Thanks informative video. My question I see Stephen Meisel and Peter Lindberg using continuous lights a lot in fashion. Whats your opinion on flash vs continuous?
@blucinemafilms To do a good job with continuous you either have to be very lucky or need to really know what you're doing. Generally continuous does not supply enough light so you have to use a long exposure time. With long exposure times you need a tripod because hand-holding will shake your camera causing blur. If your subject moves you will get blur. Otherwise you can use brighter lights - that usually means more heat - thusly they are called hot lights too. Newer fluorescents are cooler.
Everywhere I go every demo I see, it's always a skinny broad being used as a "model". Sheeze, I guess plump women or regular guys don't deserve to have professional pictures taken!
Cpo2u, I'm afraid regular guys and oversized women are just not terribly photogenic.... skinny broads are! Nothing personal just a fact of what's considered pleasing to the eye.
I'm sure you're right, though I didn't notice it the 2 times I was in Morocco but the issue of lighting more rotund models is not adequately addressed. Obesity in America has reached 30% so that is a market waiting to be discovered. An arabic and slavic language video on lighting, perhaps?
Maybe you were in the part of Morocco that did NOT value large, round women. All I'm saying is that the rest of the world isn't so fixated on skinny broads... regular folks need to be used in lighting and photography tutorials as well, for that touch of realism.
What kind of lighting would one need for obese Americans though? Probably one with mounting rodes made from donuts :)
@oceandrew though good photographers can make *anything* 'pleasing to the eye' if they're skilled enough...skinny models look nice to an extent, and people are becoming more accepting of different size models (so long as the right photographers with the appreciation of something *different* keep doing their thing)
@vStreetStruckv I totally agree. The context of my remark was in answer to the complaint that "skinny broads" are used as models more often than the overweight.... editorializing aside.
Yea lets all photograph over weight or plump women and see our client list change to zero!

Whose eye? I bet some men in Morocco - and in the rest of the World outside of the US and Western Europe - would beg to differ :)

@cpo2u I agree completely. I'm really tired of unhealthy skinny women being the "norm"
