I don't think it's fair to compare. The people who make these remakes must have a better appreciation of the music they're remaking than those who listen. If they're remaking something, part of it is to fit their own musical style, the other part is to point the listeners to a better appreciation of the classics.

I have to dissapoint you, its not george wassouff, his versions of Oum kalsoum songs are also great. But this version is from shayma el shayab. She made, i think in 2003, a complete album using Oum kalsoums songs. This version is availabe at arabic markets.
