I want to and got to try ice swimming sometime even though my body really doesn't like cold temperatures.

the salt in the water reduces the freezing point so it doesnt freeze instantly...thats why sea water can be in the north pole and not freeze

If it is salt water then no, salt water freezes at lower temperatures.
