What a damn shame, I havn't been to see the track for some 15 years and didn't realise that they had put a bloody park on top of it.
some of my best childhood memories are of being taken there in the late 60's and early 70's, by my father who was mates with Gerry Marshall, Mike Crabtree Etc, Etc.
I suppose that's "PROGRESS", although i'd call it sacrilege.
thank you guys for a lovely weekend we had at the Crystal Palace :) We really enjoyed motorsport at the palace, and I would recommend to everyone! It was amazing! See you next year! ;)
You are welcome to see some photos we made at the weekend
With all that stratford development, surely we can all bring a sledgehammer and knock down the running track and re open the whole circuit. London F1 what a money bank this would be. 10 mins from the City by rail link, loads of bus routes this will do more for South London as a revenue bringer then any other meeting. I drove the circuit back in the seventies in the days of the straw bales. Down hill was a great thrill.
I doubt spectators could sit on the grass verge - like they did in the 60's. As a young lad (9 or 10), I would take the bus to Crystal Palace, climb over the fence at Thicket Road and sit on the railway sleepers on the race track - with my legs hanging over the circuit - as the likes of Graham Hill went roaring by. I was around 9 or 10 years old at the time - and I remember the race marshalls having a fag as they watched the race. I promise to pay this time..
