  • I wan to be a meiko then a geish abut I'm english xxx

  • whats the object of this game? she looks so cute!

  • cool!!!

  • So this is what it looks like. I'm not sure if "Memoirs of a Geisha" the movie showed it because I can't remember, but I kinda wondered what they were talking about when I read the book. Thanks for the post!

  • @darkcharm23 ~ Sadly, the movie doesn't do the book justice (I much prefer the book) and even that has some errors! So no, it doesn't. I've watched the movie a dozen times. lol

  • This maiko is Harue-san I think, she retired a while ago...

  • Actually she quit quite recently. She performed in 2008's Kyo Odori. Such a shame, I thought she was so cute.

  • come fai a saperlo?

  • Looks like fun and can get rather funny/silly if one messes up. XD

Thank you for sharing the video.

  • notice 1-2-3...1-2-3,

  • This game is konpirafunefune! There is a cute little song that is sung at the same time. This seems to be the game that geisha like to teach first time customers.

  • who lost?

  • or is it just an activity, which if it is just an activity why is it called a drinking game.

  • what if...... ha ha ha why make such a weird comment????

  • because by understanding the point of the game we understand the role of the geisha. by doing that we can gauge whether or not historically europeans adn americans have understood the truth about this subculture. if we have not then it is an example of xenofantasy, a type of racism and that is something that is worth fighting against in the great struggle for peace! LOL

  • How on earth did you manage to mention racism and fighting for peace in that?

It is a god damn traditional game........ and western men have nothing better to do with their time with the geishas, so they teach them the game. Seen that so many westerners expect more from them.

  • geishas are always seen as prostitutes by westerners. i don't think thats true in most circumstances. by understanding what geishas do I can gauge whether or not what westerners think is true. I'd like to be right that they aren't prostitutes and if ppl did think that and it isnt true it just shows you what ppl want to think about a culture vs. what ppl should think.

  • @jerzkid87

You are right, they are not prostitutes. They might sleep with someone, of their choice, if they decide to have a relationship with him, but they are not paid for such a thing, ever, so no, they are not prostitutes. They are paid for their company; song and dance, conversation, instrument-playing. Never for sex.

  • @AyilanaEien Not only that, but I just read that if they engage in sex, it would only be after a ceremony that's a bit like a marriage that they're supposed to only enter into if they have a long-established geisha-danna relationship. Ending this next level in their relationship requires another ceremony that functions like a divorce.

  • @chaowalker ~ Yes, Iwasaki Mineko mentions some of that in her book. Geiko/Geisha/Maiko/Hangyoku use what they call "san-san-kudo" to be bound together as sisters, mother and daughter, and with people they may enter into certain relationships with. I actually used san-san-kudo at my own wedding. lol It consists of three cups of sake. The husband (or older sister/person, etc.) takes the first cup, takes three sips, then passes it along and the wife does the same, with each cup. "3-3-9 times."

  • @jerzkid87 Theyre not prostitutes. During WW2 Prostitutes called themselves geisha girls.

  • @jerzkid87 why dont u look up the history before running your mouth there einstein? high class or low class, a prostitute is still a prostitute

  • @smukase im certainly not "running my mouth". and the 'einstein' crack... really? anyway what makes you an expert on arcane social traditions?

  • @jerzkid87 I know this is four years old but don't worry they're are certainly not prostitutes, that is a massive misconception. They are performers and people of arts. :-)

  • its interesting that use opposite hands to grab it. she uses her left he uses his right. that creates a weird dynamic. so the point of the game, im guessing, is for the people to take turns touching the object (whatever that is) and then slap their hand hile the other person touches the object. all th while the tempo increases. You can grab the object resulting in the opponent hitting a blank table and then.... what? do u get a point i dont get how this ends...

  • I think it goes like this; you have to make a fist when you put your hand down if the little object has been taken away, but if your hand is flat, as it would have been when you touch it, then you lose, and I think you have to take a penalty drink. Its an old fashioned drinking game :) It looks as if he's very good at this game!

  • old tradition game

  • pretty cool little game!

  • thats a funy little game
