Half my family is from Germany, and Native Americans were (at least when I was a kid) a big hit with Germans, due to the stories of the old west by Karl May. Germans just thought Indians were the coolest ever. They even built a huge theme park called Phantasialand, where they staged plays and acted out stories and conflicts from his books. The Indians were equal big stars of the show, and not the bad guys. The Germans were fascinated by Native Americans and their struggles and stories.
It would be interesting to see what Caucasian stereotypes Native Americans have of Whites. I bet a lot of them are just that, stereotypes, and way off the mark for the bulk of whites. All stereotypes needs to end. It shows a lack of intellegence to view all people the same. It is just as wrong to stereotype a white man as it is to do so against an African American. As a Native American Cherokee, I have seen alot of it against my people and get sick and tired of people brushing it off as no big deal. Thank God for your video. I am an elementary teacher and it is my goal to expose the Indian stereotyping and teach the differences and similarities between tribes. I also want to teach the commonalities between humans, whether Asain, Irish, Indian, Polish etc....we all share fundamental dreams and problems.

I think the traditions are of top importance, not just being proud of heritage. For example:
I'm Italian American. The only known tradition of my ancestors is the passing of recipies from generation to generation. My mom only learned a couple things, but my grandma knows everything. I have to get it all before she passes away or the tradition will be gone forever.
Natives had the best way of doing things. Most tradition is all lost because of the decimation. Pride in heritage is not enough
Well said Nikkafan, I lived on a res for all my childhood and eventually moved to the UK totake up a career there. Now i teach part-time the ways of our ancestors and how to adapt them to modern life. It has suprised me how much people in the UK have lost there heritage and look to a 'new age way' as they call it even tho' that way is the way of our ancestors. Prejudice against natives in the UK is almost non-existant in fact we are looked on more as people to be listened too. Catch up USA

Half my family is from Germany, and Native Americans were (at least when I was a kid) a big hit with Germans, due to the stories of the old west by Karl May. Germans just thought Indians were the coolest ever. They even built a huge theme park called Phantasialand, where they staged plays and acted out stories and conflicts from his books. The Indians were equal big stars of the show, and not the bad guys. The Germans were fascinated by Native Americans and their struggles and stories.

my mother grew up in one of the largest cities of north america. there are many things she didn't tell us, like the fact that she graduated valedictorian for the whole city's catholic school board at a time when most girls were taught to sew and cook. she also won 1rst place 3 out of 4 years in the all-city music competition, earning her a full scholarship which she didn't use bcuz the family was poor.

when i worked as an extra on a film which takes place in a prison with a large % of mohawk inmates, the crew dyed my blond (my father) hair black and i was grouped with the mohawks bcuz i look mohawk, with dark brown eyes.

I respect you two's tribal cultures: be it Lakotan, Aztecan//Mexican Indian or other American Indian. The range of several tribal groups extended hundreds of miles across, some were nomadic or drifted from one pasture to the next. i honestly don't remember, but if you have garageband, just check out its loops and i'm sure you'll recognize a lot. i didn't compose any of it, if that's what your asking--i just arranged garageband loops to fit the images.
i remember that one of them is called "officer," and the final one is called "gleaming." and i'm pretty sure some other ones are called "_____ strings," "___ exotic," and "____ brass" (i don't remember). hope that helped!

I may be taking a job as a Police Officer on a reservation in the very near future. I'm as white as the next guy, and like anyone else, I've heard all the sterotypes. Do I have a chance though? By treating people with respect, and doing everything in my power to understand their heritage. I understand it may take quite a bit of time to get known, but what should I expect? Anyone with real experience or actual insight please respond.

I think the traditions are of top importance, not just being proud of heritage. For example:
I'm Italian American. The only known tradition of my ancestors is the passing of recipies from generation to generation. My mom only learned a couple things, but my grandma knows everything. I have to get it all before she passes away or the tradition will be gone forever.
Natives had the best way of doing things. Most tradition is all lost because of the decimation. Pride in heritage is not enough

Well said Nikkafan, I lived on a res for all my childhood and eventually moved to the UK totake up a career there. Now i teach part-time the ways of our ancestors and how to adapt them to modern life. It has suprised me how much people in the UK have lost there heritage and look to a 'new age way' as they call it even tho' that way is the way of our ancestors. Prejudice against natives in the UK is almost non-existant in fact we are looked on more as people to be listened too. Catch up USA

simon, there's more sympathic feelings towards NA's/NDN's in Europe, but the NA/NDN population is small although Latin American "mestizos" live in Spain & elsewhere. But there were a few cases of Native Americans harassed & threatened by skinheads, due to strong xenophobia & dislike of non-Caucasians. My father is originally from France & lived in the US for 40 yrs. now, and my mother is of Cherokee/Osage/Shawnee descent through my grandfather originally from Oklahoma, but I'm from Sou. Cal.+
