That he is! I know him as well. I and some of my students are participating in one of his tameshigiri seminars on the 9th of May. Then I will get my shinken back as well - Emil has been repairing it for me. Have a nice weekend!
Tatami are usually only purchased in 50 or more quantity. I wouldn't be surprised if they had cut 50 that day. I have seen it done, especially with more than one person.
Why don't these guys cut while drawing? Not really much iaido if you draw, then cock the sword, then cut. Iaido should be draw and cut at the same time if I'm not mistaken.
We do also cut directly from the draw but it is not part of our basic program. The purpose of these kind of one handed cuts from the draw was not really to cut through something but to hurt or to occupy the oponent to be safe while drawing. Mostly these cuts did only scratch or cause a reaction and the following cuts did the job. To cut one handed from the draw we practice to improve our skills but we understand that it is a little bit away from what it originally meant.
yeah your right, these aren't good iai's they make, they do it slow and what they do is only kiritsuke's. but a iai needs a nukitsuke, kiritsuke, chiburi and a noto, but they only do 25% of what should happen with a iaido iai
nice cutting and all butt those battlecries sound kinda... extremely silly

OOFUJISAN 8 months ago
@OOFUJISAN its hard to cut if its not hold in place. they are just hacking it coz its stuck to the stand
shadowremorse 4 months ago
@shadowremorse sure thing that... but even using a makiwara it is hard... it must be really sharp.

How much did those katanas cost? (I've been doing martial arts for 2 years. and i'm just curious)

My school would hate me if I lifted my leg off the ground. I would be doing cuts till my arsm really did fall off.

I love that chiburi the long hair fellow does, is it a traditional one or is it his own design?
RebelSword 2 years ago
The chiburi is traditional! We don´t invent things on our own. :-)

If no one ever saw the beauty and skill of the martial arts it would die. Inspiration comes in many shapes and forms.

seishin48 4 years ago
These are no beach mats, these are tatami omote. An "Ippon maki" is normally made by one tatami.
