Perrsonally I never heard anyone with his feel or tone, so I don't really know where he got his inspiration. Great player, none the less. Guthrie is great also, probably better than gottardo technically, but I'd rather listen to gottardo than guthrie.

This guy is the shit man!! His phrasing is sweet and so what if he's tapping all over. I think he did the best job technically and melodically. All of the other guitarists are pretty good technically but Daniele's melodic phrasing is above and beyond the rest.

His tone is very good.But too much pyrotechnic specifically tapping.I as a true guitarist think that we need to have balance between technicalities and melody so that we won't sacrifice the integrity of the song.the chord progression is very common n melodic,ala Miles Davis' 'autumn leaves'.Whos the winner anyway for this contest?I would love to join someday.Good job daniele

Yes, I see the Vai influence, but this contest mostly seemed to be looking for Vai and Satrianni influenced playing. There were exceptions, like Tom Quayle, but mostly the finalists were in the same mode.

see i dont like when guitar players stay within the same mode the whole time. why do that? They shouldve just called this contest "Who can play as much like Vai and Satriani as possible!?" Still all badass nonetheless, but very restrictive of a genre if you ask me. Also, speed doesnt prove skill. The ranges of guitar style are basically limitless, so I dont understand why they all the contestants sounded the same.

I think Vai and Satriani are what a certain type of guitarist like to judge themselves against, just what happens when you try to make anything creative into a competition. Who's the best guitarist is an impossible thing to judge unless you make it about the technical aspects.

Badass playing no doubt, but does it make them "better" than someone like Tony Iommi or evenJack White, people who aren't technically great but make music and rifs that stick in your head.

I've seen Steve Vai a lot of times. Live, with Roth, Whitesnake and solo too. I just don't get the musical similarity at all. I know Dave Celentano was a big tapping influence and Daniele mentions Steve Vai as an influence, but musically he's very different to me.

i really cant see how you dont notice similarities between this kid and steve vai... slow note manipulation, whammy manip./tricks, and acts REAL similar. even after i commented last night, i watched my G3 DVD and re-enforced my opinion that they are alike, ESPECIALLY with the faggy mouth movements and strange 'showmanship' lol. i really dislike guitarists who physically show off or act along with the music. watching Vai do it is extremely creepy. reminds me of an 80s porn star for some reason

Man that was great. What I never get in any competition is the winner is never as good as at least one of the competitors. I looked at the winner and he really is no threat to the judges. This guy most definitely is. Hes got chops, great phrasing, tone, feel, and most importantly an educated ear.
