff - his support is overwhelming! And we RLLY RLLLY need this guy to be our president! VOTE RON PAUL FOR AN AMERICAN AMERICA!
It may be argued that the government may hold stores of resources before a sanction and ration out food to select groups, thereby selectively starving the very populations we are attempting to save.
Sanctions are not perfect, but it is perhaps the most effective, non-military method of persuasion we have.
its nice to see new hampshire radio paying attention and asking important questions about the issues.i used to listen to wrko when i lived in massachussetts. i live in iowa now and the only thing people seem to care about is corn. i hope i'm wrong. check out my video, type in "ron paul underdogs will win"
If you believe that you are in a better position to determine what is best for you, if you believe that your neighbors and friends respect you as much as you respect them, if you believe that your freedom and liberty is only as secure as the freedom and liberty of your neighbors, if you believe that it is the duty of government to promote freedom and liberty, then how can you believe that our government's policy of trading freedom and liberty for security is going to secure freedom and liberty?
Absolutely correct MGM12. It's an attempt to pull in hits from fans of other candidates. It's dishonest. (and i've seen other candidate supporters do it too)
Governments do not promote liberty. Governments do not defend liberty. Government programs always fail. Government usually succeeds at convincing people that war is necessary, through fear. Governments do not stop violence, governments are violent. Government is force, and it is out of control.
The Muhjadeen was not the same as the Taliban . Afghanistan ASKED us to help them rid the country of the Soviets. So you apparently think we shoud not help any country in need, right?
If we helped every country in need we would be bankrupt. Consider also that our buddies at the IMF/World Bank support dictator and also hollow out native economies creating perpetual 3rd world conditions. Watch "Kicking the Ladder Away," a lecture by Noam Chomsky. BTW, we're already bankrupt ($9 national debt and growing exponentially!).
We shouldn't give military assistance to every country that needs it. For two main reasons:
1) It is Un-Constitutional! You don't like it? Petition and rally to have Congress change it.
2) As I have said before the idea of "assistance", we give with conditions of using only specific American companies that are usually owned, ran-by, or are employing American Politicians that make these decisions.
99% of ppl living in Pakistan are Muslem, and most support Bin Laden. They would stage a coup over Masharif and take over the whole country if he agrees to let ANY Americans or westerners into his country. He has already had 5 attempted Assasination tries on himself. Even his army is half Taliban. What would happen if he was gone? Taliban and Al Qeada in power with there very own NUKES
spookynshadow - you talk in circles and make my point for me. Who helped make the Taliban become so powerful? We should be a shining example for the world, not it's referee!
B/t/w you did not address my thoughts on Bin Laden> Just what would you have us do to get him when he is hiding out in a country that will not give him up? Bomb them.. start a war? See, you make no sense.
Who knows? We don't even know what the situation is... Our government hasn't even called them on it yet! And with their attitude change since 9-11 ( you are aware that they have given some assistance to us in Afghanistan? ) it maybe able to be solved diplomatically! But none of us will know, until we at least start begin going after him.
Ron Paul wants to issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal which would encourage the Pakistanis to turn against bin Ladin and either capture or kill him. This makes a lot of sense. Basically the only way to get him out of Pakistan without going to war would be to use mercenaries.
No, I mean why do you have to have the government take care of you. I have worked very hard all my life for the right to buy my on health care, have my on retirement eventually and don't depend on the GOV. to take care of me. We gave millions and millions to the reconstruction of Germany, France, Uk not too mention all the humanitarian aide for Aides in Africa, Tsnammi victims etc. etc. etc. Are you actually saying we supported militarly all the Dictators in the World? Get real dude
"why do you have to have the government take care of you"
What are you talking about? Did you look at the candidate I'm supporting: Ron Paul is not for socialism unlike your choice, Fred Thompson with the CFR!
All funds are not always in the idea of "assistance", especially when we give money with conditions of using it with only specific American companies that, *shocker*, are owned, ran-by, or are employing American Politicians that make these decisions.
We have sent that much or more around the World 13 Billion for aide and it hasn't helped at all. Can't as long as the places we need to help are run by DICTATORS. Can't much go after Bin Laden unless Pakistan agrees to let us into their country, which would put their President in greater peril. And they have NUKES already. If he agrees to this, the whole of Pakistan would be against him and we would be dealing with another terrorist state, but with NUKES
Aide in what form? Are you talking about all the money we spend on Military aide? Where do you think most of the Dictators in power right now came from?
I'll leave you with a quote from FDR talking about a dictator - "Sure he's a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch."
Fred Thompson in 08! Paul is a chicken shit that would leave the rest of the world alone and never interfere. So that means we don't need to provide TRILLIONS of dollars in Economical Aid, Food, Medicine, etc. all over the world. Lets just pretend that places like Darfur are peaceful little countries where GENOCIDE isn't happening. Boy are you dumb
"leave the rest of the world alone and never interfere."
Ron Paul - Is for going after Osama Bin Laden and the people responsible for 9/11. Psst... Look at Pakistan!
"places like Darfur"
These places are sad, very much so! First we need to take care of us, before we can take care of someone else. Plus, the amount we have spent on the war: over $430,826,300,000! To satisfy the world's sanitation and food requirements would cost only US$13 billion!
I would, however, I don't = a country. I imagine if I saw someone being brutally murdered they would also be an American as I live in America. Besides, solving violence with violence is generally a bad idea.
Look, we can't possibly police the entire world. We cannot manage the foreign policy we have. If you want the US to crusade for human rights, let me ask you: Do you think we should invade China? How about Saudi Arabia? Both countries have terrible human rights records.
Well said I think. It's like slapping your child for slapping another child. Pretty childish. But.... In so far as the final outcome, sometimes it's better to be feared than respected. Don't let kindness be mistaken for weakness etc.
I agree our foriegn Policy sucks, but with humanitarian causes like Darfur, its different, in China and Saudi Arabia there isn't much that can be done, and the conditions are not as dire as Sudan. Sudan is different because there are things the US can do, and we are not going to have to worry about foriegn relations our retalliation from the Sudaneese, because for this issue, we actually have the World on our side.
I'd disagree that it's different. The moment we start picking and choosing causes we fight we look we're holding a double standard, and rightfully so. We, it is key not to make an interventionists foreign policy our standard. We don't need to get entangled in the affairs of Sudan, especially militarily. Now, talk to Sudan and other countries about the problem? Sure, that's actually a Libertarian ideal and an ideal the Founders held, but at no point should we get entangled in their affairs.
I agree with you, that foriegn intervention should not be our policy. However, at the same time, I believe there should be exceptions to the rule. When mass genocide is taking place, it is very difficult as a human being to sit idly by and let hundreds of thousands die for insignificant reasons. We could have discussions with the sudaneese, but what logic could persuade a government that kills hundreds of thousands of its own innocent people?
But that is what this war is genocide commited by America. Not just the people in Iraq, but of our own soldiers! All for a lie. It was never any of our business. As Ron Paul says be an example. The only way to do that is to leave and restore the Constitution & Liberty in America then live free and allow our neighbors to live free.
Also, sanctions don't help anyone or anything, they just hurt civilians and the common person and cause a degrading of the standard of living, starvation, and death.
Sanctions do help people, that's why we have them. they save civliians that would otherwise be killed. by sanctioning governments we are basically teaching governments that there are somethings they can not do, not even to their own people. The death from starvation is perfectly controllable by the government, it just has to relent.
The more I thought about it, the more I began to think that sanctions are pretty foolish, they have done little to Cuba or any other country that comes to mind. I am really interested though, as to what can be done to deter genocide.
I'm glad to hear that. It can actually be argued that the Iraq sanctions, which killed thousands of people, are a key element of our foreign policy that has in part caused the hatred which cause terrorists attacks to be carried out against us.
As for Sudan, I understand the want to help and any short of the US actually getting entangled in their affairs I support. Talking to them is fine. There's also lots of charities concerning this which you can donate to to help. I've donated myself.
Most of the pressure we are putting on Sudan is through non-violent sanctions, I actually support Bush's view on this. I think it is one of the few things he is actually doing right. We are not sanctioning Sudan based on their human rights RECORDS, we are sanctioning them based on their current situation. Currently, Sudan is much worse off than both Saudi Arabia and China, and it is much easier to sanction a country that holds little economic value.
