  • Look how young Ron MacLean looks in 1990!!

  • I think Mark Messier was the main reason why Edmonton Oilers won Stanley Cups, not Wayne Gretzky. Messier won 2 more cups without Gretzky. Gretzky manage make it to finals back in 93 but beat by Montreal. Then he fuck Messier over in NY after Rangers won a cup after 54 years drought.

  • The last Cup win...if only Sather had traded Jimmy Carson at the 89 trade deadline(or sooner) for the Kilma, Graves, Murphy deal it might have been another Cup in 89 instead of that damn upset to LA..the team was still mentally pysched by Gretzky and Carson didn't give two shits for being in Edmonton or winning a Cup Sather originally wanted Robitalle anyways but Gretzky wouldnt accept a trade with Luc going to the Oilers(which says about Carson) and Luc cause he was big reason for that upset.

  • Without a doubt, the greatest hockey club to ever live. Too bad some people choose money over friendship.

  • Gretzky might have been the Greatest Oiler of all time, but I say Mess was the most Valuable Oiler of all time. I live in Montreal and I am a born Habs fan. Get us a Messier and we can win the cup. The cup follows great players like Messier.

  • @boogyshoes20 This definitley true, I would say , Mario and mess are the top three players of the 80's/90's but messier was the most valuble. To win a cup with out Gretzkey proved his importance, than to go to New York and captain a team that (previously) had no heart to the cup in the way he did it was just as extrodinary as any of the previous two's scoring acheivements! by the way, Im from New York and Montreal is the best city in North America, Im a rangers fan but I route for the habs

  • I LOVE THE OILERS!

  • Simply the Best NHL video ever! When hockey was true, when Canadian players played for their City, for the Team and not for money. Now hockey is all politics Canadian team will never win another cup because Canadian players are all on American teams for American bux...

But we have the GOLD MEDAL because you have to be CANADIAN to play for CANADA so CANADA IS THE BEST !:)

  • @Indigochild81 Vancouver might win the Stanley Cup this year, you were saying??? :-p

  • It still amazes me that there was a period between 84-90 when the Cup left Alberta only once. The Cup needs to get won by a Canadian team so despite me being a Calgary fan I will cheer for either the Nucks or the Habs to get the job done this year.

  • That series was an absolute debacle. Bill Ranford was the only reason the oilers won.

  • @9pt9 Games 2, 4 and 5 suggest Bill Ranford wasn't the ONLY reason the oilers won. Those games weren't even close. Games 1 and 3 were.

  • Right before the Rangers bought half the team.

  • I also remember this night and taping it. What a night! I can't believe this was 20 years ago already!

Still have that old vhs somewhere, but now I don't need to go and find it!

  • damn petr klima killed us,lyndon byers was the last ever bruin to score in the stanley cup

  • Andy Moog made a class act move at :52.....especially the thumbs up!!!

  • I wish 06 could've gone differently *sigh*

  • almost 6! too bad

  • Esa Tikkanen. What a legend.

  • now oilers arn't doing so well

  • I was 10 and I had taped this. I never thought I'd get to see it again. Thanks so much for posting this, I have tears in my eyes. Fucking Oilers, they were the kings eh?

  • yeah the way i got it was in 2006 the week before the oilers started the finals agaist stupid carolina CBC showed all 5 of their cup wins in 5 nights in a row...2006 brings tears to my eyes!! damn it

  • I also had this taped when I was 9 and am pretty sure I wore out that VHS. Heard the song and immediately thought of this video. So glad you posted it!! 2006 still brings tears to my eyes... had to make a video about!

  • @CanadaBoy1619

Talk about sad stories my friend; This season they re-aired Game 7 of the '06 Finals, and even though I KNEW how it ends, I punished myself and watched the entire game again, just to catch a glimpse of that Oilers magic! Alas, we know how it ended. I BLEED Orange & Blue, but I have to be honest... On THAT night, the Hurricanes deserved it.

We had deserved it more, We would've appreciated it more, and We would've cherished it more... but on THAT night, they wanted it more!

  • I watched this game when I was 13 with my dad and afterwards he gave me a beer to toast the win I so stoked

  • @jsb779 good for u :) Its always cool to find gems like this from our childhoods :)

  • @jsb779 I remember taping this after the first chorus and watching it religiously for 4 months until my brother accidentally deleted it to tape the decision of who hosted the 96 Summer Olympics. I still have the memories of Petr Klima's hook of Janney being interrupted by "the city of ATLANTA" First time tonight seeing this vid start to finish uncut and uninterupted. AMAZING!!

  • I was 6 years old when I got into hockey - this was the first nhl season I followed - Ive been an Oilers fan ever since :)

  • bill ranford!

  • sweet vid, just wish the b's had won..

  • i hear you brother, its ok were gonna win this year, or real soon, remember Boston...Were the City Of Champions

  • tell me that wouldn't be sweeter than the pats winning or the celtics or red sox

  • Hell Yeah!!! you know im a Sox fan but no were close to how much im a Bruins fan, but it pisses me off when were the #1 NHL team, and going into the playoffs and friggen NESN plays Red Sox crap.

  • i friggin hope so,we should beat montreal in the 1st round in 5,philly in round 2 maybe in 6 then maybe the caps in the east finals, then i hope we meet detroit in the finals, that shouldnt be to tough look what we did to them nov 27,4-1 win.

  • ya I would love to kill that Detroit Dynasty, I hate Detroit!

  • lol Edmonton is actually the city of champions it's even on the sign when you drive in. (Note this was in the 80s when the Oilers were winning cups and Eskimos were winning Grey Cups, Edmonton was where its at) This is true I'm a Flames fan too

  • always love to see the oilers win it without the Gretz...wasn't just him that made the oilers!

  • I wasnt born yet but i wish i was... seeing all those great players

  • Oilers make us proud! Flames suck shit! their fans should all turn into Oilers fans! hahaha

  • I also wonder... If the edmonton ownership had the funds to keep messier and crew together could they have beaten the trapping style of the nj devils?

  • Hello, I remember watching the 90 finals here in boston marveling at the talent on edmonton's team. after the passage of time, i realized that i was looking at the equivalent of the 86 celtics or the 85 lakers in basketball in the talent assembled on one team. as an honest boston fan then and now looking back on that series, only bourque and neely could have started on edmonton's team that year. i really wished neely could have joined bourque in winning a cup.

  • Mark My Words. Winnipeg NHL Franchise for 10-11 Season.

  • don't hold your breath the anti canadian gray buttman bond to say no way jose

  • @Hiei2k7

well, never happen. But predict Winnipeg will be back in 2011.

  • 80-90's oilers the best team

    they knew it....

there will never be any team like this

the great one, the moose, the coffee, the jari,

we will never gonna have this again

  • Dude, that team did not have Coffee on it!

  • all other teams in history suck compared to the Oilers. they dominated the 80's and early 90's and if it weren't for money the Oilers would have kept Gretzky all the way. too bad cuz they probably would have won every cup from 1987 to 1994 LOL. to all the flyer, bruin and islander fans in here: FUCK YOU. your teams all sucked back when. they beat opponents, the Oilers destroyed their opponents. thats what counts of course because they will ask: whos number 99, 7, 17, 9 and 11? the greatest!

  • Here here PaulCoffey7!! Well Said! Oilers Rule! Oilers in 2009!!!!

  • Wow that's an mazing statment considering my Flyguys with a ton of injuries took the oilers to a 7 game in 87. A little humble is in order

  • @PaulCoffey7 As much as I cheered for the Bruins in that year's Final, the better team did win when it mattered the most and Bill Ranford standing on his head and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy didn't hurt either.

  • Oilers will eventually get the 6th cup

    08/09 cup champs!!!

  • Brings back old memories

  • ohh the goood old oilers :)

  • the edmonton oilers. the greatest offensive jugernautt the league has ever had. only team to score 400 or more goals in season and they did that five years in a row.

  • Is that why an American team has won every cup since '93? It isn't because they are trash. Get over yourself Canada. My Penguins certainly aren't trash. Detroit isn't trash. I have nothing against Canada, and I can appreciate hockey wherever it is played. Why can't you do the same? I was actually pulling for Edmonton in '06 to win. Just because a team is American in basis doesn't make them trash.

  • Because the NHL became americanized and all the teams were moved to America, even tho theres a larger fan base in Canada.

  • In supposed "good hockey markets" in the US there is a lack of interest and passion for the game. This year the Wings had a spectacular team, although they didn't play a thrilling, croud-pleasing style, that couldn't sell tickets. Even in the finals there were several hundred empty seats throughout the Joe. The anti-American bashing isn't alway right but when it comes to hockey the reality is that they, American supposed fan, don't deserve their franchises. They lack passion.

  • those were the good days a candian team won the stanley cup for 7 straight seasons and were in the finals 9 straight seasons heres hoping habs will make a canadian team go to the finals for the fourth straight year

  • Typo there and its my first on youtube since I been a member. 1983 was the last time the ugly Islanders won a Cup, not 1984. And to all the American-based fans commenting here: you're fucking trash you know squat about hockey and your teams suck! Your whole hockey knowledge is a typo!

  • Wow, Paul, you might want to tone it down a little. I'm one of those f*ing Americans who don't know trash, but my team was Edmonton's farm team in the early 80s. Yeah, I saw Huddy, Messier, Krushelnyski.. so I know a little bit about Canadian hockey!!! I even think Coffey played a stint down here or two, but you won't find it in the stats. I've been present for all FIVE Edmonton Oiler Cups, so, I'm a loyal fan!

I hate to tell you, but I'm NOT a typo.

    Good day, 'eh?

  • CCampLI: you're such a pussy ass bitch! The Islanders last won a Cup in 84, and when did the Oilers last win? 1990 you fuckhead. You must be so proud of your stupid Islanders dynasty eh. One that won with a "lucky goal" in 1980 (Duane Sutter when the play was offside), 1981 (against 3 horrible teams in the first 3 rounds) or even 1982 when the Isles beat the shameful Canucks. Their only win of merit was 1983 against my Oilers and you know it bitch.

  • Man was this a long time ago.

  • Oilers, are simply the best!!!

  • Those were the glory years, man. The Oilers were the only thing I liked about living in Alberta but man, they were worth it. Oilers and the Northern Lights... I'm getting misty eyed...

  • At 1:17, what a fucking save by Bill Ranford on the Jets' Dale Hawerchuk. Man, Ranford's 1990 playoff performance was amazing. Showed everyone the Oilers had depth at every position, including goaltending.

  • Clt2002: Boston wasn't a better team back in 1990. The Oilers won the Stanley Cup that year, not the Bruins. If the Bruins were so good why didn't they win the Cup? They had home ice advantage in the final and blew it, lost the first two games at home, split the two in Edmonton and lost the final in Boston. There's no way Boston can be considered a better team under those facts.

  • Edmonton was a good team till 1988 how ever in 1990 they were just "Bunch of old men used to winning" Boston was a way better better Team back then. "Tiki" and "Moose" won that one last cuo for Edmonton Oilers. Sad thing for "Ray" who had to wait for 11 long years more to have a Stanley Cup ring in his fingers. God's luck he finally got it in Colorado in 2001.

  • tiki and moose eh? what about stanley cup mvp/canada cup mvp Billy Randford who the bruins traded to the oilers for moog? and the kid line of graves gelinas and joe murphy!..get your facts straight buddy that was one of the best team efforts ever...to lose the supposed greatest player of all time and win the cup..simply amazing..no other sports team has ever accomplished such a feat..i love my oilers!!!!

  • Boston lost the cup in 5 games. How exactly were they a better team back then? They lost to the Oilers twice in the finals...I'm pretty sure that speaks for itself as to who the better team was.

  • @Clt2002 The oilers were still a good team in 1990. Two years doesn't make much of a difference as far as age and skill is concerned. Being used to winning doesn't mean you can keep on winning if you are not good.

  • @Clt2002 Obviously you didnt pay any fucking attention. Old Men? Yeah cause Gelinas Murphy and Graves were really old men. Stupid shit.

  • i have read these finals..edmonton was pop in 1984-1990

  • I was visiting Toronto and 14 years old during these Finals.
