This car is meant to be used as a CAR that can handle the occasional snow storm. In Canada all X1s are AWD and have 230hp.

Rented the twin turbo diesel model. Drove from Munich all the way to Düsseldorf. Very good car indeed, 180+ kpr and consumption was great, super smooth and stable for 4+ hours.
The entire point of an SUV like the X1 is to be a (as good as possible) compromise between handling, luxury, rough road capabilities, image price, etcetera. Of course those single focus personas this guy invents will prefer something more focused on just one or two of those aspects.

I drove X1 and was disappointed by the engine (vibrations) and harsh ride. Interior should also be better (although this is true of all BMWs compared to Audi). However, I was impressed with handling of the car. One note on slipping and sliding: that is due ONLY due to the tires (performance tires in winter?). xDrive is one of the best awd systems around and BMW's safety electronics are surely top notch! With same tires I would prefer X1 to Freelander on snowy roads!

This is almost ridiculous. Notice when he talks about rear legroom the passenger seat is at its rearmost setting. Now I am just over 6ft tall and if I assume a normal driving position, there is plenty of legroom in the rear - my knees are several inches away from the front seat. In this review and in some others, it is as if telling the truth just gets in the way of a good story. I think that some of the plastics are slightly dubious too - but that said if you spec if correctly, it looks great.
This guy is a total knobhead, for the best motoring reviews on You Tube check out the stuff by Matt Watson of Carbuyer. He's done lots of reviews and although the format is the same for every car tested it works well, plus he's just likeable. There's also the postings by Honest John, again well balanced and plain talking.

the fit and finish may not be as good as in a fully loaded 7 series but you get what you pay for, dont you.

Over all for being a BMW its not all that impressive however I would have to disagree with the reviewer above, I think in terms of styling and design the X1 was well executed, it has a very sheek and upscale design, and god knows its better looking then BMW X3's horrid square clunky design. Not even the new design of the X3 does it for me. Over all had this X1 used the X3 platform with the X3's space but with the X1 design, it would have been an amazing car. Most recent car "testers" and presenters are all about the fashion and social aspects of cars, the "image" of the vehicle, what people perceive about you as an owner etc. All sad, boring and irritating aspects of car ownership, of no interest to people that really understand cars and their engineering, their performance and so on.

this bmw kicks ass on anything in the small crossover sav/suv class.
the fit and finish may not be as good as in a fully loaded 7 series but you get what you pay for, dont you.
i especially like it when he complains about the rear seat space when he is in "school mom" character (lol) ....its absolutely fine for children , unless of course youve got a six foot tall 12 year old.
overall great performance and finish for the price.

Sorry this guys a twat . I was at bmw world in Munich last week were the X1 was on show and its a nice car . The car feels really nice and is made to bmws very high standerds .Its not the best but its sure is not the worse car ! As for the guy in this video that was a crap car review !!

This x1 doesnt exactly fit any demographic. Dont get me wrong, I love BMW's. A simple base 128i will floor me just good enough. crossover segment is all about practicality

at least here in Germany it is available with both all wheel drive and petrol engines. It nearly has the space of a 3 series touring but is cheaper and (for me) it's the better looking car. ..

well...BMW missed the target again...they are not doing well after last SUV product, the ridiculous doggy-cat called X6. The allroad Audis are somehow more reasonable, smarter and even nicer ones. What is the point of this car full of incorrect compromises when purpose of the class is to fulfil in every way w/o any fault? The only X5 remains good vaule per money and luckily 4 BMW the fans of their SUVs has more money than sense. The guy is right with prefering Tiguan, it is much more practical.

Wow quit whining...some of you guys are really freaking stupid and cant come up with a simple conclusion....why are you all spitting on the car reviewer? If you saw this car in person (and none of you douches did) you would realize that all he said is true. This car has less room inside than the Bmw 1 series, it drives worse than bmw 3, its less comfortable, less quiet, not as well made, has smaller boot, cant go offroad any better than a normal xdrive 3 series would..and its too expensive.

Get your facts right!! BMW X1 also comes with 2.0ltr 4 & 3.0 ltr 6 cylinder petrol engines. And yes, totally agree with comments below, you are quite off.. BMW X1 is an excellent choice for those who don`t like massive SUV`s, but still want a decent crossover! Well done BMW!! ;)

Over all for being a BMW its not all that impressive however I would have to disagree with the reviewer above, I think in terms of styling and design the X1 was well executed, it has a very sheek and upscale design, and god knows its better looking then BMW X3's horrid square clunky design. Not even the new design of the X3 does it for me. Over all had this X1 used the X3 platform with the X3's space but with the X1 design, it would have been an amazing car. I dont mind it but its not to die for

@wideopen704 Whats wrong with interior? Hmm...maybe the fact that 80% of plastic you see is cheap and hard to touch, worse than in 1 series. As he said, its noisy, uncomfortable, has no room inside, isnt very pretty... this car makes no sense because its fails as a SUV and it fails as a cross-over. If you want a sporty car, you will buy a 3 series which costs less and offers better quality, comfort, more room inside and is better to drive. If you want SUV, buy X3 or X5. X1 is a wannabe SUV.

@doomalz3eem: I do not know about the GX engine to cmpare, but the 3litre BMW straight-six is a gem. Great engine, revs and pulls from 1.000rpm, all up to the readine withouth hesitation. Suits the car perfectly....and has a great sound!
Dunno about cost...I live in Greece and cars here are quite expensive.

Most recent car "testers" and presenters are all about the fashion and social aspects of cars, the "image" of the vehicle, what people perceive about you as an owner etc. All sad, boring and irritating aspects of car ownership, of no interest to people that really understand cars and their engineering, their performance and so on.
Earlier presenters and the programmes were streets ahead.
