The parts about Jesus were written by a bunch of cronies several hundred years after the fact; and the rest written by more crusty old men. Then all the crusty old men got together and decided what would stay and what would go and pitched the rest. It's a patch job of biblical proportions. Pun intended. And there is more then one version of each story, btw. In one version recently found god even has a wife.
