Sweep picking is hard but clean sweeping is even harder, I tend to cheat and tie a sock around the top of the neck so I don't get any unwanted pick up lol. You should all try it, it works a treat! just remember when you record a video using the sock trick try not to get the top of the neck in the picture or we will all know haha

I got 6 string sweeping down after about 1 and a half years, I find doing 3 strings quickly harder than 6 string sweeps quickly though. I'm ambidextrous though, so that prob helped me massively when I was learning the co-ordination thing.

Im self taught, and I could sweep pick after 2 years I think. Try learning the intro to Concerto by Cacophony, I learnt that when I was 17 and thats what got me started with sweeping.
