you have to report it. Even if the school shooting was not reported by mainstream media , cho's video would have found its way on youtube or some other video hosting site. Why hide this event? Have you ever asked the question that maybe society wants to see a school shooting rather than talk about or even acknowledge mental illness? Cho sueng-hui would have carry out the shootings if it did not bring him immediate widespread attention.Blame him but blame society as well .

There's always the reporter John Stossel, he doesn't take the traditional way of reporting the news. Oh yeah, and you should have said "infamous" which means he's famous, but not for a good thing. Other than that I still agree with your point of view.

This is pretty good in both content and the concise nature of what's discussed. I entirely agree with you about how too often, blame and responsibility that should rest entirely with the criminal are instead shifted to inaniment objects and other forms of media, and that this is folly in the worst way possible. As for the news media, it's pretty obvious that it's ceased to be about the facts. These people use human tragedy to garner ratings, and it's as simple as that, and it's digusting.

I think you also need to examine that although 'evil' people may always exist, a lot of them are made worse by the state of modern society that crushes individuality and makes people completely oblivious, passive numbskulls. I think the media should be held to standards similar to the ones they have about not publishing the names of minors or victims of sexual assault - they should be limited in what they could put on the screen. i was in grade 11 when the shooting at columbine happened. then shortly after there was on in my neighboring province taber, alberta. back then you thought maybe it would be an isolated event, but now, its become a tragic happening. i can't imagine going to school and being afraid of being attacked by a fellow student. and by the time i have children, who knows what it will be like. what are your thoughts, JustA11en, on sending your children to school?

(With a ton of family support & patience.) But I do think that in smaller families, it can be very limiting for social development. I have 2 cousins that were home schooled. They are smart young adults, but I think they have had a harder time dealing with the outside world because of it.

i agree. there has to be a lot of outside interaction as well. i still have memories today of things that teachers did/said to me when i was in elementary school that 'traumatized' me at the time. and still, to this day, i don't think it should have happened. but, i was a really sensitive kid. to each their own, i guess.

There is without a doubt another broken person out there willing to hurt others and I hope he or she doesn't have easy access to firearms. I don't believe that the current gun laws are reasonable and I'm a gun owner a hunter and a former member of the NRA. There needs to be changes made in the way handguns and ammo are made available and as long as they are sold with so little oversight gun control will always be part of the story and IMO the media is right to pound away at gun control.
