  • Great lift! Your twice as strong as me, i think im strong sometimes but not when i watch vids like these ;]

  • Hi Terry,

Awesome lift and i wonder if you used a hook grip or not. I use a mixed grip but for some reason it just doesn't feel good like the double overhand grip. But to menage heavy weight like that for more then 1 rep i would have to use a hook grip or straps.

I have read that straps weaken your grip strength so that's why i went to using mixed grip.

What do you think? hook mixed wrap?

    Have a nice day

  • @andcbwk look up mikhail koklyaev,he is the worlds best overhand deadlifter without straps and other equipment, besides a lifting belt.

  • @Henzzman He's great!

  • It sounds like a gunshot when you drop the weight lol

  • Awesome Deadlift Bro!

  • hello.. if you dont mind me asking.. what is for the belt for? im really ignorant im sorry.. i just want to know

  • Incredible grip. Congrats bro.

  • Terry, does rolling the bar towards you just before lifting help? The plates at my gym are those octagonal ones, so I can't do that!

  • @fatgordon Just in case he never see ur comment.... round plates does help ( not on the lift) but on the stance you are using,,, if your plate are octogonal you might no get it at the place you really want the bar to be... Rolling the bar helps to see where is the best angle to lift (( well for me it works...)) but I dont think I can get +1 pound doing that...

  • A really good lift (understatement lol).

The problem I see with many strongmen who don't win the WSM is they are not athletic enough.

Obviously men like terry here are stupidly strong and if most of us could lift half what they lift we would be well happy.

But think of past champions like Jouko Ahola, Mariusz Pudzianowski, Magnús Ver Magnússon and Magnus Samuelsson..... they all had really good aerobic capabilities.

I think a major aspect is to loose the gut and increase the speed.

  • @deano888888 I think being athletic is just as important as being strong. I'm not sure if you are directing the lose the gut and increase the speed thing to me but I like to think I am one of the fastest strongmen around. I will be the first to admit I have a few spare pounds but have regularly beaten Mariusz on speed events. I think people mistake body types for not being athletic. Z (the current WSM) has a fair size gut on him yet he was winning speed events at WSM for the last 2 years.

  • @terryhollands Thanks for responding. I obviously understand that with the absolute massive amount of calories a person like you would need to consume for your training, keeping lean in next to impossible.

You mention you are one of the fastest strongmen on the circuit, I'm glad to hear it and hope you don't neglect this aspect of your training. The stronger your heart (trained thru cv), the harder and longer you can train and compete.

  • @deano888888 i'm not a fan of saying your heart is trained through so called "cardiovascular work" i'd rather call it endurance work. weight training with no "cardio" is most definitely going to help your hearts health. picking up a big weight is certainly going to get the heart pumping. =]

  • @terryhollands Terry...don't waist your time giving explanations of if is good or not have some gut if people want to see abs and ripped bodies let them go to a Bodybuilding show if they want to see real men lift real weights see a strongman in action...just like you

  • @deano888888 Just because guys aren't ripped does not mean they are not athletic. There are a few reasons I have not won WSM yet and I know what they are and I am working on them. The main reason being my overhead press which I am working hard to correct. Thanks for the comments though mate and nice to have a healthy discussion regarding things like this!

  • @GermanicPrussian it is pretty common knowledge i smoke and along with plenty of other pro sportsmen i do enjoy a drink every once in a while this doesn't mean i am not athletic.

  • Very impressive lift Terry, Hope to see you win WSM this year. Do you have any tips on how to break through any sticking points that you have? It would be great to have some advice from such an experienced lifter...

  • Hey man Im a 16 year old powerlifter, I just started lifting last year, and im thinking about doing strongman somewhere down the road. Ive got good leg power ( 535 lb squat, 485 lb deadlift) and decent chest (285 lb) so seeing you get big weight like this makes me pumped that the world can share so many great things, and this is my favorite thing ever. Stay strong dude.

  • How come you Deadlift with your knees and ankle buckling in? Is it a medical/physical issue or is it a technique which works for you or something?

  • Excellent, excellent, excellent! Best of luck!

  • jesus christ terry, sounded like a gunshot when that hit the ground!, awesome work !

  • damn yer a beast

  • Hi Terry, can you do a favour?... if you come across a guy called Les Mctavish, can you squash him for me.

  • absolutely amazing. the pudz-as awesome as he is-can`t do that. you are on your way, Terry.

  • That is incredible lifting bud, very impressive.

  • terry

what did you do to bring your lockout strenght up.?

your lockout has improved by miles..

    good stuff.

  • Thats good deadlifting Terry, given the fact that you are 6'6, makes deadliftting so much harder. Hope you win WSM next year!

  • wow! this is the channel of terry hollans for real? or is a fan channel?

  • That's an awesome pull Terry. I really think the English rugby team could do with you in the front row! Good luck for the WSM.

  • Well the lift was a training lift and in comp you get a down signal when you are locked out! there isn't a time it has to be held for

  • @terryhollands hmm i saw in compettiotns they hold it like a second after the lockout like to see u control the weight or so

  • how did u get the belt to fit u or is it the other way around?

  • Not sure I understand your question! It is a lever belt if you are wondering why I didn't have to put it through a loop?

  • @LlLnig ha ha ha!

  • Thats 913 pounds, that has to be the highest strongman raw demonstrated so far.

  • 2313igbill; no you don't but I think we'd all be lying to ourselves if it was claimed you didn't have to to make it to the top.

Kind of the same as with bodybuilding.

  • do you need to use steroids to be a strongman?

  • your a beast Terry much luck to this year!!!

  • nice one, good luck in malta this year.

C5 sure are bastards, they dont want to air BSM but are happy to milk the previous years for all their worth.

  • nice 1 terry, think you can win this year? speaking of which when is it?

  • It is just over 3 weeks! I will do my best to try win!! I am back on track after a poor year last year! Whether I can win or not is another matter! If I hit my best on every event I will be happy! I just hope my best is better than other people competing!

  • that's a monster deadlift alone, but without straps... i wanna shake your hand for that, but at the same time i wouldn't really like to!! :D grip like a vice, nice one Terry!

  • fuckin strong!

  • huge grip strengh, well done terry, good luck for BSM an WSM

  • Really good lift. What kg plates do you use? and are they them olympic rubber ones or metal?

  • They are a mixture of rubber and metal! they go 50, 2x20, 50, 2 x 25 and then 5 and collars

  • terry i just looked at your profile are you 186 kg thats scary big please give mma a thought

  • only 171kg now!

  • only lol im 110kg and i thought that was heavy lol

  • ENGLISH POWER!!! (oops am I not being politically correct? Well my background is Polish so you cant mess with me PC police) Good one Terry!!!!!

  • nice terry i thought oli thompson a while ago at zt fight night do u ever think about mma

  • If I was gonna do it I would wanna be good so it would take alot of training! I don't have time to do that at the moment! Who knows though, maybe one day! I have a pretty good Martial arts background so it's not something I would rule out

  • Absolutely brilliant terry really well done! thats probably the second heaviest deadlift ive ever seen raw!

  • If you did wrestling wrestling wrestling you would be a awesome opponant

  • I used to to Judo as youngster to a good level, I was Kent, Southern area champion and also got a Bronze at the British champs. Mind you was quite a while ago and my fitness is not up to scratch!

  • that could be fixed your still young enough you would be so heavy terry i dont know who could grapple you ande you got good strength just some wrestling techniques and a bit of all round knowlede and you would be a monster in the cage seriously you should give it thought terry

  • Nice job!

  • WOW

  • you should move house more often terry , great pull !!
