Yeah, me too. I really don't like these ones. Quatchi and his gang are waaaaay better! (Their cartoon story is better too) Long live Quatchi!! Canada Rocks!!!
Yup! (I mean yes, I am in Canada, not yes, its a stupid question ;)) I am such a sucker for the 2010 Mascots. They are just too damn cute to pass up. I have a really big litter of Quatchi's and Mukmuk's (and I mean a really BIG litter!!!) LOLOLOL
@Danzhomevideos I meant I have a lot of them (like a litter of puppies, ie: more than one); 7 Quatchies, 5 Mukmuks, 3 Migas, 3 Sumis (I think...LOL). Still luvs them all, even tho the Olympics have long since ended! Wish I bought the gigantic Quatchi.....i had no room for him, he woulda taken up my entire area of my bed.......darn. and he's waaaay to furry for the summer!
@oneangrybanana I am right there with you. I so regret not getting the giant Quatchi when I had the chance. One day I'm sure I'll get the chance again and snap him up lol.
@fiercefunky Yeah, me too. I actually went with my mum to the Bay to get one, they were on sale at the end of the Olympics but only at 25% off, and she had a heart attack at how big they were! LMAO! I told her they were big, but she didn't expect them to be THAT big!
@oneangrybanana yeah i have one miga one quatchi one sumi one mukmuk my sisters have mini mukmuks and migas and sumis and quatchi and i wish that i had gottan the big ones(along with my normal sized ones)
and i have tons of olympic stuff and its so awesomebut yeah they are awesome but yet there are all of these negetive comments but they are awesome
i think that the macots give the olympics a less serious look. and so what if they look young? if we had mean or serious looking mascots, they would give the country a intemidating edge, the olympics are supposed to be about bringing the countries together.
Yeap, he looks like antilope, but I don't think there are antilopes like that in Asia(?)
As HuanHuan represents dragon (aside representing fire) I thought there is possibility YingYing also representing Chinese mythology in the form of Qilin.
As a resident of vancouver, I think it's great to be able to put a "face" to the games with the mascots. It gives the host country a chance to impart their culture and make the games their own...
everything has a mascot because they give us more spirit during the games and i think logos and names are important in the real world because i bet even the clothes u wear has a name or logo or some sort i would like to see u try and find something that doesnt had a logo or name or brand

Having mascots for the winter or summer Olympics degrades the games. It becomes a cheap commercialized joke. A way to squeeze as much profit out of the event as possible, not to mention cheapening the entire purpose of the games.
AND REALLY!!! If your going to have mascots.. at least make them something a person could be proud of. They make it look like a cheesy kids show, and the actual mascot outfits are even worse.
My opinion yes, but so many others share my views.
I think far more people would disagree with you. What's wrong with an aspect of the Olympics appealing to a younger generation too? Are mascots a marketing and commercial tool? Absolutely. But that's what logos and emblems are all about. Why does McDonalds have Ronald and the golden arches? Why does Fila or Kappa have a logo? If you're not into the mascots, don't buy their merchandise. But it doesn't degrade the games just to have them. They don't cheapen the spirit of the Olympics.
Using McDonald's as one of your examples somewhat strengthens my point... However, that could have been a poorly chosen example on your part. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt there.
If the purpose of the Olympic mascot is to attract a younger audience, then it should be directed at a slightly older age. Say 15 - 25, where individuals can grasp more meaning and importance of what the Olympics really mean to us. It feels like they are directed at preschool kids... Sigh....
I think 15-25 the sport is enough. Calgary '88 what I remember most was Heidi & Howdy the polar bears. I wanted dolls of them so badly. It started my life long love of the Olympics. So from personal experience, I see their value.
It is something of a shame that profits must be made and commercialization of the games must occur but when we are no longer living in a world where groups or individuals would seek to use violence to promote their agendas then we no longer need to pay for security.
@fiercefunky yeah i aggree for the younger veiwers it's amazing and the 2010 i wanted the mascots stuffed toys so badly and now i love them and it brings back memories and its just awesome and also they keep all the costumes in storage and then someday they will be brought back out and like i said it will bring back memories inspire people
and then when the mascots come to an event and surprise the kids there i have been at one but i knew the mascots were coming they were so happy to see them
tell me... What is there that is remotely Canadian about the mascots for the 2010 games. The Chinese ones are more fitting, and less lame, (I still don't like them for the olympics) They actually fit the culture do they not?
WTF does Quachi have to do with Canada? BigFoot? Sasquach? Mythical creatures? And the 2010 winter Olympics themselves are becoming another joke... Lulz if there isn't any snow.
If you read the book "The Story of the Vancouver 2010 Mascots" and flip to "Mascot Profiles", you will understand their connection to Vancouver and the Pacific Coast of Canada. These mascots are, in fact, very fitting for Vancouver.
I do apologize if I've offended you so greatly as to resort to such a comment...
My views on this issue have somewhat softened since my making them nearly a year ago... Yet I still disagree with the abuse of commercialization around an event that should be more about the celebration of human achievement.
OMG I'm sooo excited for the Olympics! I managed to get tickets to ALL figure skating and a good deal of the snow boarding, speed skating and women's hockey and some of the Victory ceremonies. It's going to be an amazing couple of weeks!!!
2008 and 2010 has the best mascots. They have meaning and represent the olympics nicely.
