  • that's not a quick answer to that, at least for me

  • No? Not even a slightly shortened version?

  • pronunciation and spelling

  • Same then...

  • varying degrees of desperation?

  • lol

  • nothing really.

  • Indeed.

  • I'm from the United States, so this is how I would interpret the three words.

A Toast: a recognition of something positive, hoping that it will continue to shed positivity on particular individuals.

A Wish: a recognition of an ideal situation that is often times too far reaching to partake in such an endevour.

A Prayer: a way to obtain a goal without putting in any effort.

  • Fascinating interpretation. :)

  • Upper class, middle class, and lower class.

I guess that puts me in the lower class.

  • nice.

  • lol :)

  • your right, we should ban all 3.:)

  • Now did I say that?

  • nO,I did......I'm just so reactionary!

  • lol!

  • A toast is for something that has happened, or is about to happen

A wish is for something you really want to happen &

A prayer is for something you hope will happen, or not happen, often to somebody else :)

  • Happen or a desire for happening being what they have in common?

  • I guess so. I hadn't noticed that i'd written "happen" as much as i did! :)

  • Indeed. However, try saying something so it CAN'T be interpreted that way. It's as good as impossible. I try sometimes and I just end up sounding hopelessly verbally constipated. Imagine someone being sick.

Hope you get bett.... dang. "Hope". No. Let's try again. I wis.... nope. Er...

"I would be delighted if in the near future I were to receive the news that you had fully recovered."

Yeah. That'll do it. But man does that sound pompous. LOL

  • lol! I think it's safe to acknowledge we have intent and desire for certain outcomes. Its human nature. It's the labels we attach to that which seems to cause the trouble.

  • Yes indeed :-)

  • I don't know the answer, but you have a sexy voice.

  • lol Thanks.

  • You always manage to come up with the questions that I never asked...

  • :-)

  • Id say a wish and a prayer are the same thing.

When me and my mates down the pub raise our glasses up and say 'here's for swimming with bow-legged women' i doubt god, fairies or angels are listening.

  • Be careful what you wish for....

  • Hello Cathy.

    A quick answer

    No Difference at all

To me , all are forms of Sympathetic Magic.

  • Hello Michael. Yes.

  • A toast and a wish are the same . Hope for good.

A prarer is a request for good.

  • Interesting. Thanks.

  • .... I rarely toast, wish sometimes, pray daily several times.... :)

  • Do you pray for, or just pray?

  • Quite a lot...?

  • ???

  • A toast is kind of a celebration within a collective agreement, whereas a wish and a prayer are rather more personal, however, prayers can be viewed as more celebratory than wishes, yet they all still have one thing in common; the human spirit...which is indeed oh so precious.

    :-)

  • :-)

  • toasts have the best aftereffects.

  • That would depend.

  • None, there all wishful thinking *****stars; )

  • lol :)

  • to my mind, the only difference is in us finding a difference... if you focus on the feeling behind each and erase the label "wish, prayer, toast" it comes down to a sort of 'inclination'...... Anyhow, that is my 2 cents... I love the way you presented this, i found it both daringl and discreet.

  • I really like your answer. :)

  • One can be burnt whereas the other two can burn you.

  • lol! Toast can burn you too, if you're not careful.

  • Lovely vid!

A toast = wishing someone well. (And good with elderberry jam on it. ; )

A wish = a personal desire or yearning for something. Sometimes upon a star.

A prayer = a plea or request to a higher power/God/Tao/the Universe for something. Is it a waste of time? Or is it a way of focusing and concentrating our specific intent?

They all have one thing in common:

    Hope.

  • Thanks Steven. :)

You ask some really relevant questions, which raise these: Does it matter which of the three we do? Does the outcome differ in any significant way at all?

  • A toast is a showing a good intention towards someone. A wish is a short term request to an unknown/seen benefactor and a prayer is a long term wish to a unknown/seen benefactor.

  • So do you think a prayer needs patience? I ask because it's interesting you've defined a wish as a short term thing and a prayer as a long term one. I've had lifelong wishes. Hmm

  • Yeah I didn't like it either. I guess not everything can be defined in one sentence. Still a wish mostly is an atomic state change or event. Prayer is usually to have overall prosperity. How about that?

  • I think some things defy definition.

  • interesting question,

for me the difference is: difference,

    or, in other words: isolation

    the degree of isolation

  • Interesting answer.

  • i agree.

a toast is public, done in society.

    a wish is private, usually.

a prayer is also private, except for the Spirit.

  • Actually, you raise an interesting point there. You are usually told you can't tell a wish or it won't come true.

  • a toast is an expression of good will with out any pre conceived intension

  • a wish is an intension based on desire, a prayer is an intension based on desire , when you said toast i thought you meant a person who joins in raises his arm with others

  • Yes, I did mean that. Hence the pictures of glasses.

    Thanks. :)
