Also not mentioned in the video is how scientists did not know how the plates moved. We now know that they move from the convection currents of hot magma in the mantle. Deeper magma is heated and thus becomes less dense and rises, pushing on the plates; then the magma cools as it rises and gets more dense and sinks again, thus starting the cycle over.
