  • western diamondbacks do have live young.

  • k, so these be rattle snakes right, do western diamond backs lay eggs or have them live ?

  • seriously now, aww two ot them died? that's too bad. tell me please does the snake mother stay near them in the wild ( obviously in a cage she does ) and does she ever protect them in other words does she have maternal instincts or is she like

ok kids I am outta here and then they fend for themselves, I just wonder that. JJ

  • if a rattlesnake lays its eggs in your hair..you'll go insane LOL!! just kiddn haters I was kidding no nasty comments please that used to be said about bats...even

barney fife said it. those lil rattlers are kinda cute! JJ

  • they are so pretty but i'm scareed of them. It's her lil sis.

  • looks like a dusky not a carolina

  • How do you know when shes going to have them cause my pregnant female is super fat,i just want to know.thanks

  • i cant believe ppl dont kno dt all snakes does not lay eggs....

  • It is not as if people are born with a knowledge of snakes' reproductive habits. Since many people do not like, or are not interested in, snakes it makes sense that they would not bother to find out about them.

  • never would have got to see that if not for you.... thanks

  • i thaught all snakes lay eggs

  • Im looking for a pair of pygmys. Do you know anybody that has some for sale on the west coast?

  • Those things are born pissed off.

  • I thought all snakes lay eggs!! But NVM -.-

  • not that you would know or not,but my northern brown snake gave birth to 39 young, and only 2 still births.

how should i feed these babies. ive been putting their container up on the light outside,so all the gnats coming towards the light would fall in,and hopefully give them a chance to learn to hunt.

    any thoughts?

  • Sorry about the two dead, but the rest... So amazingly cute! I think I even saw one of them yawning...

  • please see my video response to you, I wanted to know if I did in fact encounter a pigmy rattle. thanks

  • Very nice vid! It's a shame that only half survived, but I was wondering if the mother ate the two dead ones after she discovered them. I've observed it in Crotalus horridus when the neonates fail to thrive, and heard some other viprids do as well. Thanks.

  • I have had sand boas do that, but we did not leave them in the cage long enough for her to consume them.

  • Amazing video. I rescued a neonate Western Diamondback last week, out of someone's yard. It hadn't even had it's first shed yet, so I looked for siblings and mom, but couldn't find them. The baby was released back into the desert within a quartermile of where I captured it.

I am the education coordinator for the AZ Herp Assoc. I was so saddened to hear about Popcorn, and we send our condolences. I worry every event about someone doing the same thing with our animals. It is so disheartening.

  • Hi!! great documentary!

My surprise when i noticed my western diamondback rattlesnake gives birth to 3 young snakes. where can i find more info about her little babies? I would like to rise them all, theres no much info about little rattlesnakes & their diet and care!!

    thx

  • Very cool! May I suggest keeping your adult rattlers in vision cages? Screen tops on aquariums might catch their fangs

  • Can see how you'd get the cage type impression.

I owned the snake before municipality laws changed. Tried Vision and Neodesha cages, but this pygmy was insane. Rushed any door opening. Was unlike any species I've ever dealt with. Weekly feeding was a nightmare. Cage used is split top glass and metal grate, not the aquarium and screen, which is completely unsuitable for keeping a hot. Glass top opening allowed much safer feeding, and grate screen was well above extended strike range.

  • Great video. Shame about the dead ones :-(

  • i thought that reptiles laid eggs, not gave birth.

  • it all depends on the species. Some have live birth and some lay eggs.

  • oh i see. thanks for clearing that up for me.

  • Fantastic! Enjoyed seeing this vid! Thank You!

  • Thank you I am glad you enjoyed it. I just try to share the experiences that take place within my business House of Reptiles, LLC with others.

  • whats that big white thing on the baby?

  • the white thing you saw was the embryonic sac that is just like an egg that cycles inside the female instead of her laying actual eggs.

  • @LonerGalore i came on it, and it was very grateful towards my rather generous sexual expense.

  • @AzatlanX4 I was waiting for someone to make a comment like this; I'm just disappointed that it took three years. Your comment is way out of date, and doesn't even pertain to the question anymore.

  • @LonerGalore I'm disappointed that you waited 3 years for me to comment, although i appreciate your rather desperate display of anonymous affection ;D

  • @AzatlanX4 It was a long, depressing three years of waiting but it finally paid off. ;D But you missed me and got the snake. :(

  • @LonerGalore your responsehas led to my mental harmony =D Now i am at peace my good man!!

  • @AzatlanX4 I'm afraid you're mistaken, champ. I'm a woman. ;)

  • @LonerGalore I am also a lesbian ;D
