7) ... BUT, River Song is growing on me. And I think that's 99% due to Alex Kingston being awesome. So hey, I might end up getting on board with the whole thing.
About the Doctor dying... I was surprised. I am deeply intrigued to see how they'll sort this out. And if they don't sort it out, I'll have to think a lot about what I really think about it, so far I'm holding my thoughts until i see the next episode. (cont)
8) ...I agree that the shot of Amy crying over his body was pretty strong and I like they are opening the season like that. I like that Steven Moffat is not holding back on anything, and that makes me believe this season has the potential to be even better that Season 5, which I loved.
9) Finally... Amy's revelation!! You didn't talk about it but I want to say that I was shocked. And I'm also scared. I haven't been reading any spoilers but just after watching this episode I have the horrible feeling that Amy is gonna die and if that happens I may have to hurt someone.
Anyway... great review, Chris! Hope you do it for the next episodes too!
@maxsummers Awesome comments. And as for Amy's pregnancy, no I didn't talk about it! The only thing I thought of was, "Oh, they have a way to write Karen Gillian out of the show now." how it will play out we will see...
1) I really liked the episode, I think it was a great start for the season. I was also surprised how dark it was, I was prepared for something more like "New Earth" and then they brought something like "Dalek" + "Turn Left" + "Silence in the Library" feel to it... I enjoyed it. (cont)
2) With that said, I was left with a bit of "uhm, last season's opener was way better though...", and I'm not sure if it really was, I'd have to re-watch both episodes but I remember feeling excited after Season 5 premiere, vs feeling intrigued now. So I don't know where that leaves me in a "which season premiere was better" thing. (cont)
3) About the aliens, I thought they were pretty scary, possibly the scariest alien I've seen in DW so far. I think comparing to the Daleks, for me the Daleks are scary because I've been told they are scary. I've been told they are the Time Lords' nemesis, and because I saw the 9th Doctor being genuinely scared of them in "Dalek". But if I ignore that, I don't find them really scary. Now the aliens on this one... I was actually scared of them.
4) About Rory: I like him. I think what you said is very true, he balances well with Amy. If you look back to Rose and Mickey... Mickey was completely annoying! And maybe it was their way to justify Rose falling for The Doctor and they don't seem to want to do that with Amy, which is good, BUT... I don't think they had to make Mickey so damn insufferable, so I like to think they learned a lesson and they are getting it right now. (cont)
5) ...He's not supposed to be "the main companion", and he's there to balance it out and I think he's been perfect on that. I don't LOVE Rory, I wouldn't say "oh I watch the show just for Rory!" but I enjoy him and I'd be sad if they kill him off or something like that.
6) River Song: I'm not a fan. To be honest part of it is me not liking that she seems to be "the love of the Doctor's life" and you know I'm a Rose/Doctor fan and ever since she first showed up I wasn't a fan of them telling us "hey, you should care about this person, she IS important" when they haven't showed us WHY she is important. And I understand that this is the reason why her story is interesting, and I do think it is, but at the same time is hard to make me care for her.
