A franks is a one piece derrick not a split and who ever posted the comment about locking the slips while swabbing is a retard you land the hanger before you swab
There is a mathematical equation just for this. With a 2 inch cylinder, it will lift 346lbs of weight with 110psi on the air system. Of course ya hafta take into acct fluid in the well, stripper or no stripper, rust, etc. So You should use the 346 as a guideline and trip possibly double that amount with the lock engaged in case of a well full of KCL: Every GOOD roughneck shakes and locks and every GOOD driller, makes him do it. Nuff said. Canadian riggin is the top in the world. I know.
I did that crap for 3 years, one as roughneck and two as derrick. Now I work as an electrician. The oilpatch is a shitty place to work full of uneducated drug addicts and asshole rednecks. They seem to always need fresh labourers cuz a lot of them get injured, hooked on drugs or burnt out. The wages don't do a hell of a lot either when you are off for 4 or 5 months straight some years. Fuck it. Not worth it.
vincent- worken on rigs isnt for everyone its something you have to enjoy dont get me wrong the moneys why you get in it but i would still rather work on a rig for the same money i would get at a 9-5 job, there is no challange to a 9-5 job and when you work on a rig it is a big part of your life i love getting paid to bull shit with my buddies all day - im not beaten on yea im just saying if thats the way u feel about it the oil fields not for u
My hub works the rigs, and still has time to have a life. He might not have a life like he would workin a 9-5 job, but then he wouldn't be happy in a job he hates... Duno what you're talking about, but I wouldn't change anything about our life. He works hard all day at a job he loves which allows for me to stay home take care of the family and then when he comes home he's able to enjoy his life.
your not loosing any time locking the slips, what ever it takes to get the job done safely and economically efficient. I would say well done gents
