Absolutely amateurish reporting. Cost of running the vehicle is not its mileage. The devil is in the maintenance cost, not the consumption. CO2 emissions...please!! If green is the standard, get the plastic off the streets, correctly inspect soot-black PSVs and definitely restore water catchment areas!!!!!
If its consumption, why not purchase Toyota Prius or Honda Civic which are electric/ gasoline hybrids, and currently doing good for both the pocket and the environment? Then, what cost benefit do we get from replacing the whole fleet? How much do we spend, compared to how much we raise from sale of the old cars and how long will it take to re-coop the difference in terms of saving fuel?? I read nothing but another fraud in the offing. Somebody is getting briefcases of cash!!!!
Yet another outrage courtesy of the Kenyan Government. Yesterday we were treated to the revealation that The VP's residence cost of construction has been revised upward to ksh 380 million, today it has been brought to our attention that the government intends to buy 100s of new Passats ostensibly to save on fuel cost. Tomorrow we will hear that the ministers bought the Mercedes cars at throw away price, all while IDP's are yet to be fully resettled. This is simply revolting!
you prophesised "Tomorrow we will hear that the ministers bought the Mercedes cars at throw away price, all while IDP's are yet to be fully resettled. This is simply revolting!" it has happened
Hmm, I did wonder what logic was used to reach into the passat decision. Yes, overall, buying a passat is cheaper than the Merc, but, why would one buy a cheap car just to watch the savings washed away by the cost of running it? Either Uhuru doesn't think, or he doesn't tell us what he's thinking! I smell a rat.
Corruption: The Passat Dealers walitoa Kitu Kidogo to Uhuru etc... We now know that the Excuse that Passat is More economical and Environment-friendly was Sham. Will, Kenya Ever Change??????????????????????????
These are just thugs masquerading as a government. what is the difference btn 1798cc for a passat and the 1800cc? Why buy new cars before the current ones are surrendered? Why not replace them as they wear out? Why cant they drive in their own cars? Uhuru, raila, saitoti, michuki, kibaki,.. all of the ministers are already millionnaires who are shamelessly living off the rest of us while pretending to be serving us!
They should simply get rid of the excessive allowances they give these fuckers and let them use their inflated salaries to buy whatever cars they deem fit.
This is such a petty issue brought about by greed of politicians and frankly sheer ignorance of wanainchi in general.
Before you know it these guys will be cruising in Porsche Cayenne Turbo S or VW Touareg V8s. This Uhuru thing, as I have always maintained, stinks like a dead fish. I wish someone could stop him but with Ringeria back at the gate keeping unti-corruption crusaders away from government corridors it is tough luck for Kenyans
Stop cheating folks that ministers roll in C-Class Benz's ... Those clowns roll in E-Class Benz's or S-Class Benz's which are way more expensive and guzzlers compared to the VW Passat ...
Why didn't they buy TDI?

On what basis was the choice of Passat based, do we just have a bunch of illeterate/stupid guys running the Government or what is wrong?

the president should have a horse drawn carriage or bull drawn

This president deserves a jail house not a single car with uhuru. A thief who masterminded murder and an election thuggery.
