you have to report it. Even if the school shooting was not reported by mainstream media , cho's video would have found its way on youtube or some other video hosting site. Why hide this event? Have you ever asked the question that maybe society wants to see a school shooting rather than talk about or even acknowledge mental illness? Cho sueng-hui would have carry out the shootings if it did not bring him immediate widespread attention.Blame him but blame society as well .
If it weren't for the people watching this crap instead of flipping the channel or turning off the tv the media wouldn't be pulling off this stuff.. As long they get the higher ratings they will continue to do this, don't blame the media, blame the people for putting up with it!
Americans love violent news. We love watching car chases in california and hear about a roof caving in and killing people. The news networks know this and prey upon this weakness.
There's always the reporter John Stossel, he doesn't take the traditional way of reporting the news. Oh yeah, and you should have said "infamous" which means he's famous, but not for a good thing. Other than that I still agree with your point of view.
Ban gun free zones do they stop the nuts, or the people who might stop them. And the Media errrrrrr how many times did they show those planes crashing into the WTC while the Arabs danced and cheered.
This is pretty good in both content and the concise nature of what's discussed. I entirely agree with you about how too often, blame and responsibility that should rest entirely with the criminal are instead shifted to inaniment objects and other forms of media, and that this is folly in the worst way possible. As for the news media, it's pretty obvious that it's ceased to be about the facts. These people use human tragedy to garner ratings, and it's as simple as that, and it's digusting.
As an aspiring journalist and a former NIU student (for some summer courses anyway), thanks for the video. I don't agree with you on gun control, but I think you made some excellent points, especially about the media. Thanks for the video and take care.
Its to bad people dont get more involved in the lives of people in there communitys.
Most people know why this type of killing happens. They just choose to not make it their problem until they are directly effected by it. Or their the victim.
By the way, I'm not talking about violence or video games or anything, just the general tone of the rat race and rapidly disappearing humanity in a cold, technological society.
I think you also need to examine that although 'evil' people may always exist, a lot of them are made worse by the state of modern society that crushes individuality and makes people completely oblivious, passive numbskulls. I don't condone his actions, and I certainly agree with you on the media; I had the exact same reaction. The sad part is that if we do not focus on personal responsibility and society, and don't think that all of this will keep repeating.
You're pretty damn accurate on what is going on. You're right, our current media is fucked up. You're right, i play Hitman and Devil May Cry, i know the lyrics to the soundtrack in Devil May Cry, none of that stuff makes me want to kill people.
Brother, you are so on... My wife and I were saying the same things as we watched the news. Its such a shame that things like this take place but whats worse is the way the media reports all the wrong things when a "tradgity" happens.
Keep rocking the Tube man. you have a new suscriber!

I know I was a bit late watching these. Still getting used to the youtube message system and such. Anyway, I really enjoyed your 3 videos. It was well worth my time. You talk like a real person, and it's almost like listening to a friend talk to me in the same room. Keep up the great videos, man, and I'll keep watching them.
You had me with your Paris Hilton analysis, and hooked me with these three videos. It was a bit long, but you said some very good stuff that many of us were thinking. And by the way, I just subscribed. I look forward to seeing more from you. You are clearly thoughtful and articulate. A pleasant change from most of the things being posted these days.
Thank you for your thoughtful presentation of the human toll this tradgedy took. I will pray for those children today. Once seen, it is hard to get out of your mind.
theboringdispatcher mentioned you, so I came to take a look. The first thing to catch my eye, was the title of this series of videos because I have very strong feelings and opinions about all three subjects. I watched all three and read all of the comments. All I can say is Bravo to your videos and your responses to the comments. I'm a new subscriber.
Amen, brother! I think the media should be held to standards similar to the ones they have about not publishing the names of minors or victims of sexual assault - they should be limited in what they could put on the screen. And one phrase I wish could be banned from the media lexicon? "What went through your mind when...." UGHH! Good job on all three vids, man!
Hey Allen. In a way this is real. You have revealed a real part of yourself. My family can't just hop over and have a brb-Q with yours, buts its real. I hope this isn't boring but I won't argue with anything you said. This is something valuable you shared and should be treated with respect. Just quiet agreement I wish to share.
It's easier to place blame than to deal with real emotions. I can't believe the news and talk shows still place blame on video games, then they are saying guns. I tell ya rage, hatred, and violence are far more dangerous than guns or video games.
i was in grade 11 when the shooting at columbine happened. then shortly after there was on in my neighboring province taber, alberta. back then you thought maybe it would be an isolated event, but now, its become a tragic happening. i can't imagine going to school and being afraid of being attacked by a fellow student. and by the time i have children, who knows what it will be like. what are your thoughts, JustA11en, on sending your children to school?
i definitely agree... with 'proper guidance'. but as parents we can only give that guidance so far... who knows what kind of kids they are exposed to at school. for a while now i have been thinking about home schooling...
I think home schoolng can be effective, given the right situation.
(With a ton of family support & patience.) But I do think that in smaller families, it can be very limiting for social development. I have 2 cousins that were home schooled. They are smart young adults, but I think they have had a harder time dealing with the outside world because of it.
i agree. there has to be a lot of outside interaction as well. i still have memories today of things that teachers did/said to me when i was in elementary school that 'traumatized' me at the time. and still, to this day, i don't think it should have happened. but, i was a really sensitive kid. to each their own, i guess.
The media is giving the people what they want...not you..not me...and hopefully not some others...but there is nothing that is sacred or off limits anymore and that is the sad truth...remember the Faces of Death videos...I've never nor will I ever watch them...anyone who has is useless..and things have gotten way more out of hand since they came out..
Many moons ago I was a bartender someone came in with a gun I dove underneath the bar I heard a shot I shit myself . The shot was in the air no one was hurt the bar was full no one try to stop him because they were to busy hugging the floor.
My heart hurts for you & yours. I'm sorry it was so close. I can understand why you would want to let some time pass, as I also wear my heart on my sleeve, & I know the 1st words are not always the easiest to say.
Uhhhh... it's not gonna fit. PM coming your way ...
The argument says that a majority of people don't like guns, but the Constitution was NOT designed to benefit the majority, it was designed to benefit ALL PEOPLE. Our government was designed to protect those rights - Which damnit are getting flushed down the toilet one by one.
Before we ask our politicians to change the Bill of Rights we should consider what we're actually allowing to happen. If we get rid of an Amendment we disagree with, eventually a larger vote will get rid of one you do agree with.
I'm sorry, but people are ignorant about guns and assault weapons. I can take a simple hunting rifle, put a new scope on it and it's classified as an assault rifle in under 30 seconds.
I did a video right after as well, Where I talked about the media and gun control. I guess you can say it was knee jerk but I agree with about the media, They make celebs out of dangerous people. All for ratings.
Thank you for showing us your heart and opening yourself up. I appreciate it buddy. Perhaps a PM or private video is to come a bit later. For now I just need to sit here and listen to the beauty of the birds chirping - in this realty of mine.
Allen, Thank you for this amazing video series. THIS is the reason I watch your videos and consider you a YT friend...your rational way to look at things. There are many points I want to make on your video, but I am pretty overwhelmed by it right now.
hey allen, i just finished watching all 3 of your videos. very touching and thoughtful. it wasn't guns that did this, it was 1 psycho who wanted to get 'famous' that's all. and if anyone should be blamed other then him, it's the media, they had way too much control over this entire situation
I think its ok for the media to make sure we have access to all sides of that storey. I have a right to be informed. Its up to me to deside what I do with that information. Remember the Planes on 911 or the shock&Aww in Bagdad footage? We need to see that and how we use it is our responcability. Media needs to show us MORE NOT LESS!
There is without a doubt another broken person out there willing to hurt others and I hope he or she doesn't have easy access to firearms. I don't believe that the current gun laws are reasonable and I'm a gun owner a hunter and a former member of the NRA. There needs to be changes made in the way handguns and ammo are made available and as long as they are sold with so little oversight gun control will always be part of the story and IMO the media is right to pound away at gun control.
agreeing to disagree is fine by me. I'm one of those strange people who doesn't watch T.V., IMO commerical T.V. is evil, I gave it up years ago and I've never missed it. I get my news almost completely through text derived sources written news is less sensational and more fact driven then T.V. so your anger against the media coverage of gun control is something I've missed, but it is a subject that is going to be talked about and possibly voted on someday in our lifetime, I hope.
Good videos, I agree with everything you said. Yeah, I was the same as you growing up with videos games and in the army as well. You are right with everything single thing that you said, I hope people really listen.
Thank you Allen. What you said was from the heart and not from passion. It is obvious that you feel passionately about this, and your message is clear on several issues. But you have taken that passion and given it a clear, reasonable voice.... that reaches many people. Best of your videos yet.
Like it or not, but crazy and irrational people have become famous throughout history. The bible has plenty of these in it from Nebuchadnezzar to Herod to name a couple.
And who is one of the most talked about, studied, and has the most documentaries about him? Adolph Hitler, the king of irrational thinking.
He didn't do this to become famous. He became infamous because he done this. And there is a difference.
You couldn't have said any of this better!! You are an amazing man...thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about this with us. I myself totally agree with you!
True journalistic integrity died when somebody decided to commercialize the news and turn it into an entertainment industry full of competing franchises.
I just watched all 3 video's. You'll never lose me my friend. Your thoughtful words and conclusions is exactly how I feel. You were able to put those into words that touched me. Bravo
this is why you are awesome you probably have no idea how many people you have touched with your video ... i concider you a friend and a brother in humanity and this series of videos has shown me that you have a heart of gold ... and your vids are far from crappy
Thanks for the support Roger. I have lost four subs already. The number doesn't bother me. It does bother me, that they either didn't get what I was trying to say, or can't relate with these vids, at all.
Thank you. I appreciate your support. By finding alternative sources. That is part of the reason they are pushing the acceptable limits. Ratings are down.
JustA11en...you are a God among men. You go...you fucking say what you want! The person who tries to stop you is wrong. You don't just speak for yourself, you speak for many! You're one of the best kinds of people...
A11en, you're right, the media COULD care less....they just see it as ratings and getting their "numbers" through the roof. Your voice is making me want to cry....just listening to the points you are making....jeezis man....once again you hit that nail, smack dab on the head. A11en, thank you for taking the time to speak your mind, your a brilliant man. <3
True wisdom is usually found in the most humble and unexpected places.
Thank you.

There are many points I want to make on your video, but I am pretty overwhelmed by it right now.
anakin1814 4 years ago
hey allen, i just finished watching all 3 of your videos. very touching and thoughtful. it wasn't guns that did this, it was 1 psycho who wanted to get 'famous' that's all. and if anyone should be blamed other then him, it's the media, they had way too much control over this entire situation
take care man,
Jonathan

I think its ok for the media to make sure we have access to all sides of that storey. I have a right to be informed. Its up to me to deside what I do with that information. Remember the Planes on 911 or the shock&Aww in Bagdad footage? We need to see that and how we use it is our responcability. Media needs to show us MORE NOT LESS!

Thanks in advance for spell checking that comment

I'm sorry, but this is not about politics or conspiracies, for me.
The facts could have been reported without the glamorization of the killer.
His message has been repeated, for no reason other than ratings, & morbid curiosity.
JustA11en 4 years ago
There is without a doubt another broken person out there willing to hurt others and I hope he or she doesn't have easy access to firearms. I don't believe that the current gun laws are reasonable and I'm a gun owner a hunter and a former member of the NRA. There needs to be changes made in the way handguns and ammo are made available and as long as they are sold with so little oversight gun control will always be part of the story and IMO the media is right to pound away at gun control.

Ender: We will have to agree to disagree.
A madman will not be held to any standard, or any law.
It is the media's job to report, not make the news.
JustA11en 4 years ago
agreeing to disagree is fine by me.

I concur with all you have said. I think you did a great job expressing your opinion and feelings on this subject.
I'm still watching you :)

I concur with most of your statement. I do belive he was fully aware of the implications, & celebrity...
famous or imfamous that would come with his actions.

True journalistic integrity died when somebody decided to commercialize the news and turn it into an entertainment industry full of competing franchises.

Thanks for the support Roger. I have lost four subs already. The number doesn't bother me. It does bother me, that they either didn't get what I was trying to say, or can't relate with these vids, at all.
JustA11en 4 years ago
One of your best vids Allen, though I doubt that face is important to you. We're in 100% agreement about how the media handled this shooting..
My next question is what can you or I do to prevent the media from irresponsibly inciting more psycopathic behavior?
Edustin 4 years ago
Thank you. I appreciate your support. By finding alternative sources. That is part of the reason they are pushing the acceptable limits. Ratings are down.
