I always thought this album rocked it's a lost Sabbath gem, people need to listen to the later Sab stuff just like Zeppelin there later stuff rocked as well!!Remember people......The ending is just the beginner!
I really don't know if anyone will send me a nasty message but....Why do I get the feeling that Nirvana riped off a part of this song's sound?....listen to 2:01 to 2:29....
"Im just another back street kid, rock n roll music is the only thing I really dig, cant stop the music going round inside my head, Im a rock n roll soldier gonna play it until Im dead" perfectly discribes my life (and attitude) 100% from when I was about 10 to 15 roaming the streets of Boston w/ my Sabbath tapes and stupid punk ass friends getting to big trouble. I thought that was the best line ever written at the time(funny how fast shit changes)
I was 16 and a complete Sabbath fanatic when this was released, and I must say, it disappointed me. Too many keyboards, and except for "It's Alright" & "All Moving Parts (Stand Still), the lyrics sucked. Although this is one of their better produced albums, the guitar tone was too thin & tinny. It still irks the hell out of me that they never gave us a proper double live album, and no, "Live Evil" most certainly does not count!
@fortheloveoftunes sorry, I was under the weather...but hearing the song a couple times helped me feel a little better dude..tony iommi's guitar playing always cheers me up!
This is one of Sabbath's best albums and it came out the year I was born which was 1976 (which also gave us Led Zeppelin's Presence, Genesis' A Trick of the Tail, Rush's 2112, Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny, KISS' Destroyer, The Eagles' Hotel California (at year's end) among other great albums). Whoever detests the album should be shot! Never Say Die was not bad but I prefer Technical Ecstasy. In fact, TE sold more than NSD and NSD was the worst charting Sabbath album.
Changes isnt just a great Black Sabbath song ,its life.Think of all the ass kicking rock and metal that stemmed from Sabbaths EXPANSION that we might never have heard if CHANGES had not occurred. When Never say die came out I was expanding my own horizons and was listening to alot of Judas Priest Iron Maiden AC DC and anyone else that was following the grandfathers of metals lead!
Well, I lived in the era when this album was created and it was basically ignored a lot. I mean, if someone put it on at a party, they'd let it play. but I think everyone will agree with me when I say that the music on it took a completely different direction from Sabbath's traditional sound. Personally, I loved this music, and I really was amazed by how innovative the band for creating something completely different from any other style that was going on at that time. I still think it's genius
Nevermind that Ozzy was getting ousted and only sings most of the songs. Toni should have left if he wanted a different sound because Ozzy's voice was Black Sabbath. Plat breaking the chains off this cd and youi'll know what I mean. Not to say it's a bad song on it's own.
I'm gonna get a lot of shit from Iommi fans ( Of wich i am) But this sounds like something from queen's first album! And that's not a bad thing because early queen rocked! Dont believe me, Go play any song of the first queen.
Bought this when released and it was a difficult one to get into, punk had arrived and stirred-up music (it needed stirring-up btw) by then, so in some ways this Sabbath album was lost in the rapidly changing, cultural times.
I guarantee that if a band debuted with this album in 1976, that album would have been considered a rock classic. Unfortunately, it was Sabbath who released it, and confused the hell out of everyone. Stand this album alone, and its quite good, and is a good cross-section of late 1970's rock and roll, and what was good AND bad about the music from that era. I think lyrics and production could have been improved on the album, but otherwise pure musical genius!
I can blame the Production though - it kind of screws it all up. Same as with AC/DC's Fly On The Wall - awesome songs and performance, bad record production.
I think this is where Tony started messing with the gears of the band, however this is the Ozzy sound that was on Diary of a Fatman and Blizzard-so It was the begining of the end for Sabbath but Ozzy was breaking out
This album gets slagged a lot, since Sabbath went mainstream rock and temporarily abandoned their doom side. The lyrics were god-awful but the music was rockin'! I still break it out and listen to it when I get on a Sabbath binge. Always thought the cover art was bizarre and didn't know for years that it's supposed to represent two robots having sex while passing on an escalator. I thought they were just being a couple of dickheads. funny though!
@2012JohnGalt Agreed! This isn't a "metal" album, but who cares? It's a very good rock album and shows some of the band's versatility. I'm tired of fans who want bands to essentially stick to a well-defined formula and release the same albums ad infinitum. "She's Gone", for instance, is one of their best ballads as far as I'm concerned.
Punk was just starting to happen big-time, and Black Sabbath had no other choice but attempt to compete! Great track! I have a copy, and I consider it one of their great overlooked/underrated explorations of musical insanity!

What a great song and album. Their 2nd best imo... the best being Never Say Die which expanded even further on this style.
The musicianship was off the charts. Unfortunately they reverted back to much simpler music when Ozzy left.
imo Ozzy's first two albums (especially Diary of a Madman) are better than anything Sabbath did since his departure.
Born Again has a few killer tunes though.
