  • Hmmm, just noticed someone gave me a dislike for this video? Interesting! Must have been from Olympic????

  • those plugs are no longer sold by olympic, we had issue after issue with those things and eventually just direct wired each section togther. When the sections of the kiln shift from your weight against them when loading items into your kiln it causes the plugs to short or F up

  • @bthees1 hmmm, maybe I should take the time to direct wire them then before I wreck the controller with a spike. Do you work up in Flowery Branch? That's where I got this demo.

  • thanks for the info. I have an Olimpic kiln that missfired and tripped the breaker the last time it was fired. I thought it might be an element but this may be the problem. I will check as soon as I get it out of storage

  • Yeap, that old freezer was costing 30 - 50 dollars a month cause it was always freezing ovr and just didn't get enough air,

Well worth just shutting it off and saving up for a newer smaller one. I am going to use it for a damp box though, when we get it down stairs. I will have lots more room than my current old frig does.

  • Wow, $50 a month. I WOULD make a great wet box, though.

  • oops talked to much and clicked wrong button! Meant to tell you it's great to see you and talk with you again on tube, been checking on you since wedding video, thought you'd gone off somwheres, but it looks like you just been saving up the good stuff for us right!

    Best DebraRay

  • Hi DebraRay! Actually we did go off to my 'roots' in Pa for most of a month and then it took a lot to get me back out to the shop. Now that I'm on a roll, I will get another load ready pretty soon. I wish I had bought a larger kiln now. Mine is 18 by 27 high.

  • Wished we lived closer to one another,

I'd share mine with you but it the old fashioned kind got to tur4n the dials and babysit it! haha We could learn lots more from each other. I don't have many people around here to talk to mostly teach and experiment1

  • Yep, 'Experiment' is my middle name.... unfortunately. I have to get back and make some more LARGER mugs and apple bakers. Just had some apples tonight but the bakers are too small for the larger variety of apples. I saw some with a horizontal lip so I might try some bigger ones with a lip.

  • Wow real great and honest about the mishap. Very glad it wasn't worse than that. do you have more humidity there does that make a difference? I've seen kilns from Kanas and from peoples basements, that really look nasty after just a few years, the electrical boxs especially?

Thank you very much, I don't have this model but my kiln does plug together like that. will check it from time to time now.

  • I can be very humid here during the summer but there's no sign of rust or corrosion on anything, I keep the heat on low during the winter and the AC on slightly during the summer. I have an unattached workshop.

If yours connects that way, then find a 'volunteer' or two to lift that layers apart and check those plugs just to be safe. And make sure the breaker for the kiln is the right size. Don't want to lose you... :o)

  • Thanks so much!

It's been less than a year since I was given my larger kiln, it was brand new and we did beef up the breakers then.

My lrg kiln is a 1027 and have only fired it

4 or five times because I thought it was costing to much to fire but found out the electric company goofed and it was really our 40 yr old freezer. I wished sometimes I had a seperate shop cause it's in our basement, gets preety hot down there.

  • Hmmm, I guess it doesn't hurt to check those old freezers and refrigerators. I'm going to have to do that. Yea, I am glad I have mine out in the shop because when glaze firing, some pretty nasty fumes come off. If I had it in the basement, I would definitely put an exhaust hood over it. Nice talking to you again, Debra

  • Well, golly, I'm blushing.......NOT. You are one crazy dude AND that's OK!!!!!!!

  • I'm glad that mishap didn't fry your kiln. Good information. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to your kiln opening :)

  • I'm glad too that it only cost me about $70. I was lucky I think. At least, I know I have my breaker sized OK.

  • Hey, i checked out your site. Very nice. I see you like that Light Stormy Blue too. And I see it also breaks very thin for you too sometimes. Uploading my kiln opening now.

  • ha ha ha. :o) That's how I wake up in the morning - with a defibrillator.

  • Thanks for the tip.

  • I hope it saves someone from disaster.
