I think the association with Peru is only that word about this place in Guatavita, Colombia and its ritual inspired the El Dorado story, and drove the explorers nuts trying to find the source of all the gold. They went all over the place. Even as late as 1920's Colonel Percy Fawcett searched in Brazil for El Dorado and was lost. His adventure inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World".
Where do you get the information that this ritual was in the Amazon in Peru. That I am aware of this ritual of covering themselves in gold was done in the Guatavita lake in Central Colombia. Therefore this golden float that you depict here, which is 100% from Colombia not Peru.
