By far you are the best teacher that I have ever seen.I don't know how or why but you have a way of explaining everything that even a 4 year old could understand.Thank you for existing.
Best "Blues" instructor on youtube! Thanks, mate! I'm 67, and just started learning to play guitar just over a year ago to help ward off the "oldtimeers" diseases. :) I was kinda in a rut, but your lessons have taken my playing to another level that I would not have obtained had it not been for you. My deepest gratitiude. Again, thanks a gazillion. :D)
Really good vidios ! i have search for this cind of vidios for a time now and finaly found yours ! just sayin thanks ! your really good at explaining, at least i understood and ir really worked for me !!
What I really love about your videos is that you prove that you don't have to be a theory freak or technical virtuoso to be a great guitarist. I think I'm definitely gonna check out B.B. King - you got so much feel out of just 3 notes.
You are not the only one in term of your music idols or style of playing,For example me and my friends go every friday at our friends house and we chill there and jam blues. But one day some metal musician camed and he playing crazy things like really fast sweeping and shredding, something that i understand that i wouldnt probably ever grasp under my fingers.Everybody was impressed except me.I just looked at my friend who was silently soloing slow but soulful. Now that my friends..That impressed me
very nice, this helped me out a lot. writing my own song right now, and needed to do an easy but not boring guitar solo. going to practice this technique. thanks man!
I like the way you teach these lessons. They're very simple to understand and the example and application of each lesson is very helpful. I have checked your website but I noticed you only teach Blues style of playing. I'd like to learn rock style playing. Would you be offering this type of lesson in your site?
wow thanks for your post this video helped a lot you make it so simple thumps up^, liked and put in my play list with more of your vids :) great job :)
@dannj347 - yeah that's a common mistake a lot of people make.. try to do too much. If you think of music (soloing) like a language, that would be the equivalence of someone who just rambles on and on when they're trying to tell you something - versus someone who puts it in simple and elegant terms. Remember, guitar is a lot like golf, least amount of strokes to get the ball into the hole.
@dannj347 simple is the best way to play.have something to say with your solo..not something to show. Then peaple will listen cuz you have something to say and not show.I have been doing that for years and it works great thats why this 3 note solo is so great..cuz it does have something to say.
Hi. I`m Clive Page from Durban, South Africa. Thanks very much, Brian. Active Melody has not only inspired me, but also taught me stuff where I was previously lacking!
Great video! I'm guilty of trying to do "too much" a lot of times. Thanks for bringing me back to Earth and reminding me that good sound doesn't always equal lots of notes.
@RooRiff - Hey man, happens to the best of us. To me it's ALL about the phrasing, i think of it as someone singing.. so when I hear someone shredding all over the neck.. i just can't figure out how someone would sing that :)
Yeah, seems a lot of people miss the point and try too hard to be impressive, versus singing with their instrument. I love watching guys like Clapton and Robert Cray play because they will stop playing in the middle of a solo and you can see them take a breath and then continue - it's truly singing.. that's what it's all about to me.
awesome, thanks man

CORRECTIONS especially for newbies
@ 3;25 or so he says the E mn pent and the E major pent are the "exact same notes"
he meant the same pattern I would be sure as the notes are different
good lesson otherwise

I've watched a ton of videos, bought a truckload of books over the years, but you make more sense than any of them. Great lessons.

can good guitar solos just be done in one scale then?

rafaelg45 1 year ago
so when you shifted to the E mn pent the notes changed to e g a
so then your intervals were the same
right?
inotherwords
a is to g as e is to g the way that e is to C# in the major pent
lookylooky2006 1 year ago
You explain this real well
so let me ask u this:
C# E F# out of the E major pent
now what is the theory or your theory on picking those 3?
I know that the whole thing is always based on how one sounds off the other
but what is the theory if it can be explained briefly
now that I am playing I am interested in why /the theory
thanks
